Los Angeles, July 15 - Sony Pictures has acquired the distribution rights of Jennifer Lawrence-starrer comedy film No Hard Feelings, according to Variety. The price tag, however, has not been revealed by the makers.
The movie will be directed by Gene Stupnitsky, a writer and co-executive producer on NBC's "The Office". Sony Pictures has billed the movie as an 'R-rated comedy with a heart' and sets June 16, 2023, release date in theaters.
It will be the first R-Rated comedy movie in Hollywood for a long time as comedy movies are often made to attract family audiences. "No Hard Feelings" is set in Montauk, New York, a hamlet on the east end of Long Island. Apart from headlining the movie, Lawrence will also be producing it with Alex Saks, Marc Provissiero, Naomi Odenkirk, and Justine Ciarrocchi.
Meanwhile, Sony Pictures, which has been one of the few major Hollywood studios to stand by the theaters during the covid-19 pandemic, has acquired the distribution rights of the movie with the intention to give it a theatrical release. As per Variety, it faced competition from Universal Pictures along with other streamers and major studios to grab the rights.
