Ayan Mukerji's 'Brahmastra' Leads PVR's Earnings In Q2 of FY23
Mumbai, October 19 - PVR Ltd, the film exhibition company in India, has reported a net loss of Rs 71.49 crore in the second quarter of the financial year 2023. During the same quarter last year, the company reported a loss of Rs 153.27.
PVR said in a regulatory filing that approx. 18 million (1.8 crores) patrons visited its cinemas during the quarter as the revenue from operations in the 2nd quarter stood at Rs 686.72 crore as compared to Rs 120.32 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The company said in the statement that the underperformance of most Bollywood movies was the major reason behind the losses. Director Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra Part 1 - Shiva, however, led PVR's earnings during this period with Rs. 75.6 crores, followed by Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder with Rs. 42.10 crores.
The highest-grossing South Indian movie at PVR property during the Q2FY23 was Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur's Sita Ramam Rs. 16.7 crores, followed by Karthikeya 2 with Rs. 14.7 crores.
PVR reported that there was an 11 percent growth in the average ticket price at Rs 224, while spending on food and beverages grew by 31 percent per patron at Rs 129 compared to the pre-pandemic period of the second quarter FY20.
