Parasakthi Based on true events, the story revolves around the anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu that happened in 1965. Initially, Sudha and Suriya were set to collaborate after Soorarai Pottru (2020). Announced in October 2023, Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Nazim and Vijay Varma were on board in the lead roles, tentatively titled Suriya 43. Due to unknown reasons, however, the film was shelved. Sudha then revived the script with Sivakarthikeyan and the new cast. The revived film was announced in December 2024 under the tentative title SK25, as it is the actor's 25th film as a lead actor, and the official title was announced the following month.

Parasakthi Box Office: Sivakarthikeyan's Political Action Drama Headed To Finish Below Madharasi

Chennai, January 21 - Sivakarthikeyan's much-anticipated political action drama Parasakthi is facing a tough run at the box office as its momentum continues to slow down during the working weekdays. Despite a respectable opening period, the film has struggled to sustain footfalls, with collections witnessing a steady decline across domestic markets. Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi has grossed around 82 crore worldwide so far, and the daily numbers have dropped significantly, indicating that the film is nearing the end of its theatrical run. Mixed word of mouth has impacted its box office prospects, especially when compared to Sivakarthikeyan's recent successful outings. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Last year's Madharasi ended its run as an average grosser, despite huge expectations. The movie, however, still managed to clock almost 100 crores gross worldwide as it closed its theatrical run with 98.75 crores. Parasakthi, on the other hand, may struggle to even cross the actor's last release. Given the current trend, it looks extremely challenging for Parasakthi to reach or surpass Madharasi's worldwide total. Unless the film witnesses an unexpected surge in collections, it is likely to conclude its theatrical journey below the 100 crore mark, making Madharasi the better-performing Sivakarthikeyan film at the box office among the two. Mana shankaraVaraprasad Garu Leads Ticket Sales with Mammoth Opening; Dhurandhar's Day 38 Hold Continues to Amaze

The latest 24-hour ticket sales data from BookMyShow provides a clear picture of the current box office hierarchy, highlighting a massive new opening, the incredible staying power of an all-time blockbuster, and the struggles of underperforming films. The new release, ManashankarVaraprasad, has expectedly taken the box office by storm, while the veteran Dhurandhar continues to post phenomenal numbers deep into its theatrical run. The biggest story from the latest trends is the sensational start for ManashankarVaraprasad Garu, which has translated its massive pre-release buzz into phenomenal box office numbers. The colossal sale of 488K tickets on BookMyShow perfectly foreshadowed the bumper opening. As per the official figures, its Day 1 India Net collection (including premieres) stands at a spectacular ₹37.1 Cr. This translates to a phenomenal India Gross of ₹50 Cr. The film has also stormed the international box office, kicking off its run with an impressive ₹21 Cr from overseas markets. This has propelled its total worldwide gross on its opening day to a staggering ₹71 Cr, setting the stage for one of the biggest opening weekends of the year. The film is clearly the undisputed top choice for moviegoers. In what can only be described as a historic feat, Dhurandhar continues to be a box office force even on its 38th day (D38). The film sold an astonishing 43.5K tickets in the last 24 hours, a figure that is higher than some films in their opening weekend. This demonstrates the film's unprecedented hold and cements its status as a true history-maker. With its worldwide gross already past ₹1259.5 Cr and its India Net collection soaring above ₹808 Cr, this continued audience interest ensures its record-breaking run is far from over. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   Among the other films, the performance of the Prabhas-starrer The Raja Saab is a major cause for concern. On its crucial first Monday (D4), the film managed to sell only 82.2K tickets. For a film of this massive scale and star power, such a figure indicates a very poor hold after the opening weekend and suggests it has failed to meet the colossal expectations. This trend points towards a significant underperformance. In comparison, Parasakthi has had a very weak run, with ticket sales at a low 38.4K on its third day (D3).Meanwhile, SarvamMaya is putting up a respectable fight in its own league, selling a steady 28.2K tickets on its 18th day. Parasakthi Box Office: Sivakarthikeyan's Political Drama Secures a Solid Start

Directed by the acclaimed Sudha Kongara, the highly anticipated Tamil historical political drama Parasakthi made its theatrical debut yesterday, January 10, 2026.The film arrived amidst high expectations and significant pre-release buzz, particularly as it marks a departure from lead actor Sivakarthikeyan's usual commercial roles into a more intense, content-driven narrative.Despite facing last-minute hurdles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and concerns regarding a crowded January release window, the movie has managed to capture the audience's attention across the state. According to early estimates, Parasakthi has collected approximately ₹12.35 crore India Net and ₹14.75 crore India Gross on its opening day, while the overseas collection is around 10 crore. It is important to note that these figures are based on initial tracking and early estimates; the final figures may vary slightly as official data from all territories is consolidated. The film recorded an impressive overall Tamil occupancy of around 62.79% on Saturday, with night shows peaking at nearly 79%, indicating strong word-of-mouth that could propel the film through the rest of the Pongal week. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   The film features a stellar ensemble cast, including Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role of Chezhiyan and Ravi Mohan (Jayam Ravi) as Thirunaadan. It also marks the highly anticipated Tamil debut of actress Sreeleela, who plays Rathnamala. The cast is further bolstered by Atharvaa Murali, Rana Daggubati and Basil Joseph in a cameo role, and a host of veteran actors like Prakash Belawadi and Guru Somasundaram.Set against the turbulent backdrop of the 1960s anti-Hindi imposition agitations in Madras State, the story explores the personal and political struggles of two brothers during a defining chapter of Tamil Nadu's history. Produced by Aakash Baskaran of Dawn Pictures, the film boasts high production values with music composed by G. V.Prakash Kumar and cinematography by the veteran Ravi K. Chandran. Parasakthi benefited significantly from a solo release window following the postponement of Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan, allowing it to secure extensive screen space across Tamil Nadu. While critics have offered mixed reviews regarding its pacing, the performances and the authentic recreation of the 1960s era have been widely praised, setting the stage for a competitive box office run in the coming days.

Vijay's Jana Nayagan Postponed: A Big Advantage For Sivakarthikeyan-Starrer Parasakthi

Chennai, January 7 - Thalapathy Vijay's much-anticipated political action drama Jana Nayagan has officially been postponed, and the development could turn out to be a massive advantage for Sivakarthikeyan's upcoming film Parasakthi, which is scheduled to release on January 10 amid solid buzz. Over the past few days, multiple reports have suggested that Jana Nayagan might miss its planned release date due to ongoing censorship issues. After CBFC failed to provide a certificate with only a day left before release, the makers approached the Madras High Court, which has reserved its order, which will only be pronounced on January 9, on the same day as Jana Nayagan is scheduled for release. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) With Jana Nayagan getting postponed, Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi, which is also facing censor delay, stands to benefit the most. The film has already created history with its trailer, which emerged as the most-viewed Tamil trailer in the first 24 hours, beating Jana Nayagan's earlier record. This strong digital response clearly indicates massive audience interest. With no major Vijay release around the same window, Parasakthi could enjoy a cleaner box office run, especially in Tamil Nadu, where clashes between top stars often split screens and footfalls. A Vijay film typically dominates theatres with maximum screen allocation and show counts. In the absence of Jana Nayagan, Parasakthi will now secure much better screen penetration across Tamil Nadu. Sivakarthikeyan has been steadily consolidating his position as a bankable star, and Parasakthi appears to be another crucial step in that journey. With mounting hype, record-breaking trailer views, and now a possible clash-free release window, especially in Tamil Nadu, the film is shaping up to be one of the biggest Tamil releases of the year. To keep the narrative tight and engaging, the film has been locked with a crisp runtime of 2 hours and 35 minutes (155 minutes), a duration considered ideal for a high octane political drama. Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi Wraps Up: Sudha Kongara’s Political Epic Set for a Pongal 2026 Clash with Vijay’s Jana Nayagan

The highly anticipated Tamil film Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara and starring Sivakarthikeyan, Jayam Ravi, and Atharvaa, has officially wrapped production and is gearing up for a grand Pongal release on January 14, 2026. The announcement came through the team’s latest post on X, confirming that the film has completed its shoot and entered the final phase of post-production. Produced by Dawn Pictures and distributed by Red Giant Movies, Parasakthi is a large-scale political period drama set against the backdrop of the 1965 anti-Hindi imposition agitations in Tamil Nadu. Sivakarthikeyan plays a revolutionary student leader, while Atharvaa takes on the role of a fiery activist, and Jayam Ravi is rumoured to appear as the antagonist, with Sreeleela making her Tamil debut. Backed by an impressive technical crew featuring G. V. Prakash Kumar—marking his 100th film as a music composer—Ravi K. Chandran on cinematography, and Sathish Suriya handling editing, the film promises a compelling blend of social relevance and mass appeal. Shot across locations such as Madurai, Pollachi, and parts of Sri Lanka, the film is said to have been made on a speculative budget estimated between ₹150–250 crore, making it one of the most ambitious Tamil productions of 2026.The Pongal window will witness a major box-office face-off as Parasakthi goes head-to-head with Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth and releasing just days earlier. Both films carry strong political undercurrents—Parasakthi rooted in historical rebellion, and Jana Nayagan exploring modern-day politics—setting the stage for one of Tamil cinema’s biggest festival face-offs.While Vijay’s pan-Indian star power gives Jana Nayagan an early edge, Parasakthi’s stellar lineup, guided by Sudha Kongara’s direction and elevated by G. V. Prakash’s milestone soundtrack, makes it a formidable contender. With such a high-profile festive clash on the horizon, it’s insightful to look at the recent box-office performances of the leading actors to gauge the potential stakes for Parasakthi. It’s worth looking back at the previous releases of the two leading actors to understand the stakes: Vijay’s Leo (2023) emerged as a mammoth commercial success, reporting a worldwide gross of around ₹605.9 crore, including an overseas haul of about ₹204 crore. Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan’s Madharaasi (2025) opened to good initial buzz but with more modest results: it collected approximately ₹98.75 crore worldwide (including about ₹25 crore overseas) Given this backdrop, Parasakthi appears to be stepping into a high-stakes arena. While Vijay’s Leo sets a very high benchmark, Sivakarthikeyan’s Madharaasi shows that although there is strong potential, sustaining performance is key. For Parasakthi, the challenge is dual: to out-perform Sivakarthikeyan’s own recent benchmark and to hold ground against the lingering aura of Vijay’s blockbuster success. The competition is real — and the festival release adds further pressure. If Parasakthi wants to emerge not just as a hit but as a defining film of the season, it will need strong word-of-mouth, robust box-office momentum and favorable timing to overcome both past performance pressure and existing star-driven precedents. All eyes are now on Pongal 2026, as two of the industry’s most awaited films prepare for a high-voltage cinematic showdown.

Chennai, September 12 - The Tamil cinema is bracing up for a major box office showdown on Pongal 2026 after Sivakarthikeyan's much-awaited period political drama film Parashakti confirms indirect clash with Thalapathy Vijay's swan song Jana Nayagan. Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parashakti is reportedly based on true events, revolving around the Anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu that happened in 1965. On Friday (September 12), the makers announced that this much-awaited movie will be hitting worldwide cinemas on January 14, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival.
