Disney Settles Million Dollar 'Black Widow' Lawsuit With Scarlett Johansson
Los Angeles, October 1 - Disney lawyers finally can have a breather as the studio has settled the high-profile million dollar lawsuit with actress Scarlett Johansson. The two were battling out for an alleged breach of contract over Johansson's "Black Widow" release, which has now been resolved. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney", stated Johansson according to THR. "I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come".
Due to the lawsuit, filed by Johansson in July over the day-and-date release of "Black Widow" on Disney+ and theaters, the upcoming "Tower of Terror" movie in Johansson was slated to produce and star in was rumored to be canceled. However, as things have settled down, the movie is expected to go ahead.
"I'm very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow", Disney Studios Content Chairman Alan Bergman said in a statement. "We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney's Tower of Terror".
ICYDK, Scarlett Johansson had filed the lawsuit over the "Black Widow" release, reportedly claimed that the release modal of Marvel pic cost her millions. According to the lawsuit, the actress had signed a contract with Disney's Marvel Entertainment/Marvel Studios that guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release of her films, in which her salary was mostly based on the film's box-office performance.
