Playback Legend SP Balasubrahmanyam Loses Battle To Covid-19 At The Age Of 74
Legendary playback singer Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam (SPB) has lost the battle to the covid-19 at the age of 74 today. He had tested positive for coronavirus earlier in the month of August and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chennai where he took his last breath.
Having lost a celebrated musician who had sung over 40,000 songs in as many as 16 languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, the nation is in shock, and fans of SP Balasubramanyam are in grief. Social media is flooded with condolences, from celebrities and fans of the late musician.
Previously, it was reported that SP Balasubramanyam was responding well to the treatment and was also expected to be discharged. However, in the last 24 hours, his condition had deteriorated further, warranting maximal life support. Hospital authorities had confirmed that the singer was on life support.

SP Balasubramanyam was honored with a Padma Shri (fourth-highest civilian award) in 2001 and Padma Bhushan (third-highest civilian award) in 2011 by the Government of India for his contribution to the Indian cinema.
Apart from this, SPB holds the Guinness World Record for recording the highest number of songs by a singer. He has garnered six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer for his works in four different languages - Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi along with several other state awards.
