Box Office: Radhe Shyam Emerges As The Biggest Indian Opener Of 2022
Hyderabad, March 12 - Prabhas' love affair with the box office continues!
It was a box office bonanza at the Indian box office on Friday when superstar and darling of the fans, Prabhas' "Radhe Shyam" shot up to the biggest opening for an Indian film in 2022. With Rs. 50.30 crores gross on the first day, "Radhe Shyam" has also become the second biggest Indian movie during the covid-19 pandemic, behind only Allu Arjun's "Pushpa - The Rise", which grossed a mighty Rs. 52.80 crores in December 2021.
The Radha Krishna Kumar-directed, as expected, performed significantly well in the Telugu version, grossing Rs. 44.35 crores, including Rs. 37.60 crores in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The AP/TG area-wise gross for the opening day was Rs. 25.68 crores, which is the 11th biggest of all time. It also emerged as the 3rd biggest opener in Nizam with Rs. 10.80 crores gross share.
Apart from Telugu, the second biggest market for "Radhe Shyam" was Hindi, in which it performed lower than expected. The Hindi version contributed approx. Rs. 5.50 crores gross on Friday while other versions grossed approx. 45 lakhs. On the brighter side, "Radhe Shyam", scored the 5th biggest opening day in Hindi for a South Indian movie.
Overseas, the period romantic film spread love all over and minted approx. Rs. 15 crores on the first day, helping worldwide cume to reach a super Rs. 65.30 crores. "Radhe Shyam" has also become India's biggest worldwide opening in 2022, beating Pawan Kalyan's "Bheemla Nayak", which grossed Rs. 56 crores in February.
The film, set in Europe of the 1970s, tells the story of Vikramaditya (Prabhas), a palmist who is conflicted between destiny and his love for Prerana (Pooja Hegde). Produced by UV Creations and T-Series, the movie also stars Bhagyashree, Jagapathi Babu, Sachin Khedekar, Krishnam Raju, among others in key roles.
