Los Angeles, October 3 - Marvel comic book movies are proving why they are the king of the box office. After "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings", and "Black Widow", two highest-grossing movies at the North America box office during the pandemic respectively, another comic book movie, "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" has gone nuts at the box office, shattering domestic box office record of the pandemic era. ## The Tom Hardy starrer, after taking an opening of $37.3 million including $11.6 million Thursday previews, concluded the 3-day opening weekend with $90.1 million, setting a new pandemic record at the North America box office. The movie tops "Black Widow's $80.4 million 3-day weekend debut. Sony had projected just $40 million in the first three days, which is far behind from actual collection.## The Venom sequel also topped its predecessor, 2018's "Venom", which grossed $80.3 million in the first three days, in the era of no covid-19 pandemic. "Venom" had grossed $855 million worldwide including $213 million in North America, despite the bad reviews. Venom sequel doesn't have a release date yet in China, where 2018's film had made $270 million. ## "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" opened massive in its first overseas market Russia with an estimated $14 million in the opening weekend, which is Sony's biggest opening of all time in that market, and the best of any film during the pandemic. An exclusive theatrical release of the film is benefitting its overall box office collection. ## "We are also pleased that patience and theatrical exclusivity have been rewarded with record results", Sony's chairman Tom Rothman said in a statement to the press. "With apologies to Mr. Twain: The death of movies has been greatly exaggerated".## In August, Sony pushed Venom 2 from September 24 to October 15 amid uncertainty over theatergoing and the delta variant. Los Angeles, October 1 - It was an excellent start for Sony's "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" at the box office. The Tom Hardy-fronted clocks in an impressive $11.6 million on Thursday from showtimes that began at 4 PM at 3,500 theaters. This is the second-best opening during the pandemic for a Hollywood pic after Marvel Studios' "Black Widow" which grossed $13.2M on Thursday night. ## The Thursday preview haul of "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" is $1.6 million higher than "Venom's" (2018) $10 million. Venom went on to score $80 million in the opening weekend, including $32.5M on the first day at the domestic box office. ## Marvel Studios' "Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings" has the third-best Thursday opening during the covid-19 pandemic with $8.8 million followed by Universal Pictures' "Fast & Furious 9" (F9) which did $7.1M. "Venom 2" might surpass "F9's" opening weekend total of $70 million. ## Sony has told the media that they're comping the sequel to Emily Blunt starrer horror thriller "A Quiet Place Part II" which did $47.5M over its 3 days of Memorial Day weekend, however, other tracking services and even major exhibitors' own internal projections have Venom 2 over $60M, which is looking quite possible at the moment.## The Andy Serkis-directed currently has Rotten Tomatoes review rating of 58% Rotten, which is higher than 2018's first installment of 30% Rotten. It is the second film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe and the standalone sequel to the blockbuster "Venom" (2018). ## In "Venom: Let There Be Carnage", Eddie Brock tries to reignite his career in journalism by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), who becomes the host of the alien symbiote spawn of Venom, named Carnage. The film studio has announced that it will release over 17 films in the next 12 months in India. These films include blockbuster Hollywood movies as well as Indian films. ## "Sony Pictures Films India (SPFI) is all set to redefine blockbuster entertainment with over 17 fresh releases slated for the next 12 months. Los Angeles, September 15, 2021: Sony Pictures' "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" is all set to debut in theaters in the next couple of weeks and fans will get to watch two of Spider-Man's most legendary villains go toe to toe. However, despite being connected with each other, at least in Comic books, Venom 2 won't feature Spider-Man. ## The fact that Sony has built a new Spider-Man movie franchise with Marvel Studios as well as a Venom movie franchise under its own roof. This may look like that a Spider-Man and a Venom crossover can happen anytime, like all the marvel movies. But this isn't that easy as again, the fact, Venom isn't an official part of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)" like Spider-Man. ## Because Venom isn't a part of MCU despite being connected to Spider-Man, has kept fans guessing whether or not there will be an official crossover between Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Tom Hardy's Venom. Well, it is not happening anytime soon but a future crossover is definitely on the cards, as Venom director Andy Serkis said. ## In a new interview, "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" director Andy Serkis addresses the question of a Spider-Man and Venom crossover and confirms that yes it will happen, but "when" is the question. "Look, that's the question on everyone's lips", Serkis told IGN (via comicbook). "They want to know if Venom is gonna meet Spider-Man, but personally, it's never gonna happen. I'm only joking, of course, it's gonna happen". ## While a Spider-Man and a Venom crossover is inevitable, Andy Serkis adds the important contextual note that to reach that stage, the most-awaited crossover, one will have to wait because by rushing to get there, fans could miss out on the potentially richer journey in between. ## "Look, it depends when you want to get there, and also, what the appetite is", Serkis explains. "If people want more Venom stories, then, to jump straight to Spider-Man, you could be missing out on so many great supervillain characters in between now and then. After the historic deal with Netflix earlier this month, Sony Pictures has now inked another landmark deal with Disney, which will allow the platform to stream Sony's films on its streaming and TV platforms. ## The new deal, which will cover Sony's entire theatrical slate from 2022-26, will bring the films to Disney-owned streaming services Disney+ and Hulu, as well as to Disney's linear TV networks, including ABC, Disney Channels, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic.## However, as per Sony's earlier deal, Netflix will have the right to stream Sony pictures first after they completed their theatrical run. The leading streaming giant, Netflix has grabbed gold by signing a new multiyear deal with Sony Pictures. According to the contract, Netflix will be the first to stream Sony Feature Films beginning from 2022 after they complete their theatrical run in the USA. These films include Uncharted, Morbius, Bullet Train & Where The Crawdads Sing, along with future sequels to Venom, Jumanji, Bad Boys & Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse.## Sony Pictures' primary pay-TV partner has been Starz, now owned by Lionsgate, since 2006. The new theatrical output deal with Netflix is believed to run about five years and is said to have worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the studio over the term. Industry sources said (according to Variety) Sony executives are working on another significant theatrical movie licensing pact outside the Netflix agreement.## Netflix is an obvious first pay window choice for Sony, given that the company already has a deal for its animated releases with Netflix. But the new deal is far more comprehensive and will see Sony's theatrical films from its Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Classics, Screen Gems, and TriStar Pictures studios all head to Netflix after completing their theatrical run. ## Starting in 2022, Netflix will be the first US streaming home for Sony Pictures films following their theatrical releases.
