Record-Breaking Overseas Pre-Sales For 'Empuraan'

Kochi, March 20 - Superstar Mohanlal's action thriller Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is re-writing history in its overseas pre-sales and is all set to start with a bang at the box office upon its worldwide release on March 27.

The film is having a never-before-seen mass hysteria in the advance sales in the international market. With 6 days still left for the release, the opening day pre-sales of the film has crossed the 15 crore mark, which is already a record for a Malayalam title overseas.



The worldwide bookings have crossed 12 crores gross, even without the regular bookings in the domestic market. In India, the advance booking for the film is expected to commence in the next couple of days and once it opens, a bumper response is expected especially in the home state, Kerala.

As reported earlier, Empuraan will easily score the biggest opening ever for a Malayalam title and the trade is expecting it to open in the range of 40-50 crores gross worldwide which is more than double the current record holder, Marakkar which opened to around 20 crores gross.

Empuraan is easily the biggest Mollywood film and if it manages to get positive word of mouth, then it is sure to open uncharted box office milestones for a Malayalam movie. The biggest current Malayalam grosser is Manjummel Boys (241 crores gross), and this record will be a cakewalk for Empuraan with favourable audience reception.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and produced by Aashirvad Cinemas and Sree Gokulam Movies, Empuraan stars Mohanlal as Khureshi-Ab'raam / Stephen Nedumpally, alongside an ensemble cast consisting of Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Saniya Iyappan, Sachin Khedekar, among others in key roles. It is scheduled to be released on March 27 in Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil languages.
