Japanese Movie 'Jujutsu Kaisen 0' Set To Surprise At The Indian Box Office

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, June 29 - In a major surprise, the Japanese animated dark fantasy film "Jujutsu Kaisen 0" is having a good advance booking at the Indian box office. The movie will be released in the original Japanese language on Thursday (June 30) in the 2D, IMAX 2D, and 4DX formats. ## Based on the manga series Jujutsu Kaisen 0, "Jujutsu Kaisen 0" has already sold over 17K tickets at the national multiplex chains in India, which is very good considering the movie is having a limited release and that too in the original language. Such good advance booking of the movie also becomes very good knowing the fact that Japanese movies haven't had a great history at the Indian box office. ## Directed by Sunghoo Park, the movie is a prequel to the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series. It was originally released on December 24, 2021, in Japan before the international rollout. It has grossed over $161 million worldwide (according to Box Office Mojo), including $108 million at the Japanese box office. ## The movie follows Yuta Okkotsu, a young student who becomes a sorcerer and seeks to control the cursed spirit of his childhood friend Rika Orimoto in Jujutsu High alongside other skilled mates. Besides the story focused on Yuta and his friends, the staff decided to expand the narrative from the original manga by adding new scenes focused on their mentor Satoru Gojo and his old friend and enemy Suguru Geto.## Stay tuned...

Seoul, June 12 - South Korean action comedy film, "The Roundup" has become the first movie to sell 10 million tickets in the country since "Frozen 2" in 2019, according to the Korean Film Council. ## The sequel to the 2017 hit movie "The Outlaws", the movie hit the 10 million milestones on its 25th day at the box office. Released on May 18, "The Roundup" scored 10.29 million admissions by Saturday, becoming only the 28th film in South Korean history to achieve the feat. ## Directed by Lee Sang-yong, "The Roundup" is the first South Korean film to achieve the feat after Bong Joon-ho's Oscar-winning black comedy "Parasite," which reached the 10-million milestone in July 2019. It is also the highest-grossing South Korean movie of 2022 with USD 83+ million.## During the covid-19 pandemic, Marvel/Sony's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" scored the highest admissions in Korea with 7.5 million. Hitting 10 million footfalls in South Korea is considered a huge success knowing the fact that the population of the country is little over 50 million. ## "The Roundup" tells the story of Detective Ma Seok-do (Ma Dong-seok), who heads to Vietnam to extradite a suspect only to find out about additional murder cases involving an unknown killer who has committed crimes against tourists for many years.## Stay tuned...

Ukrainian Film Academy Urges For International Boycott Of Russian Cinema After Invasion

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, February 27 - Following Russia's military invasion of Ukraine earlier this week, the Ukrainian Film Academy, the national group representing the country's film professionals, has urged the international authorities to boycott Russian cinema and the Russian film industry. ## According to The Hollywood Reporter, an online petition has been filed in which Academy has called on producers to stop licensing Russian movies and series, for international festivals to ban Russian films from their line-ups and for international producers to terminate any business dealings with Russian companies.## "Several films made by Russia are regularly admitted to the programs of most world film festivals, and significant resources are spent on their promotion", the petition by Ukrainian Academy reads (via THR). "We urge you to terminate all contracts with them. Remember that the business that will use your films pays taxes to the Russian budget, which finances the army that violated the borders of an independent state and buys missiles to bomb the civilian population of Europe", the statement reads.## Specifically, the Academy is calling on producers and license holders, which include Hollywood studios, to "terminate any business with business entities of the Russian Federation and not to transfer intellectual property rights to any films to the territory of the Russian Federation".## Meanwhile, there have already been cultural sanctions on Russia, with the European Broadcasting Union on Friday banning Russia from participating in its hugely-popular Eurovision Song Contest in the wake of the Ukraine invasion, besides other economical sanctions by Western governments, including the U.S., European Union, the U.K. and Canada. ## Stay tuned...
