Alpha Opening Weekend Box Office: First Female-Led Spy Film Marks the Weakest Opening in YRF Spy Universe History with Rs. 34 Cr Net

BY SACNILK

The YRF Spy Universe has grown into a massive cinematic force over the years, starting with the Tiger franchise and reaching new heights with films like Pathaan and the recent War 2. While the series has traditionally been dominated by male leads, Alpha marks a significant milestone as the first female-centric film in this action-packed universe. However, looking at the box office trajectory, the franchise has seen a bit of a downward trend since the release of War 2. Alpha has now completed its first three days with a domestic net collection of ₹34.00 Cr, while the India gross stands at ₹40.80 Cr. Although the numbers are lower than its predecessors, the film showed steady growth each day, indicating a fair level of interest in this new direction for the spy saga. The journey began on Friday with a net collection of ₹9.25 Cr. On its opening day, the film was showcased across 7,534 shows with an average occupancy of 20.0%. It was a fair start, but the real momentum was expected over the weekend. On Saturday, Alpha saw a healthy jump of 24.3%, bringing in ₹11.50 Cr net. The number of shows slightly decreased to 6,882, but the occupancy improved to 25.0%, indicating that the word of mouth was beginning to settle in. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The growth continued into Sunday, which is currently seeing early estimates for its overseas and worldwide totals. The domestic net collection for Day 3 stands final at ₹13.25 Cr, marking a 15.2% rise from Saturday. The film utilized 7,439 shows on its third day, and the occupancy peaked at 29.0%. Overseas, the film is estimated to have collected ₹5.00 Cr on Sunday, pushing the total international gross to ₹18.00 Cr. The overall worldwide gross for the opening weekend currently stands at an estimated ₹58.80 Cr. The platform saw 70.95K tickets sold during pre-sales, followed by 153.72K on Friday. Saturday proved to be the peak for online bookings with 202K tickets, while Sunday remained strong with 181.86K tickets. In total, over 608K tickets were booked via this platform alone. When we look at the national chains specifically for Sunday, the film sold a total of 63,000 tickets, resulting in a gross collection of ₹2.51 Cr with an overall occupancy of 10%. Breaking this down by chain, PVR was the top contributor with 33,000 tickets sold and a gross of ₹1.40 Cr at 13% occupancy. INOX followed with 20,500 tickets and a gross of ₹0.80 Cr at 9% occupancy, while Cinepolis accounted for 9,500 tickets and a gross of ₹0.31 Cr with an occupancy of 7%. These numbers reflect a decent level of engagement in the major circuits, providing a useful benchmark for how the film might trend in urban areas during the week. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Regional occupancy data for the third day provides a clearer picture of where the film is resonating most. The National Capital Region (NCR) saw the highest volume with 739 shows and a strong overall occupancy of 33.0%. Mumbai followed with 545 shows at 27.3% occupancy, while Ahmedabad recorded 29.3% occupancy across 468 shows. Interestingly, cities with fewer shows often saw higher engagement; for instance, Bengaluru had 289 shows with 31.3% occupancy, and Hyderabad managed a healthy 31.8% across 218 shows. Other key markets like Surat and Pune maintained steady footfalls with 27.0% and 27.3% occupancy from 268 and 241 shows, respectively. Across all these major regions, the evening shows consistently performed best, with Hyderabad even hitting 49.0% occupancy during the peak period. While the collections are decent on their own merit, a comparison with other films in the YRF Spy Universe shows that Alpha has had a relatively quiet start. It currently stands as the weakest release in the franchise in terms of opening weekend collections. However, given that it is a female-led actioner, the steady growth from Friday to Sunday is a positive sign. Here is how the YRF Spy Universe movies rank based on their India net opening weekend collections: (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) YRF Spy Universe Opening Weekend Comparison - India Net Pathaan: ₹ 280.75 Cr (Wednesday Release) War 2: ₹ 175.75 Cr (Thursday Release) War: ₹ 166.25 Cr (Wednesday Release) Tiger Zinda Hai: ₹ 114.93 Cr (Friday Release) Ek Tha Tiger: ₹ 100.57 Cr (Wednesday Release) Tiger 3: ₹ 44.50 Cr (Sunday Release) Alpha: ₹ 34.00 Cr (Friday Release) The coming weekdays will be crucial for Alpha to maintain its momentum. Since the growth has been consistent over the weekend, the trade will be watching closely to see if the film can hold steady on Monday and beyond to ensure a successful lifetime run at the box office.

Alpha Advance Booking Update: Over 700 Tickets Sold Across National Chains for Alia Bhatt's U/A Certified Action Thriller

BY SACNILK

Alia Bhatt's upcoming action film Alpha has received a U/A 16+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). According to reports from Bollywood Hungama, the board cleared the movie for its July 3 release after the makers implemented a few minor modifications. These changes were mainly focused on adjusting specific violent visuals and language to align with the age rating while maintaining the film's overall structure. The certification process came with a few minor modifications. The examining committee focused on refining the visuals, particularly in the second half where scenes involving multiple stabbings were reduced and replaced with alternative shots. Similar visual tweaks were made in the first half, and one foul word was deleted. To keep the presentation polished, the makers were asked to include subtitles for all songs and ensure that credits appear in Hindi. With these changes, the final runtime stands at 140 minutes and 48 seconds, which is just over 2 hours and 20 minutes. For those tracking the pacing, the first half is slightly longer at 73 minutes compared to the 67-minute second half. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Switching focus to the business side of things, advance bookings officially opened across India today, Wednesday, July 1. If we look at the initial data from the national chains, the film is just starting to find its footing. As of midday, Alpha has sold over 700 tickets across the three major chains, accounting for a gross of approximately 2 Lakhs. Breaking these numbers down, INOX is currently leading the pack with over 500 tickets sold, followed by PVR with 150 tickets, and Cinepolis with around 50 tickets. The distribution strategy for this release is quite specific. YRF has issued clear instructions to exhibitors to ensure a controlled and premium experience. Most notably, there will be no early morning shows, with the first screenings mandated to start no earlier than 9:30 AM on Friday, July 3. Additionally, ticket pricing has been fixed to align with the current rates of Akshay Kumar's Welcome to the Jungle, which is performing well in theatres. This suggests that the studio is prioritizing a steady, high-value rollout over a chaotic early morning rush. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) To ensure maximum visibility, the studio has also set strict screen-sharing requirements. Depending on the size of the complex, theatres must allocate a minimum number of shows, ranging from 4 shows for 2-screen properties to at least 8 shows for larger 4-screen multiplexes. This programming ensures that Alpha will have a decent presence across the country from its first day of release. As the seventh installment in the YRF Spy Universe, Alpha carries a lot of weight on its shoulders. Directed by Shiv Rawail, who recently earned acclaim for The Railway Men, this is the first female-led film in a franchise that includes heavyweights like Pathaan and War. By placing Alia Bhatt at the center of this action-heavy world, YRF is looking to expand the scope of Indian spy cinema. With the countdown now at 48 hours, all eyes will be on how the audience responds to this new direction for the franchise on July 3.

The third part of one of the biggest and most successful female-led franchises in India is scheduled to hit the big screens next year with another gripping chapter. Directed by Abhiraj Minawala in his directorial debut, Mardaani 3 is among the most-awaited films, and to mark the auspicious occasion of Navratri, Yash Raj Films has unveiled the first look poster of the film, and also re-confirmed that it will be hitting theatres globally on February 27, 2026. The poster sets the mood right from the start — it features a close-up of a hand holding a pistol, with a Delhi Police barricade in the background. The imagery immediately signals that Rani Mukerji's character, Shivani Shivaji Roy, is ready to dive back into another intense face-off against crime. Known for its realistic portrayal of dark themes, the Mardaani series has always carried a gritty and uncompromising tone, and the first glimpse of part three suggests that this chapter will be no different. Produced by Aditya Chopra, Mardaani 3 is expected to raise the stakes higher than ever before. While the first film dealt with child trafficking and the second highlighted the menace of cybercrime, the plot of the third instalment is still under wraps. However, fans can expect another socially relevant theme tackled with raw intensity. Rani Mukerji's portrayal of Shivani Shivaji Roy, a fearless and sharp-minded cop, has earned her wide acclaim since the franchise began in 2014 Given the success of the first two films and the strong recall value of the franchise, Mardaani 3 is already being touted as one of the most awaited Bollywood releases of 2026. After Box Office History, Ahaan Pandey, Aneet Padda's Saiyaara Storms To Number 1 On Netflix

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, September 17 - After scripting history at the box office, debutante Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda's romantic drama Saiyaara continues to wave its magic as it has taken Netflix by storm by emerging as the number 1 non-English movie worldwide this past week. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara started streaming on Netflix from 12 September after completing the mandatory 8-week theatrical run. Despite the majority of its target audience having already watched it in theatres, the film has soared to number 1 on the streamer with 3.7 million (37 lakh) views in the first 3 days. With 3.7 million views or 9.3 million viewing hours, Saiyaara is among the most-watched Indian films in the first weekend on Netflix this year. It is also trending at the number 1 in 9 countries this week, including India, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Mauritius, while trending in the top 10 in 15 countries. It has been observed in the past that those films have fared better on Netflix, which did better at the box office, than those which began streaming directly, and Saiyaara, with a solid start, has proved that again. This is probably one of the main reasons why streamers have started refusing to take most of the films directly and wait for the box office validation to acquire them. Saiyaara, meanwhile, has been a box office breakout of the year. Made on a medium-range budget of around 50 crores, this Yash Raj Films production stunned the trade with its phenomenal box office run. The movie finished its theatrical journey with over 570 crores worldwide as the highest-grossing romantic Indian film of all-time and one of the highest-grosser of the year. Stay tuned...

Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's War 2 Final Worldwide Box Office Collection, Verdict, and Records

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, September 12 – Yash Raj Films' ambitious spy action thriller War 2 has ended up as one of the major box office disappointments of recent times. It was one of the most-awaited films of the year, carrying the legacy of 2019's blockbuster War. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the movie promised high-octane action, cutting-edge visuals, and the first-ever collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and Telugu superstar Jr. NTR. However, despite the hype and sky-high expectations, War 2 massively underperformed, not just at the domestic but also the overseas box office, wrapping up its run on a disappointing note as the second-lowest-grossing film in the YRF Spy Universe. It is the costliest film in the famous Spy Universe, with over 400 crores. War 2 started struggling with the advance sales itself as it failed to build the moment despite the star power of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, along with the brand value of the franchise. The pre-sales trend was clearly reflected in the opening, which was also affected by the negative reviews. Here Is The Final Worldwide Box Office Breakdown of War 2 (expected) India Net Box Office Collection₹ 237.00 CrHindi Net Box Office Collection₹ 178.00 Cr India Gross Box Office Collection₹ 283.00 Cr Overseas Box Office Collection₹ 82.00 Cr Worldwide Box Office Collection₹ 365.00 Cr India Footfalls/Admits1.20 Cr approx. Box Office VerdictFlop The Hindi version, which was expected to lead the charge, finished below 200 crores net as the lowest in the Spy Universe and far below the benchmarks set by other spy universe outings like Pathaan and War. However, the big letdown was the Telugu version, which couldn't even cross 100 crores domestically despite the presence of one of the biggest stars of South Indian cinema. As a result of poor collections, War 2 finished below 300 crores gross domestically. In the overseas market, the collections were also not up to the level the franchise has set over the year, reaching 82 crores gross, a low figure for a film of this scale. It has also been the least-watched movie in the Spy Universe. Despite its lavish scale, budget, star power, and action-packed marketing campaign, War 2 failed to resonate with audiences beyond the initial buzz. Weak storytelling, mixed word-of-mouth, and high expectations worked against it. For YRF’s spy universe, which has otherwise delivered record-smashing successes, War 2 serves as a reminder that brand value alone cannot guarantee box office glory. Stay tuned...

Krrish 4 Update: Hrithik Roshan To Begin Directorial Journey With Superhero Saga In Summer of 2026; Release Plans Locked

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, September 8 - After facing a major setback with War 2, Hrithik Roshan is looking to bounce back, and there is no bigger project than Krrish 4 to do that. The ambitious superhero film has been in the making for a long time, but shooting keeps getting delayed for various reasons. As reported previously, things are finally heading in the right direction. Veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who will be producing this mega-budgeted film with Yash Raj Films, has given clarity on one of Bollywood's most-awaited projects, which will also mark Hrithik's directorial debut. During a recent interaction with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker confirmed that the pre-production is going on in full swing, as the Hrithik Roshan-starrer will go on floors in the summer of 2026. The announcement has put an end to years of speculation surrounding the fourth instalment of the beloved superhero franchise, which last saw its release back in 2013 with Krrish 3. The current plans to start shooting Krrish 4 are slightly different from the earlier plans of starting it in early 2026, and Rakesh Roshan said that the reason for this delay is the extensive pre-production time, which is required to mount the film on the desired scale. Rakesh Roshan further revealed that the team is aiming for a 2027 theatrical release. Given the scale of the project, the makers want to ensure ample time for filming and post-production, especially since the Krrish series is known for its ambitious visual effects and larger-than-life action set pieces. Fans can expect a film that not only continues the story of India’s first mainstream superhero but also elevates the cinematic experience to a global standard. Adding to the excitement, Krrish 4 is expected to bring the original cast back. Priyanka Chopra has reportedly been locked to continue reprising her role. Also, with YRF coming on board, the film has a powerful backing, which is expected to provide it with both the technical excellence and the grand scale needed to compete with international superhero films. War 2's Box Office Result Alters YRF's Ambitious Spy Universe Plans For Jr. NTR

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, August 26 - Yash Raj Films' ambitious Spy Universe is heading into the days of uncertainty after the underwhelming results of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR-fronted War 2, along with Salman Khan's Tiger 3 at the box office. Particularly, the War 2's box office performance seems to have put the curtains on what could have been the future of Spy Universe. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 was easily the most ambitious and the biggest film in the Spy Universe. It marked the first major collaboration between North and South with the inclusion of Telugu superstar Jr. NTR in his Bollywood debut. The film was expected to write new chapters in box office history, but what happened with it has shocked everyone, as it is set to finish below 400 crores worldwide. Reportedly, YRF had planned a standalone War 2 spin-off film with Jr. NTR's character Vikram in the Spy Universe. According to the latest report by Bollywood Hungama, the studio has decided to drop plans of making a standalone film with Jr. NTR following the disappointing box office run of War 2. The studio was already reportedly developing a standalone film for Agent Vikram, but the failure of War 2 has halted the entire process. It is said that producer Aditya Chopra has decided not to move forward with the project. As reported earlier, the filmmaker is now redesigning the Spy Universe to give it a fresh touch. Currently, only Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh's Alpha is scheduled in the Spy Universe, on December 25 this year. Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan 2, which is supposed to be the next film after Alpha, is also said to be postponed indefinitely, while other films, including Tiger vs Pathaan, are not moving forward at the moment. War 2 is the sixth film in the Spy Universe, and it also stars Kiara Advani and Anil Kapoor in the key roles. It is the costliest Spy Universe film yet, with a budget of over 400 crores, but has disappointed with its box office performance so far, grossing just around 344 crores worldwide in 12 days.
