Supreme Court Suggests Makers Of 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' To Change Name Of The Movie
Mumbai, February 23 - The makers of the upcoming Bollywood movie, "Gangubai Kathiawadi" have been suggested to change the title of the film by the Supreme Court of India. Scheduled to release on February 25th, "Gangubai Kathiawadi" stars Alia Bhatt in the title role.
According to TOI, the apex court made the suggestion in the wake of the several pending cases before the court seeking a halt to the release of the film, based on various factors. The report states that Bhansali's lawyer has said he will seek instructions from the filmmaker before the court continues the hearing tomorrow, February 24.
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, "Gangubai Kathiawadi" is loosely based on the true story of Gangubai Harjivandas, popularly known as Gangubai Kothewali, whose life was documented in the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi.
Seeking the ban on the film, several cases have been filed in various courts. Babu Ravji Shah also filed a case against the filmmaker, alleging that the film is defamatory towards his mother. He has challenged an order from the Bombay High Court which refused to stay the release of the film.
Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court dismissed three petitions filed seeking deletion of the words 'Kamathipura', 'Kathiawadi' and 'China' from the film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'.
