Johnny Depp Responds To Hollywood's Boycott Calls Against Him
Cannes, May 17 - Johnny Depp's first leading role in nearly three years, the French movie Jeanne du Barry got a 7-minute standing ovation at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
"Jeanne du Barry", in which Depp plays King Louis XV, marks the actor's first film in three years, following his long legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp won the battle but not before losing multiple big Hollywood projects, including "Fantastic Beasts".
During the legal tussle, many Hollywood studios parted their ways from Depp though some of them now seem to be willing to work with him. During the press conference for "Jeanne du Barry" today at Cannes, Depp was asked about how he feels about Hollywood's boycott calls against him and Depp appeared to have mixed feelings about the same.
"Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood? You'd have to not have a pulse to feel like, 'No. None of this is happening. It's a weird joke'", he said (according to Variety). "When you're asked to resign from a film ("Fantastic Beasts 3") you're doing because of something that is merely a function of vowels and consonants floating in the air, yes you feel boycotted".
He continued, "I don't feel boycotted by Hollywood because I don't think about Hollywood. It's a strange, funny time where everybody would love to be able to be themselves, but they can't. They must fall in line with the person in front of them. If you want to live that life, I wish you the best".
Meanwhile, amid his displeasure with Hollywood, Depp recently signed a $20+ million deal with the French luxury fashion house, Dior. This is said to be the biggest deal ever in men's fragrance.
