Valimai Takes Bumper Start In Tamil Nadu; Rest of India Decent

Chennai, Feb 24, 2022: As fans of Ajith Kumar waited for more than 2 years to see him on the big screen, the time came with Valimai releasing on 24th Feb 2022 in multiple languages across India.

By looking at the advance booking collection of Valimai, one could easily figure out that it will create havoc on its opening day at the box office in Tamil Nadu. Valimai releases on more than 900 screens in Tamil Nadu and 5000 shows including fans shows. Almost every show in Tamil Nadu has more than 90% occupancy which leads it to a massive first day.

According to early estimates, Valimai earned around 29-30 Cr from Tamil Nadu alone but the rest of India was not as good as Tamil Nadu. Including Karnataka, Kerala, AP/TG and other states, it fetched around 6-7 Cr. So total India gross becomes around 35-36 cr for the first day.

This film is directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor.

Valimai stars Ajith Kumar, and Huma Qureshi in key roles.

Jana Nayagan Global Advance Booking: Vijay's Final Film Enters Elite League With 8,000 Screen Release Alongside Jawan and Pushpa 2

BY SACNILK

The anticipation surrounding Thalapathy Vijay’s final cinematic outing, Jana Nayagan, has reached a level rarely seen in the industry. Set for a massive global release on July 23, 2026, the film is being positioned as a historic milestone, marking the end of an era for one of cinema's most dominant stars. KVN Productions, headed by Venkat K. Narayana, has left no stone unturned in preparing for this farewell event, securing an expansive footprint of approximately 7,000 to 8,000 screens across the globe to ensure the film reaches every corner of his massive fan base. With a planned footprint of 7,000 to 8,000 screens, Jana Nayagan enters the elite league of the biggest Indian releases in history. While it sits just behind the massive scale set by Pushpa 2: The Rule, which holds the record with over 12,000 screens, and Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan with 10,000 screens, it stands in the same bracket as other recent blockbusters. For context, Kalki 2898 AD and K.G.F: Chapter 2 both released on approximately 9,500 screens worldwide, while the global phenomenon RRR occupied 9,000 screens. For a film primarily driven by the Tamil market to secure such a high volume of theaters globally highlights the sheer stardom Thalapathy Vijay commands on the international stage. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The scale of this release is truly global, spanning more than 30 countries. Early reports suggest that even with only limited locations and shows currently open, the worldwide advance booking has already crossed the 4 crore mark. This is just the tip of the iceberg, as full-fledged bookings in its primary fortress, Tamil Nadu, are expected to open only by Sunday, July 19. Industry insiders anticipate a complete shutdown of ticket portals the moment the Tamil Nadu bookings go live, given the emotional weight attached to this being the actors final film before his full-time political journey. In the overseas market, the United Kingdom is currently leading the charge. The official distributor, Ahimsa Entertainment, confirmed that the movie has already cleared 1 crore in standalone pre-sales. The demand was so intense that thousands of tickets were snapped up within the first hour of bookings opening. A major draw for the UK audience is the confirmation that the film will be screened completely uncut, preserving the original vision of the director without any modifications. This has only added to the frenzy among the diaspora. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Moving across the Atlantic, the situation in Canada is equally fascinating but follows a more structured approach. York Cinemas has introduced a unique phased booking system to manage the surge. For the first three days, access is strictly limited to VIP Members, specifically those fans who held tickets for the films previously delayed January release. This move aims to prioritize loyal supporters before opening general public bookings. Meanwhile, in Australia, ticket portals have gone live across all major theater chains, recording rapid sales that suggest a record-breaking opening weekend for an Indian film in the region. Back home in India, Bengaluru has taken the honor of being the first major city to open advance reservations. On July 16, tickets were quietly released for select screens, and the response was instantaneous. The highly coveted 6:00 AM First Day First Show slots were sold out in minutes, proving that the craze for Vijay transcends state borders. However, it has not been entirely smooth sailing, as Bengaluru's famous Victory Cinema has reportedly opted out of screening the film following a commercial dispute with the production house. While this is a loss for that specific venue, it has done little to dampen the overall spirit of the fans who are flocking to other available theaters.

Gatta Kusthi 2 Day 13: Film Earns Rs. 1.05 Crore Gross, Set to Cross 50 Crore Mark by the 3rd Weekend

BY SACNILK

Gatta Kusthi 2 has emerged as a significant player in the sports-comedy genre, riding high on the success of its predecessor. Directed by Chella Ayyavu and featuring the popular duo of Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi, the film has sustained a lot of buzz due to its blend of high-stakes wrestling and relatable family dynamics. The sequel was met with high expectations, and it seems the audience is still showing up to support the film well into its second week of release. When we look at the financial health of the movie, the numbers tell a story of steady progress. Gatta Kusthi 2 has now reached a total worldwide gross collection of 47.42 crore. To break that down for you, 39.22 crore has come from the domestic Indian market, while 8.20 crore was earned from overseas territories. In terms of net earnings, the film has managed to secure 34.18 crore so far. This has been achieved across a very wide release totaling 24,908 shows. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) On Day 13, the India gross was 1.05 crore, which is a manageable drop from the 1.17 crore it grossed on Day 12. If we talk about the net figures, the Day 13 collection of 0.93 crore represents an 8.8 percent decline compared to the previous day's net of 1.02 crore. This kind of trend is quite logical for a film in this stage of its theatrical journey, as it stabilizes after the initial rush. The state-wise gross report further illustrates the film's regional dominance. On Day 13, Tamil Nadu led the way with 1.00 crore in gross earnings. Karnataka and Kerala followed with 0.03 crore and 0.02 crore respectively. Looking at the cumulative totals, Tamil Nadu is the clear engine of growth with 35.45 crore grossed to date. Karnataka has contributed 2.22 crore, Kerala has added 1.21 crore, while the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions have brought in 0.15 crore. Other parts of India have contributed a combined 0.19 crore to the total gross. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In the national multiplex chains, the film is maintaining a presence showing a consistent performance. For Day 13, the combined gross from PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis was approximately 4 lakh. This came from a total of 3,800 tickets sold across 200 shows at 65 venues. Breaking this down, PVR led the segment with 2,300 tickets resulting in a 2.5 lakh gross. INOX followed with 1,200 tickets and a 1.2 lakh gross, while Cinepolis rounded out the total with 300 tickets and a 0.3 lakh gross. The average occupancy for these national chains was about 8 percent. The general occupancy across all theaters for Day 13 was 16.53 percent. What is interesting is how the interest built up throughout the day. Starting with 14.55 percent in the morning, the numbers moved up to 15.91 percent in the afternoon and 16.36 percent in the evening, before peaking at 17.91 percent for the night shows. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Regionally, Chennai remains the most active market for Gatta Kusthi 2. The city recorded an occupancy of 20.8 percent across its 260 shows. Coimbatore also saw a fair amount of traffic with 12.3 percent occupancy from 100 shows, while Bengaluru recorded 9.8 percent occupancy across 62 shows. These figures highlight that the film is maintaining a consistent grip on its core urban markets. Finally, the digital engagement continues to reflect a healthy appetite for the film. In the last 24 hours alone, 10,690 tickets were sold on BookMyShow, bringing the total tickets sold on the platform to 719,300. As the film approaches the 50 crore worldwide gross milestone, it is clear that the wrestling-based drama is finding a way to keep the audience engaged even after nearly two weeks in the theaters.

Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam 2 on the Cards: Rio Raj to Step into Sivakarthikeyan's Shoes for the Blockbuster Sequel?

BY SACNILK

Director Ponram officially confirmed that a sequel to the 2013 cult comedy blockbuster, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, was in development during an interview back in December 2025. This update was shared while he was promoting his film Kombuseevi, finally addressing years of fan requests for a second installment. Despite the confirmation happening late last year, the project continues to spark intense debate across Kollywood social media circles due to a significant shift in its casting and creative direction. While the news has been public for some time, the transition from the original leads to a new team remains a major talking point as the production moves closer to reality. The original film was a major milestone in Sivakarthikeyan's career, but the director has clarified why the actor will not be headlining the sequel. Ponram initially drafted the script with Sivakarthikeyan in mind, but the actor's stardom and market value have grown exponentially over the last decade. The director noted that a simple rural comedy no longer aligns with Sivakarthikeyan's current massive star status and mass hero image. Rather than heavily overhauling the script to fit a larger-than-life persona, the decision was made to transition the project to a fresh cast. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Current reports and industry buzz strongly suggest that Rio Raj is stepping in as the lead for this sequel. Adding another layer to his involvement, Rio Raj is also expected to bankroll the film under his newly established production banner, River Route Studios. While Ponram has confirmed that the story is completely ready, the final casting and production details are still awaiting a formal announcement from the team. Until then, these reports remain in the realm of unverified speculation. The original 2013 film remains a massive blockbuster in Tamil cinema, having grossed over ₹30 crore at the box office and successfully completing a 50-day theatrical run. Its success was anchored by the comedic chemistry between Sivakarthikeyan, Soori, and Sathyaraj, complemented by a chartbuster soundtrack from D. Imman that included popular tracks like Oodha Kalaru Ribbon. Because the first installment set such a high benchmark for rural entertainers, many fans believe that recreating that same rustic charm and comedic timing without the original lead duo will be a significant challenge for the sequel. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) On social media, the announcement has faced some pushback, with a section of the audience expressing that nobody can replace the SK factor. There have even been suggestions from fans to change the title of the film to avoid direct comparisons with the iconic first part. The creative team is reportedly focused on recreating that exact lighthearted audio-visual vibe. The reported shift in the lead role points toward Rio Raj, who has established a presence in the industry with films like Nenjamundu Nermaiyundu Odu Raja and the 2023 hit Joe. His most recent outing, Aan Paavam Polladhadhu, performed well at the box office, solidifying his standing as a viable lead for comedy-centric entertainers. Beyond just acting, Rio Raj is expected to bankroll this project under his own production banner, River Route Studios, while he also prepares for his upcoming release, Ram Leela. This transition marks a significant pivot for the franchise, as the makers look to bring in a fresh energy that aligns with the current market for mid-budget rural comedies. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) As the sequel moves into its next phase of development, the original team is focused on their respective individual projects. Sivakarthikeyan is currently busy with a packed lineup that includes the film Seyon, while director Ponram is also developing another full-fledged comedy film alongside this VVS sequel. Whether the sequel can live up to the blockbuster legacy of the original without its founding lead duo is something the industry will be watching closely as official production details emerge.

Thalapathy Vijay starrer Jana Nayagan official release date locked for July 23 as the CM clears a massive censor battle

BY SACNILK

The long wait for one of the most anticipated films of 2026 is finally coming to an end. KVN Productions has officially announced that Jana Nayagan, starring Thalapathy Vijay, will hit the big screens on July 23. The announcement was made with a powerful message describing the project as tested by fire and built for history. This official confirmation settles months of speculation regarding the release of what is widely considered to be the final cinematic outing for Vijay, who has now transitioned into a full-time political career after being sworn in as the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following his electoral victory. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film is a political action thriller that has generated massive interest since its announcement. The project features an impressive ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani. The technical team is equally strong with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music and Sathyan Sooryan handling the cinematography. Originally intended for a Pongal release in January, the film’s arrival was delayed by seven months due to an unprecedented standoff with the censor board. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The censorship journey for Jana Nayagan has been particularly turbulent. After months of legal discussions and revisions, the Central Board of Film Certification recently awarded the film an A certificate. The initial runtime was reported as 183 minutes, but fresh updates indicate that the movie has been re-censored to include an additional 41 seconds of footage. This brings the final runtime to approximately 3 hours, 3 minutes, and 52 seconds. While Indian audiences will see the version with suggested modifications, reports suggest that some overseas markets will screen the original uncut version with a 15+ classification. However, the road to the official release date has not been without its share of administrative hurdles. For the past few days, there was significant confusion within the trade and among fans as overseas distributors and ticketing platforms were operating on a July 24 release window. In fact, bookings had already opened in several international territories like the UK and Canada for the 24th. The sudden shift back to July 23, just ten days before the premiere, has created a logistical mess for overseas distributors who now have to reshuffle screenings and confirmed bookings at the last minute. Industry trackers suggest this late change could potentially impact the initial screen count in certain international markets due to the sudden scheduling conflict. As the film prepares for its massive worldwide opening, the primary focus is now on the advance bookings in the domestic market. With the release date now set in stone for July 23, the industry is gearing up for what is expected to be a historic theatrical run for the actor.

AK 64 sees Shalini Ajith Kumar taking over production as Ajith Kumar reunites with Adhik Ravichandran for a Mass Entertainer

BY SACNILK

Ajith Kumar is set to begin work on his 64th feature film, tentatively titled AK 64, which brings a new production dynamic to the actor's career. The project is gaining attention for its star power and the specific involvement of his family in the production process. As the film enters extensive pre-production, the primary focus is on setting up a mass commercial entertainer that reunites a successful director-actor duo. One of the most discussed aspects of AK 64 is the official involvement of Shalini Ajith Kumar. It has been reported that she will be producing the film under the home banner, and her name is set to appear prominently on both the posters and the title cards. Beyond just being a presenter, industry sources suggest that Shalini is actively overseeing the project's finances, production operations, and overall progress. This hands-on approach from the family has added an extra layer of excitement for the fans and the trade alike. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) On the creative side, the film sees Ajith Kumar reuniting with director Adhik Ravichandran. This collaboration comes right after their work on Good Bad Ugly, marking a rare instance of the actor working with the same director for two consecutive projects. The film is being designed as a mass commercial family entertainer, a genre that has traditionally worked very well for Ajith. Adhik is currently in the middle of extensive pre-production, with the team having already initiated the casting process and location scouting to ensure a smooth transition into filming. Anirudh Ravichander is set to compose the music for AK 64, marking another collaboration in a busy period for the actor and composer. This project follows their work on two other major Tamil films, including the 2025 action thriller Vidaamuyarchi and the action comedy Good Bad Ugly. By bringing Anirudh on board for this third project, the team is maintaining a consistent musical partnership that has defined Ajith Kumar's most recent filmography. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) While the official title and more specific cast details are yet to be revealed, the current progress indicates that the team is leaving no stone unturned in the planning phase. The combination of a family-backed production, a director who understands Ajith's mass appeal, and a top-tier music composer makes AK 64 one of the most anticipated Tamil films in the coming year.

Jailer 2 Audio Launch in Malaysia? Reported Move to Follow Endhiran and Jana Nayagan Trend

BY SACNILK

Reports circulating online suggest that a grand audio launch for Jailer 2 might be headed to Malaysia. News of preliminary discussions between Superstar Rajinikanth and Dato' Abdul Malik, the head of Malik Streams, has sparked widespread speculation that the team is planning a massive international event. If this move is finalized, it would mirror the highly successful promotional strategy used for the 2010 blockbuster Endhiran, which also held its audio launch in Malaysia. By choosing an overseas venue, production house Sun Pictures appears to be focusing on the film’s global distribution potential, aiming to further expand the massive international footprint established by the first installment. The move follows a prestigious tradition of high-profile Tamil film events in the region. Historically, Superstar Rajinikanth himself initiated this trend with the landmark audio launch of Endhiran in 2010 at the PICC Putrajaya. This was more recently followed by the massive event for Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan in 2025, which drew significant crowds to the Stadium Bukit Jalil. If Jailer 2 proceeds with its current plans, it would become the latest major production to utilize Malaysia's grand venues to kickstart its global promotional campaign. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The makers have already locked in a strategic release window to capitalize on a major holiday period. Jailer 2 is officially scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on October 15, 2026. This date aligns perfectly with the Dussehra and Ayudha Pooja festivities, a move designed to drive heavy footfalls during one of the most lucrative box office seasons in India. By securing this slot well in advance, Sun Pictures is positioning the film to dominate the screens, much like the original film did during its record-breaking run. One of the most exciting aspects of the sequel is the expansion of its cast into a true pan-Indian ensemble. Rajinikanth returns as the retired lawman Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, but he is far from alone in this high-stakes narrative. Industry reports confirm that Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar will reprise their popular roles as Mathew and Narasimha, respectively. Adding further gravitas to the lineup are veterans Jackie Shroff and Mithun Chakraborty, who are expected to anchor pivotal supporting threads. The sequel also introduces fresh faces to the franchise, with Vidya Balan, Vijay Sethupathi, and S.J. Suryah officially joining the main roster. In what is being described as a major highlight, Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan is reportedly locked in for a high-octane cameo appearance, further cementing the film's pan-Indian appeal. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The core creative team remains unchanged. Nelson Dilipkumar returns as both writer and director, with a plan to lean deeper into his signature style that blends dark comedy with stylized, high-stakes action. Similarly, the musical landscape of the sequel is in familiar hands, with Anirudh Ravichander set to compose the entire soundtrack and background score. Fans can also expect to see returning favorites like Ramya Krishnan as Viji Pandian, along with Yogi Babu and Sunil, ensuring that the personal and comedic elements of the first film transition smoothly into this new chapter. The decision to potentially move the audio launch to Malaysia suggests a calculated effort to treat Jailer 2 as a global cinematic event. By combining a star-studded cast from multiple film industries with an international marketing campaign, the producers are aiming for a performance that transcends regional boundaries. As the project moves through its various production stages, the focus will remain on how Nelson balances this massive ensemble while staying true to the grounded, gritty roots of Muthuvel Pandian’s journey.

Top 5 Weekend Winners (July 10-12): Dhamaal 4 and Lenin Rule As Evil Dead Burn Expens Horror's Footprints

Mumbai, July 13 - The Indian box office enjoyed another strong weekend as films from Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Hollywood attracted audiences across the country. Ajay Devgn's Dhamaal 4 emerged as the undisputed winner of the July 10–12 weekend, posting a solid opening and comfortably finishing ahead of the competition. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The Indra Kumar-directed Dhamaal 4 topped the weekend chart with an estimated 78 crore gross at the Indian box office, driven by excellent occupancy and significant growth over Saturday and Sunday. The comedy entertainer has reaffirmed the box office strength of franchise films and family entertainers. Akhil Akkineni's Telugu action drama Lenin brings the actor back in the success form after back-to-back box office duds, and secured the second spot in the weekend chart, delivering a solid opening in the Telugu market and establishing itself as one of the biggest regional launches of the month. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Hollywood's Evil Dead Burn claimed the third position, extending its impressive theatrical run after recording the biggest opening for a horror film in India this year. Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan to Release Uncut in UK; Major Political Edits Ordered for Indian Version

BY SACNILK

The anticipation for Jana Nayagan is at an all-time high as it marks the final cinematic outing for Thalapathy Vijay. Produced by KVN Productions and directed by H. Vinoth, known for his grounded yet high-octane action films, the project is being marketed with the evocative tagline - The Torch Bearer of Democracy. This political action thriller features a massive ensemble cast including Bobby Deol as the primary antagonist, alongside Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Prakash Raj. With Anirudh Ravichander returning to compose the music, the film is being mounted on a grand scale, serving as both a high-stakes entertainer and a symbolic farewell for one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema. Thalapathy Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, is gearing up for a massive theatrical release on July 24, but the viewing experience is going to be significantly different for fans in India compared to those overseas. As the film prepares to serve as a grand farewell to the superstar's acting career, it has undergone a rigorous review process by the censor board in India, leading to several notable changes. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) It is reported that the Central Board of Film Certification has granted Jana Nayagan an A certificate in India, but the approval came with 12 major edits that heavily target the film's political undertones. The board has reportedly ordered the complete removal or muting of the acronym TVK from both audio and visual tracks. While the acronym represents the character’s name, Thalapathy Vetri Kondan, its resemblance to Vijay's actual political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, is likely the reason for the censor. Furthermore, a specific sequence depicting the Indian national flag falling to the ground was deleted, alongside visuals showing disrespect toward a District Collector's insignia. The edits also extend to sensitive political and religious references. Mandated corrections were made to a book cover featuring the image of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and a dialogue comparing Ambedkar's law to TVK's law was restructured. Other notable mutes include the phrase New India and controversial lines regarding making the country fall at one's feet or holding secret celebrations in the country. Even global and religious references were flagged, with a dialogue mentioning Saddam Hussein being silenced, along with terms like Om, Bhagavatham, and Ranganathar. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Beyond the political content, the board ordered the removal of a graphic scene depicting a child being burnt and trimmed approximately 20 seconds from various violent action sequences to tone down the overall impact. The name Sheela Rani was also scrubbed from the film's audio and text throughout the production. Finally, two specific heavy profanities were muted to ensure the final theatrical cut meets the necessary standards before the film reaches the audience. However, the international audience will get to see the film in its rawest form. Ahimsa Entertainment, the distributor for the United Kingdom, has confirmed that Jana Nayagan will be screened completely uncut in the UK with a 15-rating. This means fans there will experience the action, the political statements, and the mass sequences exactly as they were originally shot. Similarly, Home Screen Entertainment is bringing the film to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea, ensuring a wide global footprint for Vijay's swan song. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The marketing for the film in the UK is already leaning into this uncut advantage, promising fans the full Thalapathy craze one last time. While the Indian version will be a more polished or perhaps softened version due to the 12 edits, the core of the story is expected to remain intact. Given the immense buzz and the emotional weight of this being Vijay's final film, these censor details have only added more fuel to the ongoing discussions among the fans and the film trade. As the release date of July 24 approaches, the contrast between the Indian and international versions will likely be a major talking point. For now, the focus remains on the box office potential of Jana Nayagan, which is expected to shatter several records as the actor says goodbye to the silver screen.

Love Oh Love Opening Weekend Box Office Collection: Records 1,300+ Shows as it Earns Rs. 0.67 Crore India Gross

The romantic drama Love Oh Love has wrapped up its first three days in theaters, marking the completion of its opening weekend. Released with a focused footprint in the Southern markets of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, the film established its presence across 1,331 shows during its first three days. This localized release strategy has allowed the movie to tap into the regional audience as it begins its theatrical journey. Looking at the India net collections, the film started its journey on Friday with ₹0.15 Crore. There was a visible jump on Saturday, which is usually a positive sign for any film, as it collected ₹0.26 Crore—a growth of over 70 percent from its opening day. However, this momentum did not translate into a bigger Sunday. On its third day, the collections dropped back to ₹0.17 Crore, bringing the total opening weekend net collection to ₹0.58 Crore. Currently, the worldwide gross stands at ₹0.67 Crore, with almost all of it coming from the domestic market as the overseas contribution remains negligible. The film saw an opening day response of approximately 11,000 to 13,000 tickets. Telugu and Tamil Cinema Set To Collide Over Two Epic Films Based On Hindu God Lord Murugan

BY SACNILK

Hyderabad, July 11 - Telugu and Tamil cinema are gearing up for an exciting showdown, with two ambitious films based on Lord Murugan currently in development. While Indian cinema has produced several epics over the years, it is rare for two major industries to simultaneously back large-scale films inspired by the same Hindu deity. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) On the Telugu front, filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas is developing a magnum opus on Lord Murugan with Jr NTR in the lead. The project has generated significant buzz since its announcement, with the makers reportedly planning a grand visual spectacle that combines history, emotion, and cutting-edge visual effects. The film is expected to begin production after Jr NTR wraps up his ongoing commitments. Tamil cinema, meanwhile, has announced Thamizh Murugan, starring Dhanush in the lead role. The ambitious project will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vetrimaaran and is expected to present a distinct cinematic interpretation of Lord Murugan. The announcement has already created considerable excitement, given the combination of Dhanush and Vetrimaaran, who have previously delivered acclaimed films together. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) With both projects still in the early stages and release dates yet to be announced, the parallel development of these two films has become a major talking point among fans. If the films arrive within a similar timeframe, audiences could witness an intriguing comparison between Telugu and Tamil cinema's unique storytelling styles and their respective visions of one of Hinduism's most revered deities. About Lord Murugan Lord Murugan, also known as Kartikeya, Skanda, Subrahmanya, Shanmukha, and Kumara, is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism. He is especially worshipped in South India, particularly in Tamil Nadu, as the God of War, Courage, Victory, and Wisdom. Lord Murugan is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and the younger brother of Lord Ganesha. He is believed to have been born to defeat the powerful demon Tarakasura, who could only be slain by Shiva's son.

Love Oh Love Day 1: Bilingual Romance Starts With Rs 0.17 Cr Gross; Chennai Records Peak Interest

BY SACNILK

The bilingual romantic drama, Love Oh Love, has completed its first day at the box office with a modest opening. Released in both Tamil and Telugu, the film managed to collect a net of ₹ 0.15 crore in India on its opening Friday. With a total of 530 shows across the country, the India gross collection stood at ₹ 0.17 crore. As there were no significant collections reported from overseas markets, the worldwide gross total remains at ₹ 0.17 crore for the first day. If we look at the language-wise performance, the Tamil version led the collections, contributing ₹ 0.10 crore to the net total. It saw a 15.0 per cent occupancy across 319 shows. The Telugu version added the remaining ₹ 0.05 crore, recording a 14.0 per cent occupancy from 211 shows. While these numbers are on the lower side, the film is primarily targeting a niche audience that enjoys slow-paced romantic narratives. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In terms of ticket volume, early estimates from BookMyShow suggest that Love Oh Love sold between 11,000 and 13,000 tickets nationally on its opening day. This includes both pre-sales and walk-in bookings. The interest levels remained somewhat low throughout the day, which was reflected in the overall occupancy for the Tamil 2D version, which averaged 7.70 per cent. Analyzing the occupancy trends by time of day, the film saw its highest traction during the night shows, which peaked at 9.46 per cent. It had a decent morning start at 7.38 per cent, but experienced a dip during the afternoon and evening hours, falling as low as 2.77 per cent in the evening. This pattern suggests that the film is currently attracting late-night moviegoers rather than daytime family or student crowds. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The performance in the national chains, including PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis, was limited to 80 shows across 58 venues. In these chains, the film sold a total of approximately 1.2k tickets, resulting in a gross collection of around ₹ 1.7 lakh at an occupancy of 9.4 per cent. PVR was the primary contributor among the chains, selling nearly 0.8k tickets and grossing about ₹ 1.1 lakh from 37 shows. INOX followed with approximately 0.2k tickets and a gross of around ₹ 0.3 lakh across 21 shows, while Cinepolis added another 0.2k tickets, earning nearly ₹ 0.3 lakh from 22 shows. PVR recorded the highest occupancy among the three at a notable 14.6 per cent. Regionally, Chennai was the strongest market for the film. Across 78 shows in the city, the overall occupancy stood at 19.3 per cent. The city shows started strong with 23 per cent occupancy in the morning and concluded with 22 per cent for the night shows. Coimbatore also showed some promise with a 12.0 per cent overall occupancy, peaking at 22 per cent at night. However, other major centers like Bengaluru remained quiet, recording a low overall occupancy of just 3.5 per cent across 32 shows.

Idhayam Murali Day 1: Aakash Baskaran's Nostalgic Romance Mints 2.19 Cr Gross; Enters Top 10 Openers of 2026

If you have a soft spot for the feel-good romances of 90s Tamil cinema, Idhayam Murali is a film designed specifically for that sentiment. Directed by Aakash Baskaran, the movie attempts to rekindle the old magic and nostalgia of that era, often drawing comparisons to the early romantic style of Karan Johar Films. It is a coming-of-age drama that follows a man who finds it impossible to express his love to women at various stages of his life, eventually documenting his journey to finding true love. On its opening day, the film has managed to find its audience, particularly in the urban centers of Tamil Nadu. Idhayam Murali collected a net of ₹ 1.90 crore across 1,283 shows in India. This resulted in a total India gross collection of ₹ 2.19 crore for the first day. The performance suggests that the film is catering well to the target audience that seeks emotional, character-driven narratives over high-octane action. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Looking at the state-wise gross distribution, Tamil Nadu was the primary driver of business, contributing ₹ 1.95 crore. In the neighboring states, Karnataka recorded a gross of ₹ 15 lakh, while Kerala contributed ₹ 7 lakh. The rest of India and the APTG (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) regions together added approximately ₹ 2 lakh to the final tally. These numbers indicate that while the film has a very strong regional focus, it is starting to gain some traction in neighboring southern markets. With this opening, the film has officially secured a spot in the top 10 Tamil openers of 2026 so far. It currently ranks at the ninth position, ahead of Vaa Vaathiyaare but trailing behind Mankatha and Youth. Coimbatore also showed strong interest with 32.3 per cent overall occupancy, peaking at 48 per cent at night. The occupancy in PVR was particularly impressive, hovering around 34 per cent. As we enter the second day, Saturday, the momentum seems to be building further. The film is officially trending on BookMyShow, with 5.08k tickets booked in the last hour alone. In a rolling 24-hour cycle, the movie has already crossed 18.25k tickets booked nationally. Chennai remains the heart of this growth, where it recently clocked a peak velocity of 6.04k tickets booked in a single hour. Other centers like Mayiladuthurai are also providing solid support, tracking steady volumes with 3.74k tickets in the last hour. With a very strong BMS rating of 9.1/10 from over 2,000 votes, the film is well-positioned for a significant weekend jump.
