Top Gun: Maverick Is The Joint Best-Reviewed Movie Of Tom Cruise's Career
Los Angeles, May 28 - Tom Cruise's pandemic delayed actioner, Top Gun: Maverick took flight with an excellent $19.3 million in domestic (North America) Thursday previews, which is the highest-ever for Paramount Pictures and for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.
The film, touted as one of the finest sequels ever made in Hollywood, is one of the best-reviewed Hollywood movies and the joint best of Tom Cruise's prolific 5-decade long career. The movie presently sports a stunning 97% on Rotten Tomatoes from 306 reviews, the same score as Mission: Impossible — Fallout (2018).
The Paramount and Skydance pic is way ahead of its preceder in terms of critics' reviews. While Top Gun (1986) was a huge box office success, it gained, however, only a 58% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 71 reviews. Cruise's lowest score on Rotten Tomatoes is 1988's Cocktail, 7 percent from 44 reviews.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun 2 will become Cruise's biggest opener ever and very much on its way to top $100 million in its 4-day Memorial Day weekend at the domestic box office. Worldwide, the movie is tracking to take over $200 million in the opening weekend.
