The Women's World Championship in WWE was initially established as the SmackDown Women's Championship in 2016. However, in 2023, it underwent a name change to become the Women's World Championship.

Since its inception, there have been a total of 26 championship reigns held by 13 different champions, with one period of vacancy. Charlotte has the most championship reigns, with a total of seven to her name.

The current titleholder is Rhea Ripley, who secured the championship by defeating Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39 Night 1 on April 1, 2023, in Inglewood, California.
