Chris Hemsworth Cast To Play Main Villain In 'Mad Max: Furiosa'
Mumbai, March 1 - Chris Hemsworth, who usually plays a dashing, charming protagonist, is all set to headline the prequel of "Mad Max: Fury Road" as the main villain against Anya Taylor-Joy's Furiosa as "Mad Max: Furiosa".
While "Mad Max: Furiosa" is still far away from its debut in theaters, with plans to premiere in 2024, in the book titled Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road', it is revealed that Thor star will be facing off Furiosa as primary baddie in the upcoming prequel (via Slash Film).
"Mad Max" has been a popular Australian film franchise though the last film in the series "Mad Max: Fury Road" didn't work out at the box office as The Hollywood Reporter calculated that the loss incurred by the film was around $20–40 million. However, the inclusion of Hemsworth in the cast will surely add extra fuel to the franchise this time around.
"George saw Chris [Hemsworth] initially as a courtesy and then fell in love with the idea. He's going to play totally against type, the lead baddie. Unfortunately, we've got to find all of our other characters that aren't around anymore: a new Immortan, a new Bullet Farmer, and a few others", said P. J. Voeten, a producer and first assistant director on "Mad Max: Fury Road.
In the movie, Taylor-Joy is playing a younger version of Furiosa, who was played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. Theron said the re-casting was "a little heartbreaking", adding that she is excited to see the character's story continue. The prequel is also said to be the costliest film ever with a production budget of $350 million AUD. It will debut in theaters on May 24, 2024, via Warner Bros.
