Disney's Musical Fantasy 'The Little Mermaid' Sets Release Date In India

Mumbai, March 13 - Disney's next potential blockbuster, musical fantasy film The Little Mermaid will be hitting Indian cinemas on May 26, 2023. The first poster along with the trailer of the film was launched on Monday.

"The Little Mermaid" is a live-action adaptation of Disney's 1989 animated film of the same name, which itself is loosely based on the 1837 fairy tale of the same title by Hans Christian Andersen. It is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure.



The youngest of King Triton's daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. These actions lead to a confrontation with her father and an encounter with the conniving sea witch Ursula, making a deal with her to trade her beautiful voice for human legs so she can discover the world above water and impress Eric. However, this ultimately places her life (and her father's crown) in jeopardy.

Directed by Rob Marshall, the film stars singer and actress Halle Bailey in the titular role, along with Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy.
