Sirai Box Office Collection Day 8: Vikram Prabhu's Procedural Drama Becomes a Sleeper Hit; Day 8 Higher Than Day 1

In a year dominated by big-budget spectacles, the Kollywood box office has found an unlikely champion in the gritty action-thriller Sirai. Released on Christmas Day (December 25, 2025), the film has defied standard box office trends. While most films witness a sharp decline after their opening weekend, Sirai has grown from strength to strength, culminating in a massive surge on its 8th day. The hallmark of a true sleeper hit is its ability to gain momentum through positive word of mouth. Sirai has achieved exactly that. On its Day 8 (Thursday, January 1, 2026), the film recorded an early estimate of ₹ 2.90 Cr, which is nearly three times its opening day collection of ₹ 1.05 Cr. This jump was fueled by the New Year holiday and a high occupancy rate of 52.53% in Tamil Nadu, proving that audiences are actively seeking out content-driven cinema. Produced by Seven Screen Studio on a modest reported budget of approximately ₹ 3 Cr, the film has already entered the massive profit zone. With a total India Net collection of ₹ 11.9 Cr in just 8 days, Sirai is being hailed as one of the most successful ventures of the year in terms of Return on Investment (ROI). The film has received critical acclaim for its realistic portrayal of systemic biases and the intense chemistry between the lead duo. With no major Tamil releases in the immediate window, Sirai is expected to continue its dominant run through the second weekend.

Pan-India Power Report 2025: Kantara Ch 1 Mints 223 Cr in Hindi; A Reality Check for Southern Dubs in 2025

2025 has been the year of the Pan India Reality Check. The Hindi audience has become ruthless embracing authentic rooted stories like Kantara with open arms while coldly rejecting generic mass actioners, even those starring heavyweights like Pawan Kalyan and Kamal Haasan. While Rishab Shetty emerged as the undisputed king of the Hindi box office this year, other highly anticipated projects like Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie and Suriya's Retro posted numbers that fell short of their astronomical pre release hype. From folklore to gangster dramas, here is the ultimate report card of how South Indian films performed in the Hindi belt this year. Movie Industry Hindi Net Collection Kantara: Chapter 1 Sandalwood ₹223.79 Cr Coolie Kollywood ₹37.23 Cr Game Changer Tollywood ₹32.93 Cr Mirai Tollywood ₹16.86 Cr Baahubali: The Epic Animation ₹6.94 Cr HIT: The Third Case Tollywood ₹4.11 Cr Kannappa Tollywood ₹3.98 Cr Lokah: Chapter 1 Mollywood ₹3.78 Cr They Call Him OG Tollywood ₹3.36 Cr L2: Empuraan Mollywood ₹2.59 Cr Thug Life Kollywood ₹1.70 Cr The Girlfriend Tollywood ₹ 0.60 Cr Madharasi Kollywood ₹0.50 Cr Retro Kollywood ₹ 0.49 Cr Daaku Maharaaj Tollywood ₹ 0.40 Cr Hari Hara Veera Mallu Tollywood ₹ 0.33 Cr Bad Girl Kollywood ₹0.06 Cr 1. Kantara:Chapter 1 Industry:Sandalwood (Kannada) Director:Rishab Shetty Star Cast:Rishab Shetty,Rukmini Vasanth
The prequel to the 2022 divine blockbuster Kantara shattered ceilings. Delving deeper into the origins of the Panjurli Daiva during the Kadamba era, the film offered a visual spectacle that was both raw and grandiose. The Divine climax once again became a cultural talking point, driving repeat audiences in Maharashtra and the Hindi belt. It stands as the only true All Time Blockbuster from the South in Hindi this year. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 2. Coolie Industry:Kollywood (Tamil) Director:Lokesh Kanagaraj Star Cast:Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir.
The union of Thalaivar Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj was expected to set the screens on fire. A stylish gangster drama involving a gold-smuggling syndicate, the film had massive hype. However, the Hindi numbers (₹ 37.23 Cr) suggest it played more to the gallery of existing fans rather than breaking out to the neutral Hindi audience like Vikram or Jailer. 3.Game Changer Industry:Tollywood (Telugu) Director:S. Shankar Star Cast:Ram Charan, Kiara Advani.
Coming off the global high of RRR, Ram Charan teamed up with the showman Shankar. While the film's political theme resonated in the South, the Hindi audience found the narrative slightly dated. ₹ 32.93 Cr is a respectable total but falls short of the expectations set for a Ram Charan and Shankar collaboration. 4.Mirai Industry:Tollywood (Telugu) Director:Karthik Ghattamaneni Star Cast:Teja Sajja, Ritika Nayak.
The surprise package of the year. After HanuMan, Teja Sajja cemented his position with Mirai. Based on the legend of Ashoka's 9 secret books, this Super Yodha film connected well with kids and families, earning nearly ₹ 17 Cr purely on concept strength without a Tier-1 star. 5. Baahubali:The Epic Industry:Pan India (Re-release/Edit) Director:S.S. Rajamouli Star Cast:Prabhas,Anushka Shetty
To celebrate the franchise's legacy, the makers released a special Single Film edit of the two part saga with remastered visuals. While die hard fans turned up, the ₹ 6.95 Cr collection proves that the audience prefers new content over nostalgia trips in theaters. 6. HIT:The Third Case Industry:Tollywood (Telugu) Director:Sailesh Kolanu Star Cast:Nani, Srinidhi Shetty.
Nani entered the HIT universe as Arjun Sarkar. While the film was a critical success in Telugu, the dark, gritty thriller genre has a limited ceiling in the Hindi dubbed market unless backed by massive marketing, reflected in its niche ₹ 4.11 Cr collection. 7. Kannappa Industry:Tollywood (Telugu) Director:Mukesh Kumar Singh Star Cast:Vishnu Manchu,Preity Mukhundhan (Cameos: Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal).
Despite a star-studded lineup of cameos including Prabhas and Akshay Kumar, this mythological drama starring Vishnu Manchu failed to generate buzz in the Hindi belt, collecting a meager ₹ 3.98 Cr. 8. Lokah:Chapter 1 - Chandra Industry:Mollywood(Malayalam) Director:Dominic Arun Star Cast:Kalyani Priyadarshan, Naslen, Sandy.
Malayalam cinema's ambitious entry into the superhero genre! Starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, the film was praised for its VFX and unique world-building. For a Malayalam film without a traditional Mass Hero, earning ₹ 3.78 Cr in Hindi is a positive sign of growth. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 9.They Call Him OG Industry:Tollywood (Telugu) Director:Sujeeth Star Cast:Pawan Kalyan, Priyanka Mohan.
The biggest shocker of the list. Pawan Kalyan's gangster drama, despite featuring Emraan Hashmi as the antagonist, crashed in Hindi with just ₹ 3.36 Cr. It highlights that Pawan Kalyan's stardom is still strictly regional compared to peers like Prabhas or Allu Arjun. 10. L2:Empuraan Industry:Mollywood (Malayalam) Director:Prithviraj Sukumaran Star Cast:Mohanlal, Manju Warrier,Prithviraj. The sequel to Lucifer. While a massive blockbuster in Kerala, the complex political drama of Empuraan proved too dense for the mass Hindi audience, collecting just ₹ 2.59 Cr. 11. Thug Life Industry:Kollywood (Tamil) Director:Mani Ratnam Star Cast:Kamal Haasan, Trisha Krishnan,Silambarasan TR.
The reunion of legends Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan after decades was a cinematic event, but sadly, only for Tamil Nadu. The Hindi version was a non-starter (₹ 1.7 Cr), proving that Class Classics rarely translate to Mass Hindi Box Office. 12.The Girlfriend
 Industry:Tollywood (Telugu)
 Director:Rahul Ravindran
 Star Cast:Rashmika Mandanna, Dheekshith Shetty.

A solo lead thriller by Rashmika Mandanna. While she is a National Crush, the film's niche subject matter restricted its appeal, leading to a washout in the Hindi dubbed version.
 13.Madharasi
 Director:A.R.Murugadoss
 Star Cast:Sivakarthikeyan, Vidyut Jammwal.

Despite being directed by A.R.Murugadoss (known for Ghajini) and starring Vidyut Jammwal (a known face in Hindi), this film was a disaster in Hindi. It seems the audience has moved past the 2000s style of commercial filmmaking.
 14.Retro Industry:Kollywood (Tamil) Director:Karthik Subbaraj Star Cast:Suriya, Pooja Hegde.
Also known as Suriya 44, this stylish actioner by Karthik Subbaraj was expected to be Suriya's big theatrical comeback in Hindi. The shocking collection of less than ₹ 50 Lakhs indicates a complete failure in marketing or release strategy in the North. 15.Daaku Maharaaj
 Industry:Tollywood (Telugu)
 Director:Bobby Kolli
 Star Cast:Nandamuri Balakrishna, Bobby Deol

Even the presence of Bobby Deol (fresh off Animal fame) couldn't save this Balakrishna mass entertainer in Hindi. The over the top action style of NBK clearly has zero takers in the Hindi belt in 2025.
 16. Hari Hara Veera Mallu
 Industry:Tollywood (Telugu)
 Director:Krish Jagarlamudi,Jyoti Krishna
 Star Cast:Pawan Kalyan, Bobby Deol.

A delayed period drama that felt stale upon arrival. With collections of just ₹33 Lakhs, it stands as a significant commercial underperformer for a star of Pawan Kalyan's stature.
 (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 17.Bad Girl Industry:Kollywood (Tamil) Director:Varsha Bharath Star Cast:Anjali Sivaraman.
A small budget coming of age drama produced by heavyweights like Vetrimaaran. While critically acclaimed in festivals, it was virtually non-existent at the Hindi box office. Ultimately, 2025 will be remembered as the year the Hindi market transitioned from being a star reliant territory to a landscape defined by audience discernment. The staggering gap between Kantara (₹223 Cr) and generic mass entertainers highlights a significant shift in viewer preferences. When highly anticipated projects featuring legends struggle to gain traction while a rooted folklore thriller creates history, the trend is undeniable. The era of blind loyalty to formulaic tropes is fading, making way for a new chapter of content supremacy.

Mask day 7 Box Office Report: Kavin's Dark Comedy Struggles in Week 1 – A Steep Climb Ahead

The first-week theatrical run of the much-anticipated dark comedy Mask, starring the rising star Kavin, has concluded. Despite the high expectations surrounding the collaboration with producer Vetrimaaran, the film has witnessed a lukewarm response at the ticket windows, struggling to convert initial curiosity into sustained footfalls. The film opened with decent numbers on Friday but failed to see the exponential weekend growth typically associated with Kavin’s recent films. A significant dip on Monday (-46.43%) sealed its fate as an average grosser. Check the collection of the movie As Of Day 7 India Net Collection: ₹ 6.2 Cr India Gross Collection: ₹ 7.35 Cr Overseas Collection: ₹ 0.65 Cr Worldwide Total: ₹ 8 Cr Day Collection (Net) Day 1 [1st Friday] ₹ 1.15 Cr Day 2 [1st Saturday] ₹ 1.45 Cr Day 3 [1st Sunday] ₹ 1.40 Cr Day 4 [1st Monday] ₹ 0.75 Cr Day 5 [1st Tuesday] ₹ 0.75 Cr Day 6 [1st Wednesday] ₹ 0.70 Cr Day 7 [1st Thursday] ₹ 0.65 Cr(rough data) Total (Week 1) ~ ₹ 6.85 Cr Mask garnered significant attention primarily due to its intriguing assembly of talent, starting with its production backing by Vetrimaaran’s prestigious Grass Root Film Company in association with Black Ticket Company. Helmed by debutant director Vikarnan, the film features Kavin in the lead, who stepped into this quirky, experimental role fresh off the success of his previous hits, Dada and Star. The cast is further bolstered by female leads Andrea Jeremiah and Ruhani Sharma, while veteran actor Charlie and Bala Saravanan deliver key supporting performances. Adding to the film's technical strength is G.V. Prakash Kumar, whose background score was specifically highlighted as a positive element in critical reviews. Mask is billed as a quirky dark comedy-thriller. The story revolves around the chaotic events that unfold in the protagonist's life due to a series of misunderstandings and a case of mistaken identity, forcing him to wear a metaphorical (and literal) mask to survive the situation. While the film was praised for its offbeat humor and Kavin’s performance, critics noted that the screenplay lacked the engaging grip of a typical thriller, leading to mixed word-of-mouth that impacted the weekday collections. Wrapping up its first week, Mask faces a challenging path toward profitability. Against a reported budget of ₹20 Crores, the film has grossed approximately ₹7.15 Crores worldwide (comprising ₹6.5 Cr domestic gross and a modest ₹0.65 Cr from overseas markets). Currently, the film has recovered only about 35% of its production cost through theatrical returns. While the run is not yet over, the box office trend suggests a Below Average performance so far. Unless the film witnesses a surprising turnaround in its second week, it will likely have to rely heavily on its digital and satellite rights to break even.

Kavin returns to the big screen with Andrea Jeremiah in Mask a dark comedy thriller releasing this November

Kavin’s much-anticipated Tamil film Mask is all set to hit theatres on November 21, 2025, as officially confirmed by the actor through a post on X (formerly Twitter). Directed by debutant Vikarnan Ashok, the film has already stirred excitement among cinephiles for its intriguing premise and strong performances. Mask is described as a dark comedy thriller that delves into identity, deception, and moral conflict, with Kavin portraying Velu, a private detective drawn into a web of secrets and manipulation. Andrea Jeremiah plays a pivotal role while also serving as one of the producers alongside S.P. Chokkalingam. The Tamil film Mask (2025) is produced by Black Madras Films and The Show Must Go On, with initial involvement from Grass Root Film Company, mentored by filmmaker Vetrimaaran. The supporting cast includes Ruhani Sharma, Bala Saravanan, Archana Chandhoke, and Charle, while the technical team features G.V. Prakash Kumar composing the music, R.D. Rajasekhar handling cinematography, and R. Ramar taking charge of editing. Initially announced in May 2024 under the working title Kavin 07, the film underwent an extensive shoot across Chennai and has now entered its final post-production phase. After its theatrical release, Mask will stream on Zee5, which has officially secured its digital rights. With its mix of sharp humor, suspense, and emotion — backed by Vetrimaaran’s creative mentorship — Mask promises to present Kavin in a refreshing new light and stands as one of the most awaited Tamil releases of late 2025.

Dhanush: Tracing the Remarkable Journey of a Versatile Actor from Thulluvadho Ilamai to International Acclaim and His Film Idli Kadai

Dhanush, born Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja on July 28, 1983, in Theni, Tamil Nadu, is a multifaceted talent in Indian cinema—an actor, director, producer, singer, lyricist, and international presence. He made his acting debut in 2002 with Thulluvadho Ilamai, directed by his father Kasthuri Raja, and gained widespread recognition in 2003 with Kaadhal Kondein, directed by his brother Selvaraghavan, portraying a mentally disturbed youth with critical acclaim. He quickly followed this with commercially successful films like Thiruda Thirudi (2003) and Devathayai Kanden (2005), as well as action dramas like Sullan (2004) and Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan (2004), which helped him gain popularity with younger audiences. His collaborations with Selvaraghavan, including Pudhupettai (2006), cemented his reputation for taking on intense and unconventional roles. The turning point came with Polladhavan (2007), a gritty drama inspired by neo-realist cinema, followed by Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008), which showcased his lighter, romantic side. With Aadukalam (2010), directed by Vetrimaaran, Dhanush delivered a career-defining performance as a rooster fighter, earning him the National Film Award for Best Actor. In 2011, he gained pan-Indian recognition when his song “Why This Kolaveri Di” from 3 became a global viral sensation. His career continued to diversify with films like Mayakkam Enna (2011), Maryan (2013), and his Bollywood debut Raanjhanaa (2013), where his portrayal of a passionate lover opposite Sonam Kapoor won critical and popular acclaim across India. Dhanush consolidated his mass appeal with commercial entertainers like Velaiilla Pattadhari (2014) and its sequel, as well as Maari (2015), in which his quirky don character became a fan favorite. He explored political drama in Kodi (2016), before delivering some of his most acclaimed performances in Vada Chennai (2018), a raw gangster epic, and Asuran (2019), a searing caste-based drama that earned him his second National Film Award for Best Actor. His versatility continued with family entertainer Thiruchitrambalam (2022) and the bilingual period drama Vaathi (2023), further proving his ability to balance content-driven cinema with box office success. On the international front, Dhanush starred in the French-English production The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir (2018) and appeared in the Russo Brothers’ Hollywood action thriller The Gray Man (2022), sharing screen space with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, marking his entry into mainstream global cinema. Alongside acting, Dhanush has excelled as a director and producer under his Wunderbar Films banner. His directorial debut Pa Paandi (2017) was a heartwarming tale about rediscovering love and life. His 50th film, Raayan (2024), an action thriller written and directed by him with music by A. R. Rahman, marked a milestone in his career. Now, with his 52nd film Idli Kadai, Dhanush once again takes the director’s chair for a heartfelt rural family drama. The film tells the story of a man returning to his roots to run his father’s idli shop, only to face conflicts with a wealthy hotelier. With an ensemble cast featuring Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Sathyaraj, R. Parthiban, P. Samuthirakani, and Rajkiran, Idli Kadai has generated significant buzz, with advance bookings indicating strong anticipation. In conclusion, Dhanush’s journey from a debutant in Thulluvadho Ilamai to an internationally recognized actor demonstrates a rare combination of versatility, risk-taking, and consistent audience appeal. Balancing critically acclaimed performances, commercial blockbusters, pan-Indian ventures, and Hollywood projects, he has continually expanded the boundaries of his craft. Milestones like Aadukalam, Raanjhanaa, Asuran, his 50th film Raayan, and now the eagerly anticipated Idli Kadai reflect not only his ability to reinvent himself but also his commitment to storytelling that resonates across cultures and generations. With his evolving repertoire as an actor, director, and producer, Dhanush has firmly established himself as one of the most influential and enduring figures in contemporary Indian cinema, and Idli Kadai promises to add yet another remarkable chapter to his illustrious career. Suriya Confirms 'Rolex' As Standalone Movie With Director Lokesh Kanagraj

Chennai, August 13 - There haven't been many instances in Indian cinema when a 5-minute cameo role got the loudest cheers in theaters and it is very rare that they get remembered for a long time. ## Suriya, one of the biggest movie stars in Tamil cinema, played one such cameo in director Lokesh Kanagaraj's mega-blockbuster "Vikram" headlined by legendary Kamal Haasan. The movie is a part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe in which Suriya played a theater-shaking cameo as Rolex at the end of "Vikram" and teased a standalone movie. ## Now, a year later, Suriya has reportedly confirmed 'Rolex' as a standalone movie in the LCU. During a recent fans meet, Suriya confirmed that director Lokesh Kanagraj narrated to him the script of Rolex as a standalone film which he liked. He reportedly confirmed that the movie will happen soon once he is done with his current commitments.## Meanwhile, the actor also updated his fans about his upcoming blockbuster, highly-anticipated Pan India movie "Kanguva" and said that it has come out 100 times better than what the team had expected before shooting. He also confirmed that his next movie will start shooting in October this year while the long-awaited "Vaadivaasal" will start once director Vetrimaaran completes "Viduthalai Part - 2". ## "Rolex" will start before "Irumbu Kai Maayavi", a superhero project which has been in discussion for a long time between Suriya and Lokesh Kanagaraj. Last year, it was reported that Suriya was keen to start IKM soon, but now, it seems it has been delayed further and will happen only after "Rolex". Meanwhile, Lokesh is currently busy with the post-production work of Thalapathy Vijay's "Leo" which is reportedly a part of LCU. He will next direct superstar Rajinikanth and also has "Kaithi 2" with Karthi in the pipeline.## Stay tuned...
