COVID-19: Epidemic to hit Delhi box office hard

New Delhi, March 12 (IANS) Irrfan Khan won't be arriving at the big screens in Delhi with 'Angrezi Medium', neither will Akshay Kumar's latest biggie 'Sooryavanshi'. 'Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar' featuring Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor will be affected, too. The impact of restrictions to stem the spread of the coronavirus in the Capital will be felt at the box office as Delhi cinemas will be shut till March 31.## With the Delhi government officially announcing all cinema halls, schools, colleges in Delhi will be shut until March 31 due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the film trade in the city is bound to feel the impact. After the postponement of "Sooryavanshi", the massive shuffle of release dates is expected.## "It is going to put a full stop to the forthcoming releases. Delhi is a huge market. If you look at the business of two releases -- 'Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan' and 'Thappad', they were fantastic in Delhi and NCR. Even otherwise, Delhi-NCR is a huge market," trade analyst Taran Adarsh told IANS.## "The losses will be worth crores. Why would you even want to release when you know that the film will not be released in Delhi? Delhi is a big territory. Producers will now pay attention and think about changing release dates," he added.## The new announcement will ruin box office takings of Irrfan's "Angrezi Medium" (scheduled for March 13) and Parineeti Chopra-Arjun Kapoor's "Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar" (March 20).## "The producers will strongly think to delay the release. I think they will have to defer releases," trade expert Girish Johar told IANS.## According to Johar, shutting down of theatres in Delhi will have a "huge impact to potential revenue".## "Delhi is a very important market. It is one of the topmost cities among revenue earners for Bollywood films across the country. In some cases, Delhi is the number one city among all regions, and sometimes Mumbai is the number one city. Delhi is one of the topmost crucial markets. If Delhi is shutting down theatres, it will have a huge impact on Bollywood's potential revenue," Johar told IANS.## "We also need to keep in mind that overseas, too, we are losing a major chunk right now, with the US under a lockdown, parts of Europe and Australia also under lockdown. All these are big potential markets. Now, Delhi cinemas will also be closed. It will be a big loss," he added.## The fate of the Ranveer Singh-starrer "83" (April 10) is also undecided. Other big films slated in the first quarter include the Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer "Gulabo Sitabo", Varun Dhawan-Sara Ali Khan's "Coolie No.1", Salman Khan's action drama "Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai", Akshay Kumar's "Laxmmi Bomb", "Bunty Aur Babli 2" and Kangana Ranaut's "Thalaivi".## "Haathi Mere Saathi", "Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl", "Roohi Afzana", "Ludo" and "Chehre" are also lined up in the first half.## Talking about the impact, Raj Kumar Mehrotra, general manager at Delite Cinema, told IANS: "Around 10 to 12 films are doing good business in Delhi-NCR right now. Shutting down the halls will affect the business of all these films. By a rough estimate, if halls are asked to shut down till the end of the month, it could even pile up a cumulative loss of around Rs 100 crore in this territory"## Sanjay Suri, who was set to bring the Oscar-nominated drama "Les Miserables" to India on March 13, hopes the situation improves soon.## "We shall wait for the situation to improve and see if a phase-wise release is possible or not when the shutdown is lifted. Safety is most important," Sanjay said in a statement.## On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Indians not to panic, but remain vigilant to keep the coronavirus outbreak at bay. "Say No to Panic, Say Yes to Precautions," the Prime Minister tweeted.## Of the 73 coronavirus cases in India, 17 are foreigners.## For more and latest news about Box Office, stay tuned with us.

Mumbai, March 12 (IANS) Actress Deepika Padukone is married to Ranveer Singh now but there was a time when she went through a lot of stress in her personal life, in a series of early relationships that included Ranbir Kapoor.## In an interview, Deepika recently opened up on the issue. "For me, sex is not just about physicality; there are emotions involved. I have never cheated or strayed when I'm in a relationship. If I'm going to be fooling around, why would I be in a relationship? It's better to be single and have fun. But not everyone thinks like that."## Without mentioning anyone's name, she added: "Maybe that's why I've been hurt in the past. I was foolish enough to give him a second chance because he begged and pleaded, despite the fact that everyone around me said he was still straying. Then I actually caught him red-handed. It took me a while to get out. But having done that, nothing can make me go back. That ship has sailed." 'Guilty' director wants everyone to relate to film

Mumbai, March 10 (IANS) What happens when a person is accused of a sexual assault allegation as severe as rape? Is he being framed or is he really guilty? This is what Ruchi Narain's latest directorial 'Guilty' deals with. ## "It's the story of a sexual assault allegation. The story is set in a college. A girl accuses a guy of sexual assault, of rape. The story is told from the point of view of his girlfriend, played by Kiara Advani. I wanted to tell the story from her point of view because she has to take into account this allegation but at the same time she knows her boyfriend. That's how the whole story turns out," Ruchi told IANS while talking about the movie, which was released on Netflix a while back. ## We often read in newspapers or watch on crime-based TV shows how an innocent person's life gets ruined if he is falsely accused of sexual assault. Does "Guilty" explore that angle? The filmmaker replied: "Honestly, you will have to watch it to find out. Of course, we have explored that angle as well because that is one of the major scares especially for men that they will be falsely accused. But to know the answer whether it is a false allegation or a genuine case of sexual assault, you have to watch the film." ## Ruchi further said that even though the story is set in a college and revolves around young people, there is no fixed age group for the audience and anyone can watch it. ## "I feel anyone can relate to it. The story is set in a college. It's about young people. But these are issues which affect each and every person, be it young or old, man or woman. All of us have dealt with or questioned this kind of things happening around us all the time. Because there are so many points of view in the story, my endeavour is to make everyone relate to it in someway. That's why I have structured it like this," she said. ## The film features Kiara Advani, Akansha Ranjan Kapur, Taher Shabbir and Gurfateh Singh Pirzada in key roles. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

He writes that his father "was a great believer in the benefits that would accrue to a young boy, in terms of disciplined living, physical fitness and right thinking, from being part of the junior cadres of the RSS", reports theprint.in. ## Soman adds that being part of an RSS shakha was "a very Shivaji Park thing" for a young boy to do back then. ## He writes how "baffled" he feels today when he reads of "all the subversive, communal propaganda the media attributes to RSS shakhas". Adding that his memories "of what went on at the shakhas every evening are completely different", Soman recalls how activities included marching in khaki shorts, yoga, games, camping trips, songs and chanting Sanskrit verses "that we did not understand". ## All activities, Soman recalls, were supervised by a "team of mostly-well-meaning if not always inspirational adults who truly believed they were helping raise good 'civilian soldiers'." ## According to theprint.in, Soman recalls that his father had been part of the RSS himself and was a proud Hindu. "I didn't see what there was to be proud about, but on the other hand, I didn't see that there was much to complain about either," he writes in his memoir. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

Director Ahmed Khan hints at Baaghi 4, says 'will keep the franchise alive'

Mumbai, March 9 (IANS) Ahmed Khan is happy with the opening weekend box office performance of his latest directorial 'Baaghi 3'. The film starring Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor has collected 53.83 crores at the domestic box office in its first weekend.## "People loving my work is the most important thing. We were expecting this because even 'Baaghi 2' was taken very well by the audience. So I had an intuition that people will accept Baaghi 3," the filmmaker told IANS.## Khan, who had also directed "Baaghi 2", gives credit to the film's action quotient and lead actor Tiger Shroff's popularity for the franchise's success. "One (the reason for success) is definitely Tiger Shroff's fan following, and the other is the film's action, which merges with the story. The credit surely goes to Tiger Shroff. This is because even though other heroes can perform an action, he is trained very well to do this kind of action," said the filmmaker.## Khan simply cannot get over gushing about his lead actor, it seems. "It reduces 80 percent of the stress when it comes to conceiving any action (around Tiger Shroff). The most important thing is conceiving it and the double hard work goes into executing it. If you have a guy who can execute it for you, life becomes easy."## Tuesday being a National Holiday for Holi would seem like a boost for the film's business, but there is the scare of coronavirus to be taken into consideration. At the last count, 43 cases have been reported in India and entertainment is seriously not the priority in the average public's life.## Khan, however, hopes the virus scare will not affect either Holi or his film. "I'd prefer that people come to the theaters being safe. Holi is there but there are so many issues going on with the virus. With so many issues around, not just our film, I feel the festival should also be celebrated well. People should enjoy both the things, the festival, and our film," he said.## With the consistent good show of the franchise, is "Baaghi 4" a possibility in the future? "The owner of the film is Sajid Nadiadwala. If he decides that we should go ahead with 'Baaghi 4', we will do it. But we will keep the franchise alive definitely," concluded the director.## For more and latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned with us.
