Government Responds To The Removal of Diljit Dosanjh's Satluj From ZEE5; Sets Up High-Level Committee To Review The Controversial Film

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, July 7 - The Central Government has responded to the controversy surrounding the removal of Diljit Dosanjh's Satluj from ZEE5, stating that the decision was taken in view of national security concerns and issues related to the film's certification process (as per ANI). The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has also constituted a high-level Inter-Departmental Committee (IDC) to conduct a detailed review of the film's content. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) According to Information and Broadcasting Ministry sources, the IDC was set up on Monday, a day after ZEE5 took down Satluj from its platform. The committee has been tasked with examining the film, which is inspired by the disappearance of Punjab-based human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, and will assess whether any further action is required under the existing legal and regulatory framework. Explaining the takedown, ANI reported, citing government sources, that the film was released on the OTT platform without completing the mandatory certification process. Officials claimed that the project, which was earlier developed under the title Punjab 95, had faced objections during certification and was released as Satluj without resolving those issues. The Centre maintained that the removal directive was issued in accordance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Directed by Honey Trehan and starring Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role, Satluj is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and depicts events linked to Punjab during the militancy era. The film premiered on ZEE5 before being removed from the platform following the government's direction, triggering widespread debate over censorship, freedom of expression, and regulatory oversight of OTT content. With the formation of the Inter-Departmental Committee, the government has now initiated a formal review of the film. The committee's findings are expected to play a key role in determining the Centre's next course of action and could influence whether Satluj returns to streaming in the future or faces additional regulatory measures.

Ramayana Distribution Deal: Dharma Productions Secures Indian Rights for Nitesh Tiwari's Epic

BY SACNILK

The landscape of Indian cinema is preparing for what could be its most monumental theatrical event yet. Nitesh Tiwari's mythological epic, Ramayana, has remained a constant subject of fascination since its announcement. In a significant development for the film's domestic prospects, Variety India has exclusively reported that Karan Johar's Dharma Productions has officially secured the Indian distribution rights for this ambitious project. The deal comes after a rigorous selection process by producer Namit Malhotra, the CEO of DNEG and Founder of Prime Focus. To find the right partner for a project of this scale, Malhotra reportedly showcased an edited 30-minute footage of the film to several major studios. The visual spectacle and craftsmanship shown in this sneak peek reportedly left Dharma Productions impressed, leading to deep negotiations. While initial discussions for the distribution rights were said to have started at a staggering ₹500 crore, the deal was eventually finalized at ₹250 crore. This partnership ensures that the film will benefit from Dharma’s extensive reach and marketing expertise across the Indian market. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) While Dharma Productions handles the domestic front, the film's global footprint is equally impressive. Warner Bros. Pictures has been brought on board to distribute the first installment overseas, marking a rare collaboration between a major Hollywood studio and an Indian mythological epic for a Diwali release. This dual distribution strategy highlights the producer's vision to position Ramayana not just as a national event, but as a global cinematic milestone. The project boasts one of the most high-profile pan-India ensembles ever assembled. Ranbir Kapoor leads the cast as Lord Rama, with Sai Pallavi portraying Goddess Sita and Yash taking on the role of the formidable Ravana. The supporting cast is equally star-studded, featuring Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The wider cast includes industry veterans and popular stars like Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, and Arun Govil—who famously played Rama in the original television series—now appearing as King Dashrath. The scale of the production is further elevated by its musical score, which is a historic collaboration between Hollywood maestro Hans Zimmer and the legendary AR Rahman. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for his work on Dangal and Chhichhore, the film is set to be released in two parts. By focusing on a character-driven narrative supported by world-class visual effects from DNEG, the production aims to bring a fresh yet faithful perspective to the timeless epic. With the distribution partners now locked in both locally and internationally, the path is clear for Ramayana to dominate the theatrical space when it arrives this Diwali.

Alpha Day 5 Live Update: Alia Bhatt, Sharvari's Actioner Eyes Growth On Discounted Day

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, July 7 - After witnessing a noticeable drop in collections on Monday, Alpha is looking to bounce back on its fifth day at the Indian box office with the help of discounted ticket prices. The YRF Spy Universe action thriller, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, is expected to record better occupancy throughout Tuesday as several cinema chains continue to offer attractive ticket deals. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The film opened with decent numbers but couldn't match the blockbuster standards set by previous YRF Spy Universe titles. While it showed healthy growth over its first weekend despite mixed word-of-mouth, Monday witnessed the expected decline. Now, the Tuesday discount offer is likely to bring back family audiences and young moviegoers, giving the film a chance to post a day-on-day jump. The evening and night shows will play a crucial role in determining the extent of the growth. If walk-in bookings improve as expected, Alpha could register a solid increase over Monday's business, keeping its first-week total on a respectable trajectory. However, the film will still need strong holdover collections over the coming days to maintain momentum before new releases arrive. Welcome To The Jungle Day 11: Movie Nets Rs. 2.65 Cr on Second Monday Showing Decent Momentum

BY SACNILK

Welcome To The Jungle, the third installment in the popular comedy franchise, has officially completed its second Monday in theaters. While the film saw a decent second weekend, the transition into the work week has brought a significant decline in its collection momentum. On its 11th day, the movie earned a net of ₹2.65 Cr across India from 5,972 shows. This represents a 72.8% drop from the second Sunday net of ₹9.75 Cr, which is a fairly steep fall even by weekday standards for a big-budget ensemble film. With this addition, the total net collection in India has reached ₹117.55 Cr. When we look at the gross figures, the domestic total stands at ₹139.90 Cr. Internationally, early estimates indicate that the film added ₹0.50 Cr on its 11th day, bringing the total overseas gross to ₹30.45 Cr. According to data provided by Venky Box Office, the film earned $52K [approx ₹44L] in North America on Sunday, taking its total in that region to $1.09M [approx ₹9.07 Cr]. Collectively, the worldwide gross collection for Welcome To The Jungle now stands at ₹170.35 Cr. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The digital ticket tracking on BookMyShow also reflects this slowing pace. On its second Monday, the platform recorded 46.01K ticket sales, which is a sharp drop from the 139.57K tickets sold on the second Sunday. This brings the total BookMyShow sales to approximately 21.08 lakh tickets. Interestingly, when compared to other major releases in the 2025-26 period, Welcome To The Jungle missed a spot in the top 10 list for second Monday BMS sales. It currently sits at the 11th position, trailing behind films like Housefull 5 and Jolly LLB 3. Looking at the performance within major national chains, the numbers remained modest. PVR recorded about 3,500 ticket sales, resulting in a gross of approximately ₹10.6L from 846 shows with 2.3% occupancy. INOX saw nearly 3,400 tickets sold, bringing in roughly ₹7.4L across 730 shows at 2.4% occupancy. Cinepolis contributed around 1,600 tickets for a gross of about ₹3.4L from 433 shows with 1.8% occupancy. In total, these top three chains accounted for approximately 8,500 tickets and a gross of roughly ₹21.35L from about 2,000 shows, with an overall occupancy of around 2.22%. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The regional occupancy report for the Hindi 2D version shows that Mumbai was the best-performing major market with 14.5% occupancy across 430 shows, peaking at 21% during night screenings. The National Capital Region followed with 12.8% occupancy from 654 shows. Pune also showed some resilience with 13.5% occupancy. However, the film faced a tougher time in Gujarat, where Ahmedabad recorded 8.3% occupancy and Surat dropped to a low of 4.0%. Across most regions, the night shows saw the highest footfalls, while morning shows generally stayed in the single digits.

Alpha Box Office Collection Day 4: Film Nets Rs. 3.85 Cr on First Monday Amidst a Sharp Decline in Momentum

BY SACNILK

Alpha has officially hit the first Monday mark, and the performance suggests a challenging road ahead. As the first female-led spy thriller in the YRF Spy Universe, this Shiv Rawail directorial featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh takes a bold step by focusing on an emotional origin story rather than typical spy tropes. However, the film has faced a sharp crash in collections today, with numbers dropping over 70% compared to Sunday. For a big-budget action franchise of this scale, such a steep decline in momentum during the weekday transition is not ideal and indicates that the movie is struggling to find a steady grip at the box office. On its fourth day, the film collected a net of ₹3.85 Cr in India. This comes after a solid opening weekend, but the Monday test shows a 70.9% drop compared to Sunday net collection of ₹13.25 Cr. While a dip is expected after the weekend, a drop of over 70% suggests that the film is finding it challenging to maintain its initial momentum during the work week. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The film was screened across 6,997 shows on Monday with an overall occupancy of 13%. When we look at the regional breakdown for the Hindi 2D version, the National Capital Region led with 13.5% occupancy across 722 shows. Kolkata also saw a similar occupancy rate of 13.5% but on 208 shows. Mumbai followed closely at 11.8% from 562 shows. However, markets like Surat and Ahmedabad struggled, recording occupancies of 5% and 8.3% respectively. Looking at the time-of-day trends, evening and night shows generally performed better, with Mumbai hitting 17% occupancy in the late hours. Looking at the performance across major national chains, PVR led the way by selling about 5,500 tickets, which translated to a gross of approximately ₹16L from around 1,200 shows at 2.2% occupancy. INOX followed with nearly 4,900 tickets sold, bringing in roughly ₹11L across 1,000 shows with a similar occupancy of 2.2%. Cinepolis saw around 1,800 tickets sold for a gross of about ₹4L from 600 shows, recording 1.5% occupancy. Collectively, these chains contributed roughly 12,200 tickets and a total gross of about ₹31L from approximately 2,800 shows, with the overall occupancy settling at around 2% for the day. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) With these additions, the total net collection in India now stands at ₹37.85 Cr, while the gross total has reached ₹45.34 Cr after four days of release. On the digital front, BookMyShow recorded 73.52K ticket bookings on Monday, bringing the total platform sales to 682.05K tickets so far. According to early estimates for the international market, the film added ₹1.50 Cr from overseas on Day 4, taking its total overseas gross to ₹18.30 Cr. Data provided by Venky Box Office shows that the film earned $136K [approx ₹1.30 Cr] in North America on Sunday, which pushes its total in that region to $574K [approx ₹5.48 Cr]. When we combine the domestic and international figures, the worldwide gross for Alpha is now estimated at ₹63.64 Cr. As the film moves through the rest of its first week, the focus will be on whether it can stabilize its daily collections to ensure a steady long-term run.The coming days will determine how well this character-focused approach resonates with the broader audience.

Mumbai, July 6 - Filmmaker Aditya Dhar penned an emotional birthday note for Ranveer Singh as the actor turned 41, showering him with praise for his work in Dhurandhar films. Sharing his thoughts on social media, Dhar called Ranveer an "extraordinary actor" and described working with him as one of the most memorable experiences of his career. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In his heartfelt message, Dhar revealed that Dhurandhar would always remain special to him, not only because of the story they told but because he witnessed something incredibly rare while directing Ranveer. He specifically mentioned several intense sequences from the film, including the 26/11 sequence, the Pathankot massacre, and the final tea shop scene, praising the actor’s consistency and emotional depth in every take. "Every emotion landed exactly where it needed to. Every silence had meaning. Every glance had intent, "Dhar wrote, adding that Ranveer’s performance felt "touched by divine grace." The director went on to call the actor's work in Dhurandhar "one of the finest performances Indian cinema has ever seen," describing it as "a force of nature" that completely disappeared into the soul of the character. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Beyond the professional admiration, Dhar also reflected on the personal bond they developed during the making of the film. "Somewhere along the way, you stopped being just my actor. You became my brother," he wrote, thanking Ranveer for trusting him with "your heart, your craft and your madness." The Dhurandhar duology has been a monstrous blockbuster at the box office. The first Dhurandhar, released in December last year, grossed over 1300 crores worldwide, while the sequel, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, went on to gross over 1800 crores after its release in March this year. Interestingly, reports say that Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh are planning another film together next year. Top 5 Weekend Winners (July 3–5): Alpha Leads The Pack With A Decent Weekend As Welcome To The Jungle Scores A Good Second Weekend Hold

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, July 6 - The first weekend of July delivered a decent boost to the Indian box office, with new releases and strong holdover titles combining to generate impressive numbers across languages and territories. Leading the charts was Alpha, which opened at the top spot with better-than-expected weekend numbers, while Welcome to the Jungle continued its good run with a superb second-weekend hold. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 1. Alpha Leads The Pack With 40+ Cr Gross Alpha topped the weekend charts with a 40.80 crore gross opening weekend at the domestic box office. While expectations were significantly higher considering the scale and its connection to the YRF Spy Universe, the overall start can still be termed decent. The film performed best in multiplexes and urban markets, with Sunday collections showing noticeable growth. 2. Welcome To The Jungle Stood Firm In The Second Weekend Welcome 3 continued its successful theatrical run with a strong 25+ crore gross in its second weekend. The comedy entertainer showed a very good hold despite the arrival of new competition and continued to attract family audiences across mass circuits and single screens. Gatta Kusthi 2 Took An Excellent Opening Gatta Kusthi, the sequel to Vishnu Vishal's 2022 movie Gatta Kusthi, was one of the biggest winners of the weekend. The film performed very well in Tamil Nadu while the rest of the markets put up a decent performance, where positive word-of-mouth translated into strong occupancies throughout the weekend. Its trend indicates solid audience acceptance. Meanwhile, the Telugu 100 crore budgeted film had an average opening weekend domestically. Despite being mounted on a massive budget, Nagabandham managed a moderate 11+ crore gross during the weekend. While the film saw decent traction in select Telugu centres, the overall performance remained average considering the expectations. Rounding off the top 5 list was Main Vaapas Aaunga, which, despite increasing competition, emerged as one of the most impressive performers of the weekend due to its superb hold. The film continued to attract audiences steadily and maintained stable collections despite facing competition from multiple releases. Cocktail 2 3rd Weekend : Film Reaches Rs. 92.55 Cr But 100 Crore Milestone Looks Difficult At The Current Slow Pace

BY SACNILK

Cocktail 2 has wrapped up its third weekend at the box office, and the narrative has shifted from a promising start to a struggle for survival. After seventeen days in theaters, the film has reached a total India net collection of ₹92.55 Cr. While the movie began its journey with a powerhouse opening week of ₹70.50 Cr, the subsequent weeks have seen a sharp and concerning decline. Although the film is indeed battling a massive screen crunch due to newer tentpole releases, the primary issue lies with the word of mouth, which hasn't been strong enough to sustain interest. In an environment where audience appreciation typically drives longevity, the mixed reception has made it difficult for the sequel to maintain its momentum against the heavy competition. The third weekend began on a quiet note this past Friday, with the film collecting ₹0.75 Cr net. However, as is often the case with urban comedies, it saw a significant jump on Saturday, growing by 53.3% to earn ₹1.15 Cr. Sunday followed with another 8.7% rise, bringing in ₹1.25 Cr. This brings the three-day weekend total to approximately ₹3.15 Cr. When we look at the cumulative figures, the India gross now stands at ₹110.35 Cr, achieved across more than 1,01,000 shows since its release. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Cocktail 2 - 3rd Weekend India Net CollectionDAYINDIA NET COLLECTIONSHOWSDay 15 (3rd Friday)₹ 0.75 Cr1,521Day 16 (3rd Saturday)₹ 1.15 Cr1,095Day 17 (3rd Sunday)₹ 1.25 Cr1,129Total 3rd Weekend₹ 3.15 Cr3,745 In terms of audience engagement on digital platforms, BookMyShow recorded steady interest over the weekend. Friday saw 12.94K tickets sold, Saturday peaked with 19.25K, and Sunday maintained a decent hold with 17.62K tickets. In total, the film has sold over 1.6 million tickets on the platform to date. In the national chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, the film sold over 15,000 tickets during the third weekend, with Sunday being the busiest day. Specifically for Sunday, around 7,400 tickets were sold across these chains. PVR led the weekend contribution with 3,800 tickets, followed by INOX with 2,100, and Cinepolis with 1,500 tickets. The occupancy for Sunday sat at an average of 6.5%, reflecting the limited screen space currently available. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The global performance remains a highlight, with the film grossing a total of ₹140.40 Cr worldwide. This includes an overseas contribution of ₹30.05 Cr. In the North American market, Cocktail 2 continues to find takers; data from Venky Box Office shows it collected $16K on Saturday, taking its total in that region to $1.42M. While these international numbers are respectable, the domestic market remains the primary focus as the film nears the 100 Crore milestone. The journey from the second week to the third has been particularly difficult for the film. After a solid opening weekend of ₹47.50 Cr, the collections suffered a significant 75% drop in momentum. While a severe screen crunch caused by the arrival of Alpha, Welcome to the Jungle, and Main Vaapas Aaunga certainly limited its reach, the primary challenge has been the lack of strong word-of-mouth. Typically, films that resonate deeply with audiences manage to find their way even with fewer screens, but the mixed reception for this sequel has made it hard to sustain footfalls. With a landing cost of ₹150 Cr, the film is now in a tough spot as it struggles to recover its investment against the current box office trend. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The big question now is whether Cocktail 2 can cross the ₹100 Cr net mark in India. It currently needs about ₹7.45 Cr to reach that goal. Given that the entire third weekend only generated a little over ₹3 Cr, reaching the century mark will be a steep uphill battle. Unless the film manages a miraculous hold during the weekdays or regains some screens in the coming week, it might fall just short of that coveted three-figure milestone.

Welcome To The Jungle, the third installment of the beloved comedy franchise, has successfully navigated its second weekend at the box office, hitting a significant milestone in the process. After a steady first week that brought in ₹93.15 Cr, the film has now officially crossed the ₹100 Crore net mark in India. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it marks Akshay Kumar’s 21st film to enter the prestigious 100 Crore club, further solidifying his position as one of the most consistent stars in the industry. The second weekend began on a slightly quieter note on Friday with a net collection of ₹4.50 Cr, showing an 18.2% drop from the previous day. However, the film witnessed a strong resurgence as the weekend progressed. On Saturday, collections jumped by 66.7% to reach ₹7.50 Cr, and the growth continued into Sunday with a final net collection of ₹9.75 Cr, representing a 30.0% rise. By the end of its 10th day, the domestic net total stands at ₹114.90 Cr, while the India gross has reached ₹136.80 Cr across a massive 95,403 shows since its release. Over the second weekend, the platform recorded 77.19K tickets on Friday, 133.67K on Saturday, and 139.57K on Sunday. Cumulative sales on BMS have now reached 2.06 million, ranking the film at the 9th spot among the top ticket-sellers for the 2025-26 season. This puts it in a competitive position alongside other major hits like Dhurandhar2‌ and Chhaava. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In the national chains including PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, Sunday emerged as the strongest day of the second weekend. Breaking it down by chain, PVR contributed the most during this weekend period with 18,500 tickets and a gross of ₹0.68 Cr at 12% occupancy. INOX followed with 13,500 tickets and a gross of ₹0.41 Cr at 9% occupancy, while Cinepolis added another 7,000 tickets with a gross of ₹0.21 Cr and 7% occupancy. The overall occupancy across these chains reached nearly 10% on Sunday, showing that the movie continues to draw in family audiences during its second week. Regional occupancy data for Day 10 highlights a strong performance in major circuits. Ahmedabad was a standout performer with 38.8% occupancy across 380 shows, even reaching as high as 62% for evening screenings. The National Capital Region (NCR) saw 32.0% occupancy from 639 shows, while Mumbai and Pune maintained steady levels at 31.0% and 33.3%, respectively. This consistent interest across urban centers helped the film push past the 100 Crore barrier during the weekend. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) On the global front, Welcome To The Jungle has now successfully crossed the ₹150 Crore mark in worldwide gross collections. While the domestic gross has reached a final figure of ₹136.80 Cr, the international numbers for the second Sunday are currently based on early estimates. The film is estimated to have added ₹1.00 Cr from overseas markets on Day 10, bringing the total international gross to ₹29.95 Cr. This pushes the overall worldwide gross to approximately ₹166.75 Cr. In the North American circuit, data shared by Venky Box Office indicates that the film collected $73K on Saturday, taking its total in that region to a cumulative $1.04M. In addition to his domestic success, Akshay Kumar has reached a significant international milestone with this release. Following the performance of Bhooth Bangla earlier this year, Welcome To The Jungle has become his 31st film to gross over $1 million in the North American market. This achievement further narrows the gap in the list of highest $1M+ grossers by Bollywood actors in North America, where he now trails only Shah Rukh Khan, who currently holds the top spot with 32 films. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) This performance has allowed Welcome To The Jungle to secure a spot among Akshay Kumar's most successful films in the post-pandemic era. It now ranks as his 5th highest-grossing movie in this period. Here is how his top 5 post-COVID releases currently stand based on Worldwide collections: Sooryavanshi (2021): ₹ 293.00 Cr Housefull 5: ₹ 288.00 Cr OMG 2: ₹ 221.00 Cr Jolly LLB 3: ₹ 171.00 Cr Welcome To The Jungle: ₹ 166.75 Cr (Ongoing) With no major competition in the immediate future, the film will look to maintain its momentum during the second week. While the second weekend numbers are decent, the trade will be looking at how well it holds on the weekdays to see if it can challenge the lifetime collections of Jolly LLB 3 or even OMG 2 in the coming weeks.

Why Was Diljit Dosanjh's Satluj Removed From ZEE5? Controversy Grows After Sudden Withdrawal

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, July 6 - Diljit Dosanjh-fronted Satluj has been removed from ZEE5 in India just two days after its release, surprising viewers and sparking fresh debate around censorship and political pressure in the entertainment industry. The streaming platform confirmed the removal through a short statement, saying the film is currently unavailable in India until further notice due to ongoing developments. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) While ZEE5 has not revealed the exact reason behind the decision, the film had already been surrounded by controversy before its release. Satluj is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, a politically sensitive subject that has faced public and legal scrutiny over the years. The project was earlier linked to the title Punjab 95 and faced multiple delays during the certification process. According to several reports, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) demanded more than 120 cuts before approving the film, prompting criticism from supporters of artistic freedom. It is believed that the sudden removal may be connected to the release of an allegedly uncut version on OTT, which could have triggered fresh legal or regulatory concerns. However, no government authority or official source has publicly confirmed this claim so far. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Satluj may have paused. But the conversation it started hasn’t.Thank you for the incredible love.We hope to bring it back soon.#Satluj pic.twitter.com/Ox3MZIBvlT— ZEE5Official (@ZEE5India) July 5, 2026 The decision quickly sparked reactions on social media, with many users questioning the lack of transparency behind the removal. Diljit Dosanjh also reacted online, posting a message that many interpreted as criticism of attempts to silence important stories and historical narratives. Despite being removed in India, reports suggest that Satluj may still be available in international regions through ZEE5's overseas platform. The controversy has once again reignited discussions around censorship, creative freedom, and the challenges faced by films dealing with politically sensitive subjects in India.

Alpha Opening Weekend Box Office: First Female-Led Spy Film Marks the Weakest Opening in YRF Spy Universe History with Rs. 34 Cr Net

BY SACNILK

The YRF Spy Universe has grown into a massive cinematic force over the years, starting with the Tiger franchise and reaching new heights with films like Pathaan and the recent War 2. While the series has traditionally been dominated by male leads, Alpha marks a significant milestone as the first female-centric film in this action-packed universe. However, looking at the box office trajectory, the franchise has seen a bit of a downward trend since the release of War 2. Alpha has now completed its first three days with a domestic net collection of ₹34.00 Cr, while the India gross stands at ₹40.80 Cr. Although the numbers are lower than its predecessors, the film showed steady growth each day, indicating a fair level of interest in this new direction for the spy saga. The journey began on Friday with a net collection of ₹9.25 Cr. On its opening day, the film was showcased across 7,534 shows with an average occupancy of 20.0%. It was a fair start, but the real momentum was expected over the weekend. On Saturday, Alpha saw a healthy jump of 24.3%, bringing in ₹11.50 Cr net. The number of shows slightly decreased to 6,882, but the occupancy improved to 25.0%, indicating that the word of mouth was beginning to settle in. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The growth continued into Sunday, which is currently seeing early estimates for its overseas and worldwide totals. The domestic net collection for Day 3 stands final at ₹13.25 Cr, marking a 15.2% rise from Saturday. The film utilized 7,439 shows on its third day, and the occupancy peaked at 29.0%. Overseas, the film is estimated to have collected ₹5.00 Cr on Sunday, pushing the total international gross to ₹18.00 Cr. The overall worldwide gross for the opening weekend currently stands at an estimated ₹58.80 Cr. The platform saw 70.95K tickets sold during pre-sales, followed by 153.72K on Friday. Saturday proved to be the peak for online bookings with 202K tickets, while Sunday remained strong with 181.86K tickets. In total, over 608K tickets were booked via this platform alone. When we look at the national chains specifically for Sunday, the film sold a total of 63,000 tickets, resulting in a gross collection of ₹2.51 Cr with an overall occupancy of 10%. Breaking this down by chain, PVR was the top contributor with 33,000 tickets sold and a gross of ₹1.40 Cr at 13% occupancy. INOX followed with 20,500 tickets and a gross of ₹0.80 Cr at 9% occupancy, while Cinepolis accounted for 9,500 tickets and a gross of ₹0.31 Cr with an occupancy of 7%. These numbers reflect a decent level of engagement in the major circuits, providing a useful benchmark for how the film might trend in urban areas during the week. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Regional occupancy data for the third day provides a clearer picture of where the film is resonating most. The National Capital Region (NCR) saw the highest volume with 739 shows and a strong overall occupancy of 33.0%. Mumbai followed with 545 shows at 27.3% occupancy, while Ahmedabad recorded 29.3% occupancy across 468 shows. Interestingly, cities with fewer shows often saw higher engagement; for instance, Bengaluru had 289 shows with 31.3% occupancy, and Hyderabad managed a healthy 31.8% across 218 shows. Other key markets like Surat and Pune maintained steady footfalls with 27.0% and 27.3% occupancy from 268 and 241 shows, respectively. Across all these major regions, the evening shows consistently performed best, with Hyderabad even hitting 49.0% occupancy during the peak period. While the collections are decent on their own merit, a comparison with other films in the YRF Spy Universe shows that Alpha has had a relatively quiet start. It currently stands as the weakest release in the franchise in terms of opening weekend collections. However, given that it is a female-led actioner, the steady growth from Friday to Sunday is a positive sign. Here is how the YRF Spy Universe movies rank based on their India net opening weekend collections: (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) YRF Spy Universe Opening Weekend Comparison - India Net Pathaan: ₹ 280.75 Cr (Wednesday Release) War 2: ₹ 175.75 Cr (Thursday Release) War: ₹ 166.25 Cr (Wednesday Release) Tiger Zinda Hai: ₹ 114.93 Cr (Friday Release) Ek Tha Tiger: ₹ 100.57 Cr (Wednesday Release) Tiger 3: ₹ 44.50 Cr (Sunday Release) Alpha: ₹ 34.00 Cr (Friday Release) The coming weekdays will be crucial for Alpha to maintain its momentum. Since the growth has been consistent over the weekend, the trade will be watching closely to see if the film can hold steady on Monday and beyond to ensure a successful lifetime run at the box office.
