Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Karna' To Be Made In Two-Parts
Mumbai, September 14 - Last year, it was reported that filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has been working on a mythological epic based on Mahabharat's key character Karna. The director reportedly had approached Shahid Kapoor to play this iconic role, however, things seem to have changed since then.
According to Peepingmoon.com, Shahid Kapoor has backed out from this magnum opus, and now, the makers are looking for new actors to play Karna. It is also revealed that the movie will be split into two parts and Mehra is writing this film along with veteran author Anand Neelakantan accordingly.
"The subject and characters are so vast and complicated that he (Rakeysh Mehra) believes one film can not justify Karna's story. Baahubali, KGF, and Pushpa's success have further boosted the maker's confidence to experiment with a multi-part format", read the report.
Meanwhile, this mega project will now reportedly be produced by Farhan Akhtar under his banner Excel Entertainment. It was earlier supposed to be produced by Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP Movies. "The makers are contemplating a big star to headline this project, and while they have pitched the film to 2-3 Bollywood stars, no one has come on board as yet".
"Karna" is touted to be the ambitious project of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, which will be a big-screen spectacle to be made on a 200-crore budget. It will be told from the point of view of the spiritual son of Surya and a loyal friend of Duryodhana. The first part of this epic is expected to go on floors by mid-2023.
