Allu Arjun Leads South Indian Cinema During Pandemic Years With Two Back-To-Back HGOTY
Hyderabad, December 30 - Telugu superstar Allu Arjun's "Pushpa - The Rise", co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, is turning out to be another successful affair at the box office for him. The action-thriller, directed by Sukumar, is nearing Rs. 200 crores net at the Indian box office, set to become the first Indian film in 2021 to achieve the feat.
"Pushpa - The Rise" marks Allu Arjun's maiden Pan-India film. Apart from Telugu, the first of the two-part film also released in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. It has so far grossed approx 77 crores in languages other than Telugu. After Telugu, Hindi has been the best performing language for the film with a gross collection of Rs. 53 crores in the first 13 days.
Allu Arjun's popularity has been on the rise, especially in North India for the last few years, so the success of "Pushpa - The Rise" isn't surprising at all. The multi-genre content of "Pushpa" has also played a huge part in its success in North India, where Bollywood films, baring a couple of films, have failed to live up to the expectation of the fans.
Meanwhile, for the second year in a row, a film featuring Allu Arjun in the lead will be finishing as the highest-grossing South Indian title of the year. The Icon Star becomes only the second present South Indian actor, after Megastar Chiranjeevi, to have back-to-back highest-grosser South Indian films. Currently the second highest-grossing film in India, "Pushpa" will finish the covid-19 pandemic year ahead of Tamil blockbuster "Master", which is currently the third highest-grossing Indian film of 2021.
"Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo", which was released last year on January 12, on the occasion of Sankranthi, was the highest-grossing South India film and the second-highest-grossing Indian film after "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior" of the year. It netted over Rs. 200 crores, becoming the first film for the actor to do so, while its worldwide total finished at Rs. 269 crores.
Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, "Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo" is currently the 4th highest-grossing Telugu film of all time. In 2020, it was the fifty-third highest-grossing film of 2020 worldwide. Produced by Geetha Arts, and Haarika & Hassine Creations, "AV" also starred Pooja Hegde as the female lead alongside Tabu, Nivetha Pethuraj, Jayaram, and Sushanth in prominent roles.
