Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi And Ranveer Singh's 83 May Opt For OTT Release

Two of the most awaited and anticipated movies, Sooryavanshi and 83 that are still holding back for a theatrical release, may now be opted for the OTT route. Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibasish Sarkar has said that in the scenario that theatres fail to open up by a certain time or audience doesn't come, then they can go for the OTT route as they don't want to push the release date furthermore.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Shibasish Sarkar said, "We are 100% inclined to take theatrical route. However, at the same time, we don't want to delay the release further than practically possible. That means we will not like to push release dates beyond Diwali / Christmas. So the first option is to go theatrical if cinemas open up and audiences are back".



He hinted at the possibility of the films being given a rental release, like the Disney film Mulan, which would mean that subscribers of a certain streaming platform would have to pay an amount above and beyond their regular monthly subscription to watch the films. So the makers are looking for SVOD (video on demand) or TVOD/PPV (pay per view) routes.

Sooryavanshi is an action film and it is the fourth installment of the director of the film Rohit Shetty's Police Universe. Akshay Kumar playing DCP Veer Sooryavanshi, the chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad. It is co-produced by Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty Picturez, Dharma Productions, and Cape of Good Films.



The movie also stars Katrina Kaif opposite Akshay while Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Jackie Shroff, Nikitin Dheer, Javed Jaffrey also played important roles. Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh of Singham and Simmba make the cameo appearance.

Talking about 83, it is a sports drama film based on Team India's 1983 cricket world cup win. Ranveer Singh plays Kapil Dev who was captain of the team that won the title. It is directed by Kabir Khan and jointly produced by Kabir Khan, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Deepika Padukone, and Sajid Nadiadwala.
