Warner Bros. Seals Release Date For Joaquin Phoenix's 'Joker 2'
Los Angeles, August 4 - Warner Bros., in the quest of boosting its big event theatrical titles, has sealed the release date of the much-awaited Joker 2, to be directed by Todd Phillips.
The sequel to this DC Comics-based psychological thriller film, titled Joker: Folie à deux, will be hitting theaters on October 4, 2024. Joaquin Phoenix, who scored his first Oscar for his performance in Joker, will be reprising his role as the DC villain.
Interestingly, the original Joker movie also debuted on October 4 in 2019 in North America and went on to gross $1.07 billion at the worldwide box office. The film legged out to $335.4M domestic and globally it is the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. It was also nominated for 11 Oscars and went on to win two of them.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. hasn't officially revealed the title of the sequel despite giving a hint of its being titled, Joker: Folie à deux, which is a French reference for a medical term pertaining to a mental disorder that affects two or more people of a family.
As reportedly previously by The Hollywood Reporter, Lady Gaga is said to be playing Harley Quinn in Joker 2.
As of now, the Joker sequel is on track to start filming in December this year. Todd Phillips recently confirmed that the script of the film has been completed, which he has co-written with Scott Silver.
