WWE Friday Night SmackDown, February 2, 2024 Play-By-Play Results
We witness highlights from The Royal Rumble.
Pharaoh accompanies his owner Cody Rhodes as they make their entrance into the arena.
Bayley makes her way to the ring alongside Iyo, Kairi, and Asuka.
Logan Paul strides down to the ring.
Logan voices his dissatisfaction with the venue, stating it sucks and asserting he underestimated Kevin Owens. He describes Kevin as appearing like a "pissed-off doughnut" and acknowledges the damage inflicted by Kevin during their match. Despite this, Logan claims victory, asserting he is one of the toughest individuals on the roster.
Interrupting Logan, Kevin Owens heads to the stage and dismisses Logan's complaints about Birmingham, telling him to shut up. Kevin emphasizes a moral victory in being able to knock out Logan during their match. He declares his intention to take the title from Logan.
Logan contends that Kevin missed his chance at the title and accuses him of falling for the brass knuckles setup. He asserts he outsmarted Kevin, playing chess while Kevin played Go Fish.
Kevin challenges Logan's claim of outsmarting him, pointing out that fans have been watching him for a decade and emphasizing his determination to win, even if it means using questionable tactics. Kevin acknowledges getting caught with the brass knuckles and commends the referee for doing a great job. He vows to beat Logan without resorting to such tactics in their next encounter.
Logan insists Kevin won't get another title shot and dismisses him, redirecting his focus to finding a new challenger. He advises Kevin to worry about Austin Theory while promising to talk smack about him on commentary.
Singles Match: Kevin Owens vs. Austin Theory (with Grayson Waller)
Owens initiates a waist lock, and Theory swiftly counters with a standing switch. Owens then secures a side headlock, executing a takedown that results in a near fall. Despite Theory's attempts to send him off the ropes, Owens holds on, following up with a shoulder tackle and seamlessly transitioning into an arm drag, culminating in an arm bar.
Theory misses a punch, allowing Owens to respond with a sharp chop. Owens lands a punch, but Theory counters with a well-placed kick followed by a series of punches. Owens retaliates with a back elbow, but Theory cleverly raises his knees when Kevin goes for a back senton. Seizing the opportunity, Theory delivers a barrage of punches and proceeds to choke Kevin in the ropes. Continuing the assault, Theory unleashes more punches and intensifies the attack by choking Kevin in the corner.
Kevin manages to break free momentarily with an Irish whip, but Theory counters by sending him into the turnbuckles. As Theory sets up for a slingshot rolling drop kick, Kevin skillfully swats him away, leading to a successful back senton. Kevin follows up with a cannonball for a near fall. Theory retreats to the apron, and Kevin pursues. On the apron, Theory delivers a forearm and attempts a suplex, but Kevin thwarts the effort. Undeterred, Kevin tries for a powerbomb, but Theory counters with a back body drop onto the apron, causing Kevin to tumble to the floor.
We're back, and Austin is now in control, delivering some impactful shots to Owens. Following a massive lariat, Theory finds himself taken down by Owens. Owens proceeds to chop down Theory in the corner. Climbing to the top turnbuckle, Owens executes a Tornado DDT, followed by a Swanton from the top of the ring post.
The crowd is firmly behind Owens as he goes for the Stunner, but Austin counters, sending him into the ring post. Austin follows up with a blockbuster for a near fall. Taking Owens to the ring post, Austin executes his move. However, Owens manages to land a Superkick on Theory. Meanwhile, Logan Paul makes his way to the apron, and Waller joins him. Owens, showing resilience, delivers an uppercut to Waller and then goes for a punch to Theory with his brass knuckles, securing the victory.
WINNER: Kevin Owens
We see the world Women's Champion Rhea Ripley walking backstage.
Naomi is seen leaving Aldis's office with her SmackDown contract and Belair, Shotzi, and Mia Yim are also with him. Meanwhile, Tiffany Straton hits Mia and gets out of there. Mia demands a match against Straton.
Qualifier Match for the Tag Titles: Kit Wilson and Elton Prince vs Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate vs Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo vs Joaquin Wilde and Cruz del Toro
Elton and Tyler kick off with a flurry of forearms. Tyler maneuvers through Elton's legs for a kick, and a wrist lock follows. Pete tags in, targeting Elton's arm with a kick. Elton tags in Wilde, who engages in a sequence of head scissors with the opponents.
Angel, Humberto, Elton, and Kit try to counter, but Cruz, Wilde, Bate, and Pete turn the tide. Cruz avoids Humberto with a head scissors, and Wilde tags in for stereo baseball slides. They set up for a slingshot, launching Wilde into the air.
Back in action, Elton controls Wilde with a side headlock, eventually taking him to the mat. Pete desires a tag but Elton opts for a belly-to-back suplex, with Wilde landing on his feet. Pete tags in, delivering enzuigiris to Elton and Kit. He kicks Angel and Humberto off the apron, stomping on Elton's hands and executing a kick. Pete follows up with a release suplex. Kit interrupts the cover, and Tyler performs an airplane spin to Elton, finishing with a rebound clothesline and a German suplex on Kit.
Angelo and Humberto collaborate for a pop-up powerbomb, while Wilde and Cruz execute a double springboard crossbody. Elektra attempts to interfere, but Zelina pulls her off the apron. Cruz and Wilde then take the action outside with suicide dives. Vega joins the fray with a Meteora onto Lopez. Kit nearly scores a roll-up on Pete, who retaliates by pulling at Kit's fingers. Tyler tags in, and they conclude with a double back drop for the three-count.
WINNER: Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate
Tonight's matchup is announced: Mia Yim versus Tiffany Stratton. A recap of Bayley's recent actions on Raw is shown.
In the backstage area, Asuka, Kairi, and Iyo converse in Japanese. Iyo assures them that everything is okay and that Bayley will be dealt with tonight. As they leave, Bayley enters the room, having overheard their conversation.
Up next, WWE Raw GM Adam Pearce is already in the ring to facilitate the proceedings. Bayley's music hits, and she, accompanied by Iyo, Asuka, and Kairi, makes her way to the ring. Taking the mic, Bayley declares she's accomplished it all, emphasizing that this year is special. She acknowledges the support from the Damage CTR, while Kairi, Iyo, and Asuka burst into laughter.
Bayley expresses her intention to target Rhea Ripley. She then takes a jab at Iyo, Asuka, and Kairi, leading to a sudden sneak attack from Asuka and Kairi. In response, Bayley retrieves a pipe from beneath the ring, unleashing a relentless beatdown on all three. Eventually, Bayley clears the ring, still clutching the mic, and confidently declares that she'll see everyone at WrestleMania.
Akam, Rezar, and Karrion Kross (with Scarlett and Paul Ellering) vs Bobby Lashley, Montez Ford, and Angelo Dawkins
Before the match officially starts, all six men engage in a brawl. Rezar and Akam are sent to the floor by Ford and Dawkins. In the ring, Lashley and Kross face off, with Lashley hitting a spinebuster and applying the Hurt Lock. Scarlett interferes, but B Fab stops her with a kick. Lashley then spears Kross.
Bron Breakker has a contract and he is in Nick's office, but Adam Pearce interrupts, urging Bron to come to Raw on Monday. Bron agrees to think about it, prompting a confrontation between Nick and Adam. Jade Cargill enters, asking for a moment with Nick, leading to Adam leaving the office for their conversation.
Singles Match: Tiffany Stratton vs Michin
Michin takes early control with a dropkick and forearms in the corner. Tiffany endures repeated turnbuckle hits and a hard Irish whip. Michin's punches earn a near fall, but Tiffany kicks her away. Michin responds with kicks and a gutwrench suplex, securing another near fall.
Tiffany kicks Michin to the floor, but Michin counters with a through-the-ropes dropkick. Tiffany blocks a kick and sends Michin face-first into the apron. After the break, Tiffany executes a running hip to the back and a spinning heel kick for a near fall. Michin retaliates with slaps, punches, chops, and forearms. She follows up with a clothesline, kick, dropkick, and a neck breaker.
Michin attempts a Codebreaker, but Tiffany gets her foot on the rope. Tiffany counters Eat Defeat with a cartwheel into an Alabama Slam for a near fall. Attempting another lift, Michin regains her footing, delivering a back heel kick and a Pele Kick for the victory.
Stratton with a moonsault from the second rope for the cover, 1..2..and 3, wins the match.
WINNER: Tiffany Stratton
We see the 2024 Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes in the back.
The music hits and here comes Roman Reigns along with Paul Heyman, Solo, and Jimmy Uso.
The crowd chants for Cody as Roman addresses the accusations from Monday. Roman criticizes Seth Rollins, calling the Universal Title the "Loser Bracket title." He highlights his financial success and asks the crowd if they prefer "Seth money or Tribal Chief money."
Cody interrupts, making his way to the ring after commercial. He requests a private conversation with Roman, who allows Solo, Paul, and Jimmy to leave the ring. Cody acknowledges Roman cheating him last year and expresses his desire for the prestigious title that his father held. Cody asserts he's not challenging Roman at WrestleMania but wants everything, setting his sights on Roman Reigns.
The Rock's music hits, and he enters the ring. Cody exits as Rock and Roman share a tense stare-down in the center, leaving their intentions unclear.
