5 Years Of SS Rajamouli's Epic 'Baahubali 2 The Conclusion'
Hyderabad, April 28 - The Indian cinema was forever changed when SS Rajamouli's epic action drama film, "Baahubali 2 The Conclusion" was released five years ago on April 28. It was the first glimpse of the changing dynamics within Indian cinema, which is now turning into a full picture.
Before "Baahubali 2" set things on fire at the Indian as well as overseas box office, it was "Baahubali The Beginning" that set the stage up for its successor. Released in 2015, "Baahubali" went on to become the second highest-grossing Indian movie at that time with 650 crores worldwide gross.
It was the film that kept the audiences talking about "Baahubali 2" to know the answer to the famous mysterious question - why Katappa killed Baahubali? And once the mystery was unveiled, it became a nationwide sensation that transformed into the blockbuster box office numbers. It is currently the highest-grossing Indian movie at the domestic box office with 1416.9 crores gross and second-biggest worldwide with 1788 crores gross.
Written by K. V. Vijayendra Prasad, the film is set in medieval India and follows the sibling rivalry between Amarendra Baahubali and Bhallaladeva; the latter conspires against the former and has him killed by Kattappa. Years later, Amarendra's son returns to avenge his death.
The "Baahubali" film series was the first to introduce director Rajamouli and actor Prabhas to the Pan-Indian audiences, who now become two of the biggest names in the world of Indian cinema. The Indian film industry and its audiences have always believed that it is a hero who decides the fate of a movie. But things have changed drastically ever since with directors taking the center stage.
"Baahubali 2" inspired the South Indian filmmakers to look beyond the language barrier and that is exactly happening now. After "Baahubali", director Prashanth Neel took his Kannada movie "KGF Chapter 1" with superstar Yash to the Pan Indian audiences and has had a huge success. Just like "Baahubali 2", the expectations from "KGF Chapter 2" were over the top, and the results of that are there for everyone to see. Currently in theaters, "KGF 2" has already grossed 950+ crores worldwide in just 14 days.
Apart from "Baahubali" and "KGF" movies, director Sukumar's Telugu movie with superstar Allu Arjun was also opened for the Pan Indian audiences and became a rage. It will also have its second part and the hype around that is already sky-rocketing. Rajamouli's a month-old "RRR" with Jr. NTR and Ram Charan has broken several records at the box office. It is hailed as a cinematic masterpiece and there is no denial about that.
Basically, this all began with "Baahubali" films and their all-time great box office performances. Rajamouli is now the biggest name among the filmmakers who can bring the audience on his own. Prabhas is undoubtedly one of the most bankable actors in the country. His upcoming movies are carrying huge expectations despite his last movie, "Radhe Shyam" failing to achieve its box office target.
Produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni under the banner of Arka Media Works, "Baahubali 2" was made simultaneously in the Telugu and Tamil languages and it featured an ensemble cast including Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishna, Sathyaraj, Nassar, and Subbaraju, among others in key roles.
