While the film has been widely reported as a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Sankranthiki Vasthunam, Bazmee clarified that the team has focused on a re-imagined narrative tailored for the national audience. Speaking on the project's progress, the filmmaker expressed confidence, stating, All I can say is that hamari film acchi hai.Mehnat poori ki hai humne Anees Bazmee further provided the first official look at the film's powerhouse ensemble, confirming a mix of seasoned veterans and popular fresh talent. The director stated, The film stars Akshay ji, Vidya ji, Raashii Khanna, Vijay Raaz, Zakir Hussain, Sayaji Shinde and others. This announcement has sent waves of excitement through the industry, primarily because it marks the return of the legendary Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan pairing. The duo shares a prolific history at the box office, having previously delivered several major hits. After appearing together in Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Heyy Babyy in 2007, they reunited for Thank You in 2011 and most recently for the 2019 blockbuster Mission Mangal.Notably, Anees Bazmee himself previously directed the pair in the 2011 comedy Thank You, making this project a significant full-circle moment for the trio.Produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations, the film is expected to begin its primary filming schedule immediately. The original Telugu film, which featured Venkatesh Daggubati and was directed by Anil Ravipudi, emerged as a massive success during the 2025 Sankranthi season. Known for its blend of high-stakes action and signature Ravipudi comedy, the film is considered a perfect fit for Akshay Kumar's versatile screen presence. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   Akshay Kumar has a remarkably prolific slate lined up for 2026 and 2027, focusing heavily on successful franchises and high-energy entertainers. One of the biggest highlights is the superstar returning to his iconic comedy roots with Welcome To The Jungle and the long-awaited Hera Pheri 3, both of which are expected to be major crowd-pullers. Beyond franchises, Akshay is expanding his portfolio with diverse collaborations. He is teaming up with director Priyadarshan after a long hiatus for the horror-comedy Bhoot Bangla, aiming to recreate the magic of their previous hits.By balancing these large-scale original films with proven franchise sequels and successful South Indian remakes, Akshay Kumar is positioning himself for a massive theatrical comeback. With music director Bheems Cecirolio and producer Dil Raju backing his latest venture, the upcoming years are set to be a busy and decisive period for the star's box office trajectory. The move by Akshay Kumar to return to the remake genre follows a period of experimentation with original scripts. Trade analysts suggest that a commercial entertainer like Sankranthiki Vasthunam could provide the box office pull required for the star in the current theatrical climate. With Dil Raju's production expertise and Bheems Cecirolio's mass-oriented music, the project is already being positioned as a strong contender for a 2027 holiday release. As of now, an official announcement regarding the title and the rest of the ensemble cast for the Akshay Kumar starrer is expected from the makers in the coming weeks

2025's Surprise Hits:The films that exceeded all box office expectations

A film's box office performance can often be unpredictable. Every year, there are movies that are expected to do huge business, and then there are some which are not expected to draw big crowds to the theaters. Out of these, a few manage to connect with the audience and become unexpected hits. The year 2025 was no different and had its own share of such surprise hits. Let's take a look at the films that surprised everyone this year. Released on July 18, this romantic drama starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda was expected to be a modest success at best. However, its soundtrack became a viral rage on social media weeks before release. The film opened strong at over ₹21 crore but, powered by incredible word-of-mouth from the youth, it showed historic growth, eventually storming past the ₹500 crore mark. It became a cultural phenomenon, proving that a well-made musical love story could still create magic. Some films were expected to be hits, but no one predicted the scale of their success. Vicky Kaushal's historical epic Chhaava, which hit theaters on February 14, was mounted on a massive budget. While a hit was expected, the film's powerful storytelling and patriotic fervor connected so deeply that it went on to gross a colossal ₹850 crore, surprising the trade with its monumental success. Similarly, the pan-India action film Lokah Chapter 1 released on August 28 was a new franchise. It was expected to do well, but its gripping screenplay and stunning action sequences turned it into a monster hit, earning over ₹300 crore and establishing a new cinematic universe. The story of 2025 was also written by regional cinema. The Telugu family entertainer Sankranthiki Vasthunam (January 14) was a festive release that was expected to do well in its home state. However, its heartwarming theme resonated so widely that it became a blockbuster, earning over ₹200 crore. The Tamil industry delivered a string of surprises. Dragon, a Romantic Drama starring Pradeep Ranganathan and directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, also punched far above its weight. Its unique concept was a huge draw for young audiences, turning it into a super hit.The quirky comedy Thalaivan Thalaivi connected well with viewers, while the sports drama Bison Kaalamaadan also had a solid run at the box office, turning into a profitable venture. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The Malayalam film Thudarum, a gripping thriller released on April 25, started quietly but became a huge success thanks to rave reviews about its edge-of-the-seat story. Eko also made waves, proving that a strong local story could find a large and appreciative audience, making it one of the region's most successful films. The critically acclaimed drama Rekhachithram became a super-hit thanks to rave reviews. Other films also surprised the audience. The courtroom drama Court: State vs. A Nobody, made on a small budget of just ₹5 crore, became a word-of-mouth success due to its gripping plot. The mythological fantasy Dashavatar also found its audience, becoming another unexpected hit of the year. The success of regional cinema continued across the country. The Assamese film Roi Roi Binale was an emotional event that broke all local records, while the Odia horror-comedy Bou Buttu Bhuta and the Gujarathi drama Umbarro also became major successes in their respective states.

Akshay Kumar Team Up With Top South Producer For Telugu Blockbuster Sankranthiki Vasthunam's Hindi Remake

Mumbai, October 13 - One of the biggest Telugu blockbusters of the year, Sankranthiki Vasthunam, is reportedly getting ready to be remade in Hindi with superstar Akshay Kumar. Originally directed by Anil Ravipudi and starring Venkatesh Daggubati, the action comedy was released in January 2025 and went on to gross over 250 crores worldwide. According to the recent reports, producer Dil Raju, who backed the original film, will be producing the Hindi remake. He has reportedly locked Anees Bazmee to direct the remake, marking the filmmaker's reunion with Akshay after 17 years, since the release of Singh Is Kinng (2008). (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Since the news came out, multiple reports stated that Bazmee and Akshay are indeed reuniting, but they dismissed that it will be a remake of the Telugu blockbuster. According to Bollywood Hungama, the duo's next project is a reimagined version of Venkatesh-led Sankranthiki Vasthunam. The Bollywood superstar will play the lead role, originally played by Venkatesh Daggubati. It is said that Anees and Akshay loved the plot of the lead character stuck between his wife and ex-girlfriend that Sankranthiki Vasthunam rides on. Discussions are ongoing to finalise the two female leads, along with other cast and crew members. It is an interesting as well as a risky choice of Akshay Kumar to do a remake, at a time when franchise and remake films are struggling at the box office. However, with big names attached to it, the Hindi version may strike gold if executed well, keeping the sensibility of the Hindi audiences. Stay tuned...

Pawan Kalyan's They Call Him OG Overtakes Sankranthiki Vasthunam To Emerge As 2025's Top Telugu Grosser

Hyderabad, October 1 - Power star Pawan Kalyan's gangster action drama They Call Him OG continues its decent run at the worldwide box office after the good opening weekend. Having already become the biggest and first 200 crores gross of the Telugu superstar, Sujeeth's directorial has now shattered a record for Telugu cinema this year. On its first Wednesday (7th day), They Call Him OG officially surpassed the collections of Venkatesh Daggubati's Sankranthiki Vasthunam (255.20 crores), making it the highest-grossing Telugu film of the year at the worldwide box office. The achievement further strengthens Pawan Kalyan's dominance at the box office with this film, which has easily been his most hyped in recent times. They Call Him OG opened to record-breaking numbers and sustained decently since that, drawing audiences across both domestic and overseas markets. The film's strong storyline, coupled with Pawan Kalyan’s charismatic performance and Sujeeth’s stylish direction, has helped it maintain momentum on a decent level. This consistency has now placed it at the very top of the Telugu box office for 2025, a spot previously held by the Sankranthi blockbuster Sankranthiki Vasthunam. They Call Him OG has not only redefined expectations for Telugu cinema this year but also added another feather to Pawan Kalyan’s illustrious career. It is quite stunning that despite carrying massive star power, Pawan Kalyan had never touched the 200 crores mark before. They Call Him OG has not only breached that milestone, but is also likely to end the year as the biggest Telugu grosser of the year, unless new films surprise. Stay tuned...
