9 Years of Salman Khan's Blockbuster Dabangg 2
Mumbai, Dec 21, 2021: 9 years ago on 21 December 2012, the box office had seen the release of Blockbuster Dabangg2 which smashed many records at the time of its release. The film was 5th consecutive Blockbuster for Superstar Salman khan at that time.
After the humongous success of Dabangg in 2010, the makers thought of making the sequel and converting the film into a franchise. The makers also cashed on the popularity of the character played by Salman Khan - "Chulbul Pandey" which became one of the most iconic characters ever in the history of the Indian cinema with the first film itself.
The craze for Dabangg2 was huge due to being a sequel to a Blockbuster film and chartbuster music album. As a result, Dabangg 2 opened to record-breaking first-day numbers for a non-holiday release. Later on, the film also smashed 'Ek Tha Tiger's weekend record to emerge as the new weekend record holder for the industry.
The first week's collections of Dabangg2 were 106.78 Cr and the film became the only 2nd film in history which collected more than 100 Cr in the first week and both were Salman khan starrer as Ek Tha Tiger earlier collected around 135 Cr in its first week.
The overall lifetime collections of the film crossed 150cr which was a huge number for the 2012 box office as only 3 films had collected 150 Cr+ till that time - one, of course, was 3 Idiots(202 Cr) and the other two were Salman khan films Ek Tha Tiger (199cr) and Dabangg 2 (155cr).
