Suriya's 'Kanguva' Joins Oscars 2025 Race

Chennai, January 7 - Tamil star Suriya's fantasy action entertainer Kanguva has entered the Oscars 2025 shortlisted film. Directed by Siva, it was one of the most anticipated movies of 2024 but ended up as a massive failure at the box office, grossing a little over 100 crores worldwide. ## Kanguva got heavy criticism from critics and audiences alike but now, it has been included in the Oscars 2025 list among 323 films. The Indian netizens are surprised by this unexpected development, but it is a special achievement which is a source of happiness for the makers amid the gloomy box office performance. ## The Academy has listed 323 films that are eligible for Oscar Awards, to be held on March 3. Out of 323 movies, 207 films are eligible for Best Picture Award. Box Office Disaster 'Kanguva' Sets Streaming Release Date

Chennai, December 7 - Tamil star Suriya's fantasy action drama film Kanguva failed to live up to expectations and turned out to be a big disaster at the box office. Far from the humongous claims, this Siva's directorial ended up under 110 crores gross worldwide as a massive disappointment. ## With not getting much at the box office, the makers have now announced the streaming release date of the film in South Indian versions in the hope of a turnaround. The South Indian versions - Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on December 8. ## The theatrical window of the film is just 21 days which is the lowest for a Pan India movie and an indication of how badly the film performed at the box office. Box Office: 'Kanguva' Snail Past 100 Crore Gross Collection Worldwide

Chennai, November 25 - Tamil star Suriya's most ambitious film Kanguva has crossed 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office. While this could have been a major milestone of any other film of Suriya, the same is not with Kanguva which is facing outright rejection from audiences after a promising yet underwhelming start. ## Directed by Siva, Kanguva was a film keenly awaited by audiences and was seen as a potential big blockbuster at the box office. But all the hype around the film faded immediately after it got a disastrous reception from the moviegoers and critics upon release and there was no relief since then. ## The film crossed 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office on its 10th day. Domestically, Kanguva has grossed approximately 78 crores, including around 32 crores gross in Tamil Nadu. Box Office: 'Kanguva' First Sunday/4th Day Early Estimates

Chennai, November 17 - Kollywood star Suriya's Kanguva has an underwhelming extended opening weekend at the box office, considering the hype and craze it had among the fans before release. The movie scored a good opening but it has been a downfall since then. ## The movie scored a minor jump on Sunday, however, a big jump which was needed after the underwhelming first 3 days, was missing. According to the early estimates, the fantasy action thriller scored an estimated 12-13 crores gross collection in all versions on its 4th day. ## In Tamil Nadu, the movie scored more or less in the similar range as yesterday for an estimated 5.50 crores gross while showing a minor jump in most of the other areas. The total first 4-day weekend collection is around 64 crores gross in India, which is underwhelming. ## The negative word of mouth has affected Kanguva big time during the first weekend and now, a rebound looks difficult from hereon. Actress Jyotika Points Out Targeted Negativity Against Suriya's Kanguva

Chennai, November 17 — Actress Jyothika has called out the targeted negativity towards her husband, actor Suriya. The award-winning actress took to Instagram and shared her thoughts on Suriya's latest movie Kanguva and how it has been made to suffer with hate campaigns by media and certain fraternities. ## While admitting that Kanguva is not a perfect film with some issues, especially in the first half-hour, the actress said it is also not a bad movie that deserves such a high level of negativity. The movie was released on November 14 and was bashed left, right, and centre on social media which has already affected the box office of the film. ## Speaking about the same, Jyotika said in a long note on Instagram, "I'm surprised with the negative reviews from media and certain fraternities, as it's not done by them to this high level for the most unintellectual big budget films I have seen earlier with age-old stories, where women r stalked, double meaning dialogues r spoken and have the most over the top action sequences".## The actor-producer further said that the media intentionally ignored the positive side while reviewing the film and that has made her wonder largely whether one should ever read, listen or believe reviewers after all. ## "It's sad that they chose this much negativity for Kanguva on day 1, even before the first show was over (seemed more like multiple group propagandas) when it actually deserves applause for the concept and effort taken by the team to create 3D and such a magnificent visual", she added.## Directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green, Kanguva opened to record numbers for actor Suriya but dropped heavily in the next 2 days. Chennai, November 16 - Tamil star Suriya's big-budget fantasy action thriller Kanguva failed to score a big jump on its first Saturday which was a must after the underwhelming second day. As expected, the negative word of mouth has started cutting the audience. ## According to the early estimates, on the first Saturday/third day the all-India gross of the movie is almost in the similar range as yesterday with around 11 crores gross. The movie has seen a decent but not enough jump in the home state Tamil Nadu with an estimated around 5 crore gross collection today. ## Kanguva needed a big jump today to cover the lost ground but that didn't happen which shows the movie is facing rejection from the audience. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the movie has seen a drop almost everywhere which is concerning. It is unlikely the movie will see much turnaround on Sunday but a drop will seal the deal. ## The total domestic collection of the film after 3 days is around 51 crores gross which could have been a very good collection of any of Suriya's previous films but can't be said the same about Kanguva which was made on a huge budget.
