Sunrisers Hyderabad fixed a date with Chennai Super Kings in the final of VIVO IPL 2018 after they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 13 runs in the second qualifier at historic Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Friday (May 25). It was Rashid Khan again who snatched the win from KKR's hand. First with the bat (34* off 10 balls) and later with his magical hands.## In this all-important qualifier, KKR put SRH to bat first. SRH, despite suffering middle-order collapse, put 174 on the board. Thanks to Rashid Khan's blitzing knock. In reply, KKR off to a flying start and scored 67 in first 6 overs. But once Rashid came into the attack he pulled KKR on the back foot by picking Uthappa, Lynn, and Russell. They could not recover from this and manage only 160 for 9 after 20 overs.## Kuldeep ruined SRH's solid start## After putting to bat first, SRH started off well. Shikhar Dhawan and Wriddhiman Saha added 56 for the first wicket before Kuldeep Yadav brought into the attack and dismissed Dhawan on his first ball and three balls later, skipper Kane Williamson became his second victim in that over. Dhawan scored 34 off 24 balls while Williamson could manage only 3 off 3 balls. Saha and Shakib Al Hasan tried to recover but this time Piyush Chawla did damage to SRH by picking Saha. Saha tried to step down but missed the completely as Dinesh Karthik did the rest behind stumps.## However, Shakib and Deepak Hooda tried to bring back SRH into the game by adding 29 for the 4th wicket. But once Shakib (28 off 24 balls) got out on 113, SRH lose their way and reduced to 138 for 8 after 18.1 over.## Rashid came to rescue with a blitzing knock## When Rashid came to bat, SRH were 134 after 17.5 overs. He started his inning with a four to Prasidh Krishna and followed with two sixes to Shivam Mavi in 19th over. He didn't stop there as he hammered two sixes and a four to Prasidh in last over and gave SRH a very good total to defend.## Kuldeep Yadav and Sunil Narine were the stars with the ball. Yadav who conceded 29 runs in 4 overs and picked two wickets while Narine finished with 1 for 24 in his 4 overs of spell.## Narine, Lynn started in fifth gear## In reply of 175, Narine and Chris Lynn gave KKR a flying start. Narine played the way he had been playing in this IPL. Scored 26 off 13 balls before Siddarth Kaul got him. However, Lynn didn't affect from Narine's wicket and kept playing his shots. Nitish Rana also joined the party with Lynn and hit 2 sixes to Khaleel Ahmad, who was playing his first match of the IPL 2018. Both took KKR to 87 before Nitish Rana got run out after scoring 22 off 16 balls.## Rashid, Shakib scripts KKR's middle order collapsed## KKR's middle order completely demolished by Rashid and Shakib. First Uthappa, who tried to reverse sweep against Rashid but missed out completely as the ball hit to the stumps. Skipper Karthik this time could not anything for his team as he was bowled out by Shakib in trying to cut the ball. Two balls later Rashid grabbed big fish as Lynn got out LBW. He made 48 off 36 balls.## Now, Andre Russell remained the only hope for KKR but he was caught out in slip by Shikhar Dhawan off Rashid Khan. With the wicket of Russell, KKR almost had lost the match.## Gill kept KKR in the hunt but SRH came out on top## When KKR lost all their hopes of winning this game, Shubhman Gill kept them in the race till the last over. But his innings was cut short by great bowling from SRH. It was not easy for Faf du Plessis to came out to bat and play a match-winning knock after having played only five games out of 14 in this season of Indian Premier League. But it was such his class which single-handedly took Chennai Super Kings through to their 7th IPL final, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday (May 22).## Du Plessis was up against arguably the best bowling attack of this IPL and that made his knock even more special. He came out as an opener and show his partners on the other end kept losing their wickets at regular space. He found a partner in Shardul Thakur who played a short bat valuable innings along with him.## With 43 required in 18 balls, first, du Plessis with 20 runs to Brathwaite in 18th over and after that Thakur with 17 runs to Siddarth Kaul seal the deal for CSK. With six required in last over, du Plessis hit a six on the first ball and finished the game with five balls to spare. Du Plessis was also awarded Man Of The Match for his heroic knock of 67* off 42 balls.## "It's nice to make a contribution tonight. Haven't played much. Last night when I was preparing, I reflected on the games I have played here in Mumbai. It is a stadium I have enjoyed playing. Took confidence from that. I just got in the change room now and said, how did we win that game. It felt just a little out of reach. It was great that guys came in and hit a few boundaries in the end. Everything went our way towards the end on a wicket which wasn't easy to bat on"## "Rashid Khan was a handful on that wicket. He was really really tough to play on that wicket and he bowls quickly. He(Faf) was set. I kept saying to the coaches that I can bat. Last year I got out twice while playing for Pune when I had an opportunity. This time I ensured I finished the game. Chennai Super Kings becomes the first team to reach into the final of the VIVO IPL 2018 after Faf du Plessis stunning 67* off 42 balls helped his team to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 2 wickets in the first qualifier at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday (May 22).## Sunrisers Hyderabad posts 139 on the board after putting to bat first. Thanks to Carlos Brathwaite's late blitz of 43* off 29 balls. In reply, CSK were struggling on 62 for 6 before du Plessis pulled out a stunning show and won it almost single handily for his team.## SRH off to a miserable start## After putting to bat first, Sunrisers lost Shikhar Dhawan on the very first ball of the innings. Deepak Chahar's inswinging got Dhawan out. However, Kane Williamson hit three back to back fours in first over and tried to give momentum to SRH innings. When they were looking to build a partnership Lungi Nagidi dismissed Goswami before Shardul Thakur trapped big fish in back to back overs. Williamson scored 24 off 15. After that, they kept losing wickets in regular space and at one stage they reduced to 88 for 6 after 15 overs.## Brathwaite's late assault kept SRH in the hunt## After losing 6 wickets on 88, Carlos Brathwaite took responsibility on his own shoulders and hammered 43 off 29 balls including one four and 4 sixes. They have now 16 points in 14 matches and likely to remain on 3rd spot. On the other hand, SRH will finish on the top spot despite losing their last three games.## The Dhawan-Goswami show## SRH, after winning the toss had opted to bat first. Alex Hales had dropped from this match and therefore Shreevats Goswami came out to open with Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan (50) and Goswami (35) put KKR under pressure with a 79-run opening stand for the first wicket. Skipper Kane Williamson's 81 off 42 balls and Manish Pandey's 62 off 38 balls went in vain as Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 14-runs in yet another run-feast contest at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on Thursday(May 17). This game was supposed to be a battle between bat and ball but it turned around between RCB and SRH. With this win, RCB boosted their chances to qualify for the playoffs.## The AB de Villiers and Moeen Ali show## Chinnaswamy crowd were on their feet when AB de Villiers walkout to the park. After losing the wicket of Virat Kohli, de Villiers had a huge responsibility to take RCB to a safe total. He did not take too much time to kickstart his innings. He hit his first boundary to Shakib Al Hasan behind point before lofting one over extra cover. The innings kept getting better with AB settling into his groove, depositing the ball into gaps with ease.## It was such his class which makes him a different player. He shows his 360° skill in 13th over when he shuffle-across and sent the ball out of the stadium. He reached to his fifty off just 32 balls and looking unstoppable before Rashid Khan brought back for his final over. AB got out in trying to clear the fence and holed out to a well-judged catch by Shikhar Dhawan at deep squire leg boundary. AB scored 69 off 39 balls including 12 fours and a six. Chennai Super Kings beat table topper Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8-wickets after Ambati Rayudu's maiden IPL ton at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Sunday (May 13). Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson provided a solid start to CSK after Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson's 123-run stand lifted SRH to 179 after 20 overs. CSK chased down the target with one over to spare.## Ambati Rayudu- The show-stopper## Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu gave CSK a solid start by putting 134-run stand for the first wicket. However, Watson ran out himself after scoring 57 off 35 balls. But Ambati Rayudu was the show-stopper for the CSK. He not only scored his maiden IPL century but also guided CSK through home comfortably by remaining not out on 100. None of the SRH bowler could make an impact against him. He reached to his fifty off 31 balls with a massive six to Siddarth Kaul.## Before that, both Rayudu and Watson took on Bowlers. In second over of the innings, Rayudu hit first six of the innings to Bhuvneshwar Kumar and after that Watson followed up by two back to back sixes to Sandeep Sharma. CSK completed their 50 in just sixth over. Sunrisers Hyderabad became the first to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2018 after beating Delhi Daredevils by 9 wickets in a run feast contest on Thursday (May 10). It was one such day where Delhi Daredevils were struggling at 52 for 3 at halfway stage before 20-year old Rishabh Pant played a stunning counter-attack. He scored an unbeaten 128 off 63 balls including 15 fours and 7 mighty six. ## However, SRH chased down their highest target after Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson's masterful show with bat and put on an unbeaten 176-run stand for the second wicket and saw SRH through the home with more than one over to spare.##Rishabh Pant has been in sensational form throughout this IPL. He is now leading run-getter in this IPL with 521 runs in 11 innings. However, his effort with the bat didn't prove enough as Daredevils has already been out of this tournament. ## "It's is very harsh for our team because the pitch played better in the second half due to dew. Happens in cricket sometimes, your bowling unit doesn't click," Pant said while receiving the orange cap. ## When he was asked about his knock, he said, "I was just trying to see the ball and hit it cleanly. Took my time early on and things worked out well. Happens, it was a miscommunication (about ran out his partner), I just misjudged the run. It is a part and parcel of the game. Rishabh Pant's maiden IPL ton went in vain as Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson's unbeaten 176-run stand off 102 balls for the second wicket helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to beat Delhi Daredevils by 9-wickets at Firoz Shah Kotla, Delhi on Wednesday (May 10).##Delhi Daredevils after winning the toss, post a big total of 187 after 20 overs. Thanks to Pant's 128* off 63 balls. But Dhawan and Williamson overshadowed Pant's blitzing knock by the 176-runs stand. SRH chased down the target comfortably in the end with 7 balls to spare.##The Rishabh Pant show at Kotla##Delhi Daredevils decision to bat after winning toss seemed to backfire them as they lost first three wickets on 43 inside 8 overs. But it was Pant who not only help DD to recover from those early blows but also gave them a total that was not looking even near after first 10 overs. Pant didn't take much time to get going despite DD kept losing wickets. He hit three back to back boundaries to Siddarth Kaul. However, after hitting those boundaries, he stuck to 1s and 2s in next 3-4 overs. But once the halfway mark crossed, he started hitting again and never looked back after that. He took on number 1 T20 bowler Rashid Khan in his second over for 15 runs. He reached to his fifty with a six to Shakib Al Hasan. He celebrated this with a six to Kaul in next over followed by a four and six to Rashid Khan. But the highlight of his innings was those hit which he hit to Bhuvneshawar Kumar in 18th and 20th over. In those overs, he collected 43 runs off 11 balls with 4 sixes and 4 fours. While in this process, he reached to his maiden IPL century off just 56 balls and became the second youngest to score an IPL century.##However, despite Pant's 128, none of the other batsmen could contribute much. He single-handedly lifted DD to 187 after 20 overs.##Dhawan and Williamson made 188 a cake walk##Sunrisers Hyderabad needed a solid start to win this match but Harshal Patel provided Delhi a big breakthrough as he got Alex Hales out LBW in second over on 15. Hales scored 14 off 10 with three fours. However, it was the only wicket DD could manage as Dhawan and skipper Williamson didn't give any chance going further in this match. Both Dhawan and Williamson played their shots in the gap without taking any risk. None of the DD pacers could able to put pressure on either player. Dhawan reached to his fifty off 30 balls with the help of boundary to Harshal Patel. Without taking too much risk, he was able to get boundaries on regular basis. However, he celebrated his fifty with two sixes to Shahbaz Nadeem in 13th over.##On the other hand, Williamson was calmer and composed than Dhawan. He was playing a supporting role of Dhawan but somehow he was able to find boundaries. However, he reached to his fifty off just 37 balls with a boundary to Trent Boult. He changed his gear after fifty and hit a six and four to Plunket and Patel in next two overs. He hit winning runs by hitting back to back fours to Boult and finished the game with more than one over to spare. Both Dhawan and Williamson remained not out on 92 and 83 respectively. Dhawan awarded Man Of The Match for his match-winning knock.##No mercy for bowlers on such day##It was one of those days when no bowler wants to bowl. When Rishabh Pant was batting, he took every bowler all over the park. But despite being the merciless day for bowlers, Shakib Al Hasan and Sandeep Sharma were the only bowlers whose economy rate was under seven. Shakib who removed both the DD's openers conceded only 27 runs in 4 overs. While Sandeep Sharma gave away only 24 runs in 4 overs without taking a wicket. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who gave just 7 runs in first two overs, went for 44 runs in his last two overs. His figure 4-0-52-1 is the second worst figure in IPL.##On the other hand, none of the DD's bowler could make his mark and went for plenty. This has been another disappointing season for RCB so far. It is quite hard to understand that despite big names and they failed to make it again and again and that has been the story of every IPL season of RCB. In this season of IPL, they were in the competition till their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday (May 7) where they couldn't chased down 147 and lost the match by 5-runs in the end. And almost closed the door for themselves of playoff hopes.##Although, RCB skipper Virat Kohli also thinks that his team didn't deserve to win after putting that kind of show with bat.##"It was tough defeat but that is how the game goes. Royal Challengers Bangalore had a chance but they faced similar result as Sunrisers Hyderabad held their nerve to beat RCB by the small margin of 5-runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Monday (May 7). SRH made it habit to defend such a low scores in this season of IPL.##First, Kane Williamson's 56 off 39 balls gave SRH a fighting total of 146 on a sluggish pitch. After that SRH bowlers made it even more difficult with their line and length. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the star as he successfully defended 12 runs in last over. However, Colin de Grandhomme fought hard till the end but his his effort wasn't proved enough to guide RCB home.##How RCB made mess of this run chase##By playing unnecessarily shots. RCB started the run chase on high note as Parthiv Patel got quick fire 20 off 13 balls before Shakib got him out LBW. Parthiv's wicket brought Virat Kohli on the crease. He didn't take much time to get going and hit his first boundary on third ball to Kumar with the signature Virat Kohli cover drive. He followed that boundary with a 4,6,4 in next over to Shakib. RCB scored 55 for 1 in first six overs. But once the powerplay ended, it became difficult to get runs. In this process, Manan Vohra lost his concentration and bowled out to Sandeep Sharma on a Knuckleball. He could only manage 8 off 10 balls. Now, RCB's best batsmen AB de Villers and Kohli were on the crease. Either of their wicket could have been idol for SRH but they got both of them in back to back overs. First of all, Shakib got Kohli in trying to play a pull shot but found the top edge to Yusuf Pathan at short third man where Pathan made no mistake to catch a one-handed ripper. Virat made 39 off 31 balls. In next over, Rashid Khan trapped a big fish as de Villers couldn't read googly from Rashid's hand and bowled out in trying to cut the balls. That was a big wicket on contest of the game. Debutant Moeen Ali also didn't do any special and scored only 10 runs before Kaul got him.##However, Mandeep Singh and de Grandhomme tried hard to brought back RCB into the game. RCB were needed 39 runs in last 4 overs and Williamson gave the ball to Rashid. He concede a single on 1st ball before Grandhomme hit two back to back maximum and put Rashid Khan under pressure. However, he came back well and conceded only a single on next three balls. Rashid's over could have been decisive but Bhuvneshawar Kumar and Siddarth Kaul had some other plans. In 18th over Kumar given away only 6 runs and followed by 7 runs in next over of Kaul. With 12 to defend in last over, Kumar conceded only 6 off them and handed RCB a 5-run defeat. Sunrisers Hyderabad reclaimed top spot- one that Chennai Super Kings had taken just a few hours ago, after they beat Delhi Daredevils by 7-wickets at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Saturday (May 5).##Delhi Daredevils, led by Prithvi Shaw's 65 off 36 balls, set a target of 164 in front of Sunrisers Hyderabad. They began well their chase before Amit Mishra put SRH in a bit trouble by picking Hales and Dhawan. However, skipper Kane Williamson's unbeaten 32 along with Yusuf Pathan's 27* off 12 guided the team through without any glitches.##DD off to the flier, led by young Prithvi Shaw##After winning toss, SRH put daredevils to bat. However, DD lost Glenn Maxwell early in the only second over but it didn't affect 18-year old Prithvi Shaw, who got his second successive fifty. He was up against arguably the best bowling attack but they were taken 60 runs in first six overs. Shaw was aggressive against Pacers, used his feet against spinners and that paid him off. Sunrisers Hyderabad stunned Mumbai Indians by handed them a 31 runs defeat at packed Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday (April 24). Chasing a modest target of 119, proved to be a hard nut to crack as they bowled out on the lowest total of VIVO IPL 2018. It was yet another heartbreak for MI as they collapsed to their fifth defeat in six matches. SRH again proved why they are regarded as best bowling attack of IPL after defending the second-lowest total of IPL history.##How MI made the mess of it##Chasing 119, should never that difficult for the power-packed Mumbai Indians. But some excellent bowling and poor shot selection made this chase difficult for them.##Evin Lewis, who struggled against swinging balls throughout in this IPL, got out to Sandeep Sharma's out swinging ball. He made only 5 off 9 balls. Ishan Kishan, who played blitzing innings in the previous game, caught out by Deepak Hooda while trying to hit over long off to Mohammed Nabi. Kishan couldn't open his account after playing 3 balls.
