WWE Friday Night SmackDown, January 19, 2024 Play-By-Play Results
Jimmy and Solo are in the building when Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman come through the metal detector.
Roman asks Paul if it was 'fixed.' Roman says he is here to make it all right again.
Solo says he will fix it. He says he will fix everything.
Nick Aldis is in the ring with a table, four more microphones, and a contract.
Nick welcomes everyone to Smackdown and the official contract signing for the Title Match at the Royal Rumble.
Nick brings out AJ Styles first.
AJ signs the contract.
LA Knight is the second to come to the ring for the signing.
Knight signs the contract while Nick gestures to AJ to stay back.
Nick brings out the final challenger, Randy Orton.
Randy signs the contract.
The final man needed to sign the contract to make the match official is introduced by Nick Aldis.
Roman's music plays but Roman Reigns is not the man who makes his way onto the stage.
Paul Heyman comes out and he introduces himself. Paul tells Nick that he and Roman just arrived at the arena and have not had a chance to submit this contract to an attorney or for Paul to look at the contract. Paul says Roman will not sign that contract tonight.
Nick asks Paul to confirm that Roman is not signing the contract. He says that is absolutely fine. Paul says he has three signatures, and he will make it a Triple Threat Match for the vacant Universal Championship.
Paul turns around and makes his way to the ring. Paul gets on the apron and he tells Nick that he cares deeply about him. He says he halfway respects and admires the mediocre job he has done in charge of Smackdown. Paul says Nick looks really good in your Paul Heyman wannabe suits. No matter how you look, there is no way you can sell this to the Board of Directors or the fine upstanding people of Atlanta, or Roman, who runs things. Roman should be defending the title in a one-on-one match at the Royal Rumble.
Knight tells Paul to shut up. He says this should be a one-on-one match because he had Roman beat at Crown Jewel and his cousins helped him keep the title. Knight says this should be a rematch but these two Johnny Come Latelies show up after a few months off.
AJ says the Bloodline tried to end his career, and you walked over his body to get the match, and you lost. You are lucky to be in this match.
Knight says if anyone has a horseshoe up his keister, it has to be AJ. Knight should watch the bass in his voice when he talks to Knight and worry about Roman.
AJ says Knight understands they are not fighting Roman; they are fighting each other.
Knight says he comes in and pins Roman to become champion. He does not care if he has to walk over your body. It won't be the Bloodline leaving you laying; it will be him.
AJ punches Knight, and they fight to the floor and up the aisle.
Aldis tries to stop them, and officials come out to break things up.
AJ gets free and goes after Knight. They fight to the back.
Randy and Paul watch from the ring, and Randy grabs Paul by his tie.
Randy tells Paul that he sees what Paul is trying to do and it isn't going to work because tonight he will drop Solo, and he will beat him in the middle of this ring. After he does this, he will reintroduce Roman to the three most dangerous letters in sports entertainment RKO.
Logan Paul walks in the back.
We are back, and AJ Styles stops Nick Aldis. He says he wants LA Knight tonight, and he gives AJ the match.
Carlito, Joaquin Wilde, and Cruz del Toro (with Zelina Vega) vs Santos Escobar, Angel Garza, and Humberto Carrillo
Carlito initiates the action, and Angel sneakily hits him from behind. Carlito responds with a chop to Angel. Cruz enters, delivering kicks to Angel, but Angel stomps on Cruz's foot and lands punches. Cruz fights back with punches and a kick, managing to avoid Angel in the corner and execute a springboard head scissors. Wilde tags in, and they execute a double back elbow. Cruz follows up with a slingshot hip toss onto Angel for a near fall. Wilde sidesteps Humberto, hits a wrist lock takedown, and a dropkick. Santos heads to the floor, and Wilde and Cruz execute flip dives onto Angel and Humberto.
After the commercial break, Santos tags in, and Humberto pulls off a slingshot blockbuster from a Gory Special position. Santos follows with a drop kick for a near fall. Humberto chops Angel, and Santos tags in. They press Wilde over their heads and drop him onto Santos' knee for a near fall. Santos delivers a back heel kick and a belly-to-back suplex for a near fall. Humberto and Angel tag in, kicking Wilde in the corner. Angel lands a drop kick as Wilde crawls to his corner. Humberto tags in, applying a reverse chin lock. Wilde counters with a jawbreaker and a satellite DDT. Angel pulls Carlito and Cruz off the apron to prevent a tag. Wilde lands on his feet from a belly-to-back suplex attempt. Carlito tags in, delivering punches to everyone. Carlito knees Humberto, follows up with a clothesline, and executes a drop kick to Angel. Humberto knocks Angel to the floor, and Carlito hits a spinebuster for a near fall.
Humberto delivers a springboard round kick for a near fall, but Cruz breaks it up. Santos kicks Cruz, Wilde lands a super kick on Santos, and Angel hits a super kick on Wilde. Carlito kicks Humberto and executes a lungblower, but Santos makes a blind tag and secures the three-count with a rollup.

In the backstage interview with Pretty Deadly, Kayla Braxton asks them about their upcoming match against Tyler and Butch and whether they feel more confident facing them tonight. Elton straightforwardly states that there won't be any surprises tonight. Kit mentions that they've been studying tapes of Tyler and Butch, considering them pretty smart guys. Elton adds that they've never been more prepared.
Moving on to a scene with Bobby Lashley, Montez, and Angelo, Lashley questions if Final Testament has a plan. Montez responds by asserting that they're the ones consistently putting their opponents down. Angelo chimes in, cautioning not to be fooled by the suits, as they are the genuine monsters. Bobby Lashley challenges Final Testament to name the time and place, emphasizing that when they find them, they'll demonstrate what real intimidation looks like.
Elton Prince and Kit Wilson vs Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate
Kit and Tyler kick things off, and Kit initiates with a wrist lock. Tyler counters with a reversal and a swift kick to the head. Tyler transitions into a headlock, and Dunne tags in, delivering a powerful clothesline. Pete proceeds with a hammer lock, followed by brutal boots to the arm. He ruthlessly pulls at Kit's fingers, applying an arm bar submission that forces Kit to reach for the ropes.
Pete continues his assault with a boot to the leg. Tyler reenters the match, climbing to the top turnbuckle and executing a double jump senton off Pete's back. Tyler follows up with an airplane spin, and Kit takes down Elton when he ventures too close. The relentless rotations force Kit to roll to the floor as we head into a commercial break.
Upon returning, Kit tags in, and Elton prevents Tyler from crossing the ring. Elton whips Tyler and sets him up for an elbow in the corner. Tyler, however, manages to land on his feet during a belly-to-back suplex attempt. He catches Kit in the corner, delivering an explosive move. Pete and Elton tag in, and Pete unleashes an enzuigiri, followed by a German suplex on Kit. Pete focuses on punishing Kit's hands, stomping on them and delivering a harsh kick to the head. Pete deftly evades a suplex attempt by Elton, retaliating with a kick to Elton and executing an X Plex on Kit onto Elton. Pete adds insult to injury with chest-stomping and a well-timed suicide dive to Kit.
Pete runs into a boot from Elton, but Tyler swiftly tags in. Tyler lands an uppercut on Elton, blocking a kick and countering with a jab. Tyler punches Kit, causing him to bounce off the ropes. Pete tags in, and Tyler delivers a rebound clothesline to Kit. The duo proceeds to kick Elton in the corner, setting up Pete for a spectacular Bitter End, securing the three-count victory.

We revisit the latest developments involving Kevin Owens and Logan Paul.
Kevin Owens makes his entrance to the ring.
We cut to a commercial break.
In the backstage area, Elton and Kit express their discontent about the match. Kayla suddenly appears, ambushing them with questions about what went wrong.
Elton complains that they were prepared for Butch, not Tyler's new partner tonight.
Kevin Owens takes the mic in the ring and expresses his gratitude for the support. He introduces his guest, Logan Paul.
Logan thanks Kevin but makes it clear that he's not honored to be on what he calls a "bottom of the barrel show." Logan asserts that it's his show because he is the show, claiming Kevin owes him a proper thank you for being the reason he joined WWE.
Kevin asks for clarification, and Logan plays a clip from Wrestlemania 2021 when Kevin stunned him in front of 70,000 people. Logan explains that moment made him realize he needed to prove himself in WWE.
Kevin downplays the incident, stating he barely remembers it and that Logan is just one of many celebrities he has stunned over his 25-year career. Kevin acknowledges Logan's work but insists he's not on the same level as WWE stalwarts like Rey Mysterio, Seth Rollins, or Sami Zayn.
Logan, asserting his uniqueness, calls himself the maverick, contrasting himself with Kevin.
Kevin dismisses Logan's claims, criticizing the protection and opportunities afforded to him due to his notoriety. Kevin declares the end of the joke at the Royal Rumble.
Logan counters, accusing Kevin of hypocrisy, citing his protected arm. He threatens to knock Kevin out in one second.
Kevin defends himself, stating he can endure punishment and get back up. He vows to remove his cast before the Royal Rumble and challenges Logan to do something about it.

WWE Women's Tag Team Championship: Katana Chance and Kayden Carter vs. Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn
Alba and Isla launch an attack on Kayden and Katana. Alba executes a suplex, followed by a kick from Isla, resulting in a near fall. Alba then sends Kayden into the turnbuckles. Isla tags in, and Alba delivers a superkick, followed by Isla executing a Saito suplex for another near fall. Isla adds a forearm to her offensive arsenal.
Carter manages to escape a slam, and Katana tags in, knocking Alba off the apron. Chance enters the fray, delivering a face plant and a head scissors. She follows up with a clothesline in the corner, and Carter tags back in. Alba blocks a potential double superplex. Carter superkicks Fyre, and Chance assists in executing a rana off the turnbuckles onto Dawn, resulting in a near fall.

Kross claims they are disruptors who won't play by the established rules. Kross challenges them to a face-to-face confrontation in the ring, emphasizing the desire to reveal who the true "All Mighty" is.
A recap of last week's match between Carmelo Hayes and Austin Theory is shown.
Cathy Kelley interviews Carmelo Hayes about the previous week's match and the subsequent fallout. Hayes mentions that incidents like what occurred in their match happen in the heat of battle. Although he didn't win, he didn't lose either. Hayes declares that he is HIM.
Austin Theory and Grayson Waller interrupt the interview, with Theory accusing Hayes of attempting to end his career. Hayes suggests a rematch next week in Miami, to which Theory claims he's busy. Waller, however, contradicts Theory, stating that he would love to face Hayes. Theory is frustrated with Waller's interference.
The broadcast returns, and a preview for next week's episode is provided. It includes a match between Carlito and Santos Escobar, a face-to-face meeting between the Final Testament and the Street Business, and a title defense by Kayden Carter and Katana Chance against Asuka and Kairi Sane.
Singles Match: AJ Styles vs LA Knight

AJ resorts to kicks, sending Knight into the turnbuckles and delivering a backbreaker. AJ continues with punches and chokes Knight in the ropes, adding a chop to his offensive repertoire. Knight, however, responds with a kick and punches, showcasing a power slam for another near fall.
Knight sends AJ into the turnbuckles, delivering numerous kicks. As Knight goes for a knee in the corner, AJ maneuvers to the floor. AJ seizes the opportunity, executing a sliding knee on the apron. He then Irish whips Knight into the ringside barrier, and Knight retaliates by hot-shotting AJ onto the barrier. Subsequently, Knight repeatedly sends AJ into the announce table.
Jimmy Uso makes his entrance, causing a distraction for Knight. This distraction allows AJ to connect with an enzuigiri. Solo intervenes with a Samoan Spike on Knight, prompting the referee to call for the bell.
WINNER: No Contest
Following the match, Solo forcefully directs AJ into the ring steps and then back into the ring. Solo then executes another Samoan Spike on AJ.
Solo grabs the microphone and declares, "Two down... one to go." He directly addresses Randy Orton, urging him to come to the ring immediately.

Upon returning, Nick Aldis is situated at ringside, holding the contract for the Universal Title Match at The Royal Rumble.
Singles Match: Solo Sikoa vs Randy Orton
Randy initiates the encounter with punches, but Solo counters with an uppercut, causing Orton to stagger into the corner. Solo follows up with a barrage of punches and a running hip into the corner. Orton tumbles to the floor, and Solo pursues him. Attempting to send Orton into the announce table, Solo faces resistance from the seasoned veteran. However, Solo manages to block a backdrop driver and successfully hurls Randy into the announce table before finishing the job with the ring steps.

Upon the return, Orton retaliates with a backdrop driver onto the announce table. Solo responds with an elbow, sending Orton into the apron. Solo misses a shoulder attack, allowing Orton to capitalize with a kick. Orton sets up for the IEDDT (Inverted Exploder DDT) and executes it successfully. He then surveys the surroundings, twisting to the mat for the trademark RKO push-ups.
Jimmy Uso makes his way to the ring, but his progress is halted by LA Knight. Jimmy decides to head back backstage but encounters AJ, who prevents him from interfering further. Meanwhile, Orton remains focused on the stage where LA Knight is dealing with Jimmy Uso, seizing the opportunity to hit an RKO on Solo for the three-count victory.
WINNER: Randy Orton
Following the match, Knight, Styles, and Orton stand together in the ring. However, the unity is short-lived as Knight unexpectedly punches AJ, and in retaliation, Orton swiftly delivers an RKO to Knight. AJ also finds himself on the receiving end of an RKO from Randy.
Roman Reigns enters the scene from behind, landing a Superman punch on Orton. Roman smirks at Nick Aldis and gestures for him to present the contract. Roman takes the contract, acknowledging it by putting pen to paper, and then casually drops it at Nick's feet.
Preparing for a spear, Roman makes a move towards Orton, but before he can strike, Orton counters with a sudden RKO, leaving Roman down in the ring.
