Hollywood Star Johnny Depp To Direct 'Modi' Biopic
Los Angeles, May 12 - Hollywood actor and filmmaker Johnny Depp is all set to make his return to the director's chair and announced that he will be directing Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani's biopic, titled Modi. He was fondly called Modi among his friends.
The last film directed by Depp is "The Brave" which was released in 1997. According to Deadline, "Modi" will be headlined by Italian star Riccardo Scamarcio who is known for his roles in "John Wick: Chapter 2", "The Best of Youth", and Paolo Sorrentino's "Loro".
Johnny Depp will also co-produce the film alongside Al Pacino and Barry Navidi. Apart from Riccardo Scamarcio who will play the titular role, the movie will also feature Pierre Niney as French artist Maurice Utrillo, and Pacino as art collector Gangnat.
Written by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski, "Modi" is based on Dennis McIntyre's play "Modigliani". It takes place over a 48-hour period and follows Modigliani as he tries to end his career and flee the city while being chased by the police. The shoot for the same will commence in Budapest this fall.
Meanwhile, apart from his directorial return with "Modi", Johnny Depp will headline the French biographical drama film "Jeanne du Barry". The movie will release on May 16 in France.
