Box Office: 'Kanguva' First Sunday/4th Day Early Estimates

Chennai, November 17 - Kollywood star Suriya's Kanguva has an underwhelming extended opening weekend at the box office, considering the hype and craze it had among the fans before release. The movie scored a good opening but it has been a downfall since then. ## The movie scored a minor jump on Sunday, however, a big jump which was needed after the underwhelming first 3 days, was missing. According to the early estimates, the fantasy action thriller scored an estimated 12-13 crores gross collection in all versions on its 4th day. ## In Tamil Nadu, the movie scored more or less in the similar range as yesterday for an estimated 5.50 crores gross while showing a minor jump in most of the other areas. The total first 4-day weekend collection is around 64 crores gross in India, which is underwhelming. ## The negative word of mouth has affected Kanguva big time during the first weekend and now, a rebound looks difficult from hereon. Actress Jyotika Points Out Targeted Negativity Against Suriya's Kanguva

Chennai, November 17 — Actress Jyothika has called out the targeted negativity towards her husband, actor Suriya. The award-winning actress took to Instagram and shared her thoughts on Suriya's latest movie Kanguva and how it has been made to suffer with hate campaigns by media and certain fraternities. ## While admitting that Kanguva is not a perfect film with some issues, especially in the first half-hour, the actress said it is also not a bad movie that deserves such a high level of negativity. The movie was released on November 14 and was bashed left, right, and centre on social media which has already affected the box office of the film. ## Speaking about the same, Jyotika said in a long note on Instagram, "I'm surprised with the negative reviews from media and certain fraternities, as it's not done by them to this high level for the most unintellectual big budget films I have seen earlier with age-old stories, where women r stalked, double meaning dialogues r spoken and have the most over the top action sequences".## The actor-producer further said that the media intentionally ignored the positive side while reviewing the film and that has made her wonder largely whether one should ever read, listen or believe reviewers after all. ## "It's sad that they chose this much negativity for Kanguva on day 1, even before the first show was over (seemed more like multiple group propagandas) when it actually deserves applause for the concept and effort taken by the team to create 3D and such a magnificent visual", she added.## Directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green, Kanguva opened to record numbers for actor Suriya but dropped heavily in the next 2 days. Box Office: 'Kanguva' First Saturday Early Estimates

Chennai, November 16 - Tamil star Suriya's big-budget fantasy action thriller Kanguva failed to score a big jump on its first Saturday which was a must after the underwhelming second day. As expected, the negative word of mouth has started cutting the audience. ## According to the early estimates, on the first Saturday/third day the all-India gross of the movie is almost in the similar range as yesterday with around 11 crores gross. The movie has seen a decent but not enough jump in the home state Tamil Nadu with an estimated around 5 crore gross collection today. ## Kanguva needed a big jump today to cover the lost ground but that didn't happen which shows the movie is facing rejection from the audience. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the movie has seen a drop almost everywhere which is concerning. It is unlikely the movie will see much turnaround on Sunday but a drop will seal the deal. ## The total domestic collection of the film after 3 days is around 51 crores gross which could have been a very good collection of any of Suriya's previous films but can't be said the same about Kanguva which was made on a huge budget. Nayanthara Slams Dhanush For Demanding Money For Using His Film's Footage In Her Netflix Documentary

Chennai, November 16 - In a dramatic turn of events, actress Nayanthara has slammed actor Dhanush in an open letter to him. The controversy erupted when Dhanush denied permission to use the footage of his production venture Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015) in Nayanthara's upcoming Netflix docuseries, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale. ## In a lengthy note to the actor, Nayanthara accused Dhanush of demanding a 10 crore sum for using a mere 3 seconds of a video clip from the movie in the documentary. Box Office: 'Amaran' Tops 200 Crore Gross Collection Domestically

Chennai, November 16 - Sivakarthikeyan's mega-blockbuster Amaran has unlocked one more milestone as it has become the second Tamil movie of 2024 to top 200 crores gross collection at the domestic box office after Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest of All-Time. ## The movie, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, crossed the milestone on its 16th day after grossing another 4+ crores on the day. The total domestic collection after the third Friday stands at approximately 202 crores gross (175+ crores net). ## Amaran is expected to score a 100% jump on Saturday and then have another big day on Sunday as the third weekend is probably heading for around 20 crores gross which will take the total domestic collation to around 218+ crores gross.## Overseas, the biographical action drama has so far grossed an estimated 75 crores in 16 days and the movie has a chance to top 300 crores gross worldwide by the third Sunday. Vijay Sethupathi's Box Office Blockbuster and Critically Acclaimed 'Maharaja' Sets China Release

Chennai, November 16 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja which scored a huge commercial and critical acclaim earlier this year, is set to hit Chinese theatres later this month. The movie is directed by Nithilan Saminathan and produced by The Route, Think Studios, and Passion Studios. ## Maharaja was released in June this year and five months later, director Nithilan confirmed on social media that it would be released in China on November 29 by Alibaba Group. The cast of the movie also includes Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natty Natraj in important roles. ## It is the 50th movie of Vijay Sethupathi and it emerged to be his biggest grosser with a worldwide collection of approximately 106 crores. Box Office: 'Kanguva' Second Day Early Estimates

Chennai, November 15 - Tamil star Suriya's big-budget fantasy entertainer Kanguva might be starting to feel the heat of negative word of mouth as the collection on its second day/first Friday dropped by over 50% from the record Thursday opening for the actor. ## It was going to be tough for the film to come close to the opening day numbers as word of mouth was poor and that came into effect on its second day only. According to early estimates, the movie is expected to gross in the range of 4-4.50 crores in Tamil Nadu on its second day, which is a drop of around 60%. ## The movie is witnessing a similar drop in Telugu states for an estimated 2.25-2.50 crores gross while in Kerala, the collection dropped massively for an estimated 75 lakh (-80%) and in Karnataka, the movie has minted around 75 lakh, again a heavy drop. ## Kanguva has a decent day in the Hindi belt though the drop is still there for an estimated 3+ crores gross as all India second-day estimates suggest the collection in the range of 10.50-11.50 crores gross, pushing the total to around 39 crores gross after 2 days domestically.## The film has a big Saturday and Sunday to make a mark as it looks like it will struggle big time beyond the weekend. Box Office: 'Kanguva' Opening Day Early Estimates

Chennai, November 14 - Tamil star Suriya's long-awaited fantasy action drama Kanguva hit the big screens today amid huge expectations at the box office. As expected, the film has taken the career-best opening for the actor by a good margin. ## According to the early estimates, Kanguva is headed for opening in the range of 11-13 crores gross in Tamil Nadu which is a decent start. In Telugu states, the movie has taken a good start with an estimated gross collection in the range of 5.50-6 crores. ## Kerala was one of the best-performing states for Kanguva in advance sales and the film scored a very good opening of 4-4.50 crores gross there. In Karnataka, it is expected to score in the range of 2.50+ crores gross while the movie surprises in the North belt with a better-than-expected start. ## As per estimates, Kanguva is expected to gross around 4 crores in the Hindi belt as all India estimates suggest 26-28 crore gross opening day (including 3D charges). Chennai, November 12 - Tamil star Suriya's fantasy action drama film Kanguva is finally hitting the big screens this Thursday, November 14, as the anticipation soaring with release getting nearer. Directed by Siva, the movie has managed to generate good buzz with a superb promotional campaign. ## Recently, the makers announced that Kanguva would be released on over 10K screens worldwide, making it the widest release for a Tamil title. However, it may face a significant challenge, especially in the home state, Tamil Nadu due to fellow Tamil movie Amaran starring Sivakarthikeyan. ## Amaran was released during Diwali weekend and in just 12 days, it has surpassed 250 crores collection, at the worldwide box office, including 120+ crores gross in Tamil Nadu and emerged as a huge blockbuster. The movie has exceeded expectations and is now the second-biggest Tamil grosser of 2024. ## Since the movie is performing exceptionally well, it is learned that its OTT release date is set to be extended by a week and it will now arrive digitally after 5 weeks (35 days). 'Leo 2' Plans Scrapped

Chennai, November 5 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj's Cinematic Universe featuring some of the biggest stars of Tamil cinema has been the talk of the town and the maverick filmmaker has now shared the details of the upcoming films of LCU. ## The LCU began with Karthi's Kaithi in 2019, followed by Kamal Haasan's Vikram (2022), and Thalapathy Vijay's Leo (2023), and all three films became massive hits. Suriya's 'Kanguva' Censor Details And Official Runtime Revealed

Chennai, October 29 - With just 2 weeks left for the release, Tamil star Suriya's much-anticipated Pan India movie Kanguva has reportedly completed censorship formalities and the reports are super positive. The film is directed by Siruthai Siva and also stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani in prominent roles. ## According to the reports, Kanguva has been censored with a 'U/A' certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an approved runtime of 2 hours and 34 minutes. The movie was censored on October 29 with some modifications and without any major cuts.## The runtime of the film seems to be on the right side and as per reports, the CBFC team showered high praise for this Suriya-starrer for making one of its kind film. Box Office: 'Vettaiyan' Tops 100 Crore Gross In Tamil Nadu

Chennai, October 26 - Superstar Rajinikanth's action drama Vettaiyan, also starring Amitabh Bachchan, has entered the 100 crores gross club at the Tamil Nadu box office, becoming the second movie of 2024 to achieve the feat after Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest of All-Time. ## Directed by T. J. Gnanavel, Vettaiyan entered the 100 crore club in the state on its 17th day, third Saturday. It is the second back-to-back film of Rajinikanth (excluding Lal Salaam in which Rajinikanth played an extended appearance), after mega-blockbuster Jailer last year. ## However, despite crossing 100 crores gross collection in the home state, Vettaiyna has underperformed at the box office, not meeting the pre-release expectations. It has been a struggle for the movie so far with around 250 crores gross worldwide. ## In 16 days so far, the movie has minted approximately 166 crores in India and 80 crores overseas for approximately 246 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office. Chennai, October 16 - Superstar Rajinikanth's action drama Vettaiyan has entered the 200 crores club at the worldwide box office in just 6 days, becoming the second Tamil movie of 2024 to achieve the feat after Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest of All Time.## After the good extended first weekend with 189 crores worldwide gross, Vettaiyan, however, has dropped heavily in the first 2 working days. On Monday, the collection dropped by around 75% followed by another around 25% drop on Tuesday for approximately 14 crores worldwide gross in 2 days. ## The total worldwide collection of the film after 6 days stands at approximately 203 crores gross, including 134 crores in India and 69 crores overseas. The domestic collection of 134 crores includes 81 crores in the home state, Tamil Nadu as it is marching towards 100 crores gross in the state. ## It is the 7th movie of Rajinikanth to top 200 crores worldwide gross, after 2.0, Jailer, Enthiran, Kabali, Petta, and Darbar.
