Though the milestone is now not out of reach, only a handful of films have achieved that, and only 4 directors have managed to achieve this back-to-back. The film, directed by Sujeeth, had its paid premieres today (September 24), ahead of its grand theatrical release tomorrow, and the response has been nothing short of phenomenal. According to early trade reports, OG grossed over 23+ crores (official soon) from paid premieres in India alone, surpassing the record previously held by Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu (15 crores). This marks the biggest-ever paid premiere collections at the Indian box office. There have been rumours about the OTT release of the superhero blockbuster, which is running riot at the box office. Dulquer, who has produced Lokah under his banner Wayfarer Films, took to social media to dismiss the ongoing rumours, making it clear that the film isn't arriving on any OTT platform anytime soon. Apart from being the biggest Mollywood blockbuster, Lokah registered a feat no Malayalam film has ever managed before. The film has emerged as the first from the industry to cross 100 crores in the home state of Kerala, 100 crores in overseas markets, and 50 crores in the rest of India, emerging as a true Pan-India blockbuster. This rare triple achievement underscores the film's widespread acceptance among audiences both at home and abroad. The Kerala market, traditionally the backbone of Malayalam cinema, has been the strongest pillar for Lokah. The film collected approximately 12.75 crore net on its opening day, thanks to the positive word of mouth, which helped the movie to gain momentum post-noon shows. The steady pick-up in evening and night shows on Friday hinted at positive word-of-mouth, which is now clearly reflected in Saturday's trend. On its second day, the film is witnessing a significant surge in collections. As per early estimates, Jolly LLB 3 has shown a jump of over 50%, raking in the range of 19-21 crore net on Saturday. The award, conferred by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, will be presented during the 71st National Film Awards ceremony in New Delhi on September 23, 2025. Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the country's highest recognition in the field of cinema. Mohanlal is the second Malayali to receive this honour after film director, script writer, and producer Adoor Gopalakrishnan, who is regarded as one of the most notable and renowned filmmakers in India. The movie will compete in the Best International Feature category at the 98th Academy Awards, slated to take place on March 26, 2026. Starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in the leading roles, the movie follows two childhood friends from a small village in North India who dream of becoming police officers, hoping the job will bring them the respect they never had. However, as they come closer to their goal, pressure and struggles create problems in their friendship. Chennai, September 12 - The Tamil cinema is bracing up for a major box office showdown on Pongal 2026 after Sivakarthikeyan's much-awaited period political drama film Parashakti confirms indirect clash with Thalapathy Vijay's swan song Jana Nayagan. Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parashakti is reportedly based on true events, revolving around the Anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu that happened in 1965. On Friday (September 12), the makers announced that this much-awaited movie will be hitting worldwide cinemas on January 14, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival. With this feat, Dulquer Salmaan's production has placed itself among the rare Malayalam films to touch such numbers internationally. The film's overseas performance is particularly significant as it has joined the elite club of Malayalam movies led by Mohanlal's Empuraan and Thudarum in the $10 million club. Before 2025, not a single Malayalam film reached $10 million overseas box office milestone, and now, the industry has three titles in the coveted club. In 11 days, it has grossed 91 crores ($10.3+ million). Superstar Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan is currently the highest-grossing Mollywood film with 124.50 crores ($13.75+ million), followed by his Thudarum with 94 crores ($10.50+ million). Mumbai, September 8 - Warner Bros. Pictures' horror franchise that has been sending chills down spines for over a decade is back with a bang. The Conjuring: Last Rites, directed by Michael Chaves, opened to massive record-breaking numbers at the global box office, reaffirming the brand's strength among horror fans worldwide. In India, the film grossed over 61 crores ($6.9 million) during its 3-day opening weekend. This makes it by far the biggest debut for a non-Indian horror film and the second-biggest opening weekend ever for a horror film in the country. Multiplex chains in metros saw excellent occupancies, while Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities also contributed significantly to the film's strong numbers. The impressive performance indicates that the horror genre continues to have a loyal following in India, especially when backed by a trusted franchise like The Conjuring. Over the last couple of years, horror films have found success in India, and Last Rites has taken it to another level. Worldwide, The Conjuring: Last Rites delivered a staggering $194 million in its opening frame, which is a record for a horror film, beating 2017's It ($190 million). This includes a phenomenal record $84 million in North America and a record-breaking $110 million from international markets. These numbers not only underline the global appeal of the franchise but also position the film as one of the strongest openers of the year across all genres, not just horror. Kochi, September 2 - The Malayalam cinema has its own Marvellous beginning of the superhero franchise, Lokah. The first part of the series, Lokah Chapter 1 - Chandra, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, was released recently amid glowing reviews, which led the movie to do wonders at the box office. Directed by Dominic Arun, Chandra has set the box office on fire, and scored the third biggest opening weekend ever for Malayalam cinema with 66 crores gross collection worldwide. This is by far the biggest Mollywood opening for a female-led title, and also for the superhero genre, which, anyway, is largely unexplored. Chandra featured post-credit scenes, featuring Dulquer Salmaan, who is also the producer of the film, and Tovino Thomas, as both will lead the next chapters of the franchise. As the anticipation is now all-time high for what will be going to unfold in the Lokah universe, the details regarding its future have been revealed. During the recent interview, cinematographer Nimish Ravi reportedly revealed that Lokah will be a five-part epic saga, where each film will be bigger than the last one. He also revealed that the director has already locked the stories for all five movies, which means the next film in the franchise will start rolling soon. Going by Ravi's words, Lokah will have a Marvel-esque conclusion where the heroes of the Lokah universe are likely to fight the main villain of it. If people are wondering who could be the main villain, he revealed that right from the opening scene of Chandra, there is a hidden clue about the ultimate villain of the series.
