'Squid Game' Season 2 Records Biggest Streaming Debut For Netflix With 68 Million Views
Mumbai, January 1 - The second season of smash hit Korean series, Squid Game is off to a record-breaking start as expected. The survival thriller's second instalment debuted with a massive 68 million views in the first 4 days globally.
This is the biggest debut for any Netflix series in its premiere week, beating a record that Wednesday set with 50.10 million views in 2022. The show from creator/director Hwang Dong-hyuk and starring Lee Jung-jae ranked number 1 in 92 countries.
Since its release on December 26, 2024, Squid Game 2 has become Netflix's seventh most popular/viewed non-English TV show in record time. Squid Game Season 1 is currently at the top with 265.2 million views. The most viewed titles were measured across each series' first 91 days of viewership.
The anticipation for season 2 also benefitted the first season which was back among the top 10 this past week with 8.1 million views at number 3 in the non-English category. Meanwhile, the season has enough time to become the most popular show on Netflix as it is likely to beat the viewership of season 1.
