Rani Mukerji's 'Mardaani 3' In The Early Development: Report
Mumbai, September 16 - Rani Mukerji's "Mardaani" is one of the most loved cop film franchises. The Mardaani series was not only hailed by critics but also successful commercially. The first film in the franchise was released in 2014, followed by the second instalment in 2019.
Now, according to Mid-Day, the third instalment of Mardaani is in the early development with Rani Mukerji set to return as IPS officer Shivani Shivaji Roy. It is said that the popularity of Rani's character is one of the reasons behind the creators' decision to go ahead with Mardaani 3.
The report says that Rani Mukerji is closely working with writer-director Gopi Puthran to crack the idea for the next instalment. "Mardaani 3" will take the tale of cop Shivani forward, with Jisshu Sengupta reportedly reprising the role of her husband.
The shoot of "Mardaani 3" is expected to commence early next year and the team plans to shoot across international locations.
Meanwhile, Rani Mukerji was last seen in the legal drama film "Mrs Chatterjee vs. Norway" which was a box office success. Directed by Ashima Chibber, MCVN is inspired by the real-life story of an Indian couple whose children were taken away by Norwegian authorities in 2011.
