Rani Mukerji's Mardaani 3 Gets First Look Poster As YRF Re-confirms Release Date

Mumbai, September 22 - Rani Mukerji returns as a daredevil cop Shivani Shivaji Roy with Yash Raj Films' upcoming action thriller Mardaani 3. The third part of one of the biggest and most successful female-led franchises in India is scheduled to hit the big screens next year with another gripping chapter. Directed by Abhiraj Minawala in his directorial debut, Mardaani 3 is among the most-awaited films, and to mark the auspicious occasion of Navratri, Yash Raj Films has unveiled the first look poster of the film, and also re-confirmed that it will be hitting theatres globally on February 27, 2026. The poster sets the mood right from the start — it features a close-up of a hand holding a pistol, with a Delhi Police barricade in the background. The imagery immediately signals that Rani Mukerji's character, Shivani Shivaji Roy, is ready to dive back into another intense face-off against crime. Known for its realistic portrayal of dark themes, the Mardaani series has always carried a gritty and uncompromising tone, and the first glimpse of part three suggests that this chapter will be no different. Produced by Aditya Chopra, Mardaani 3 is expected to raise the stakes higher than ever before. While the first film dealt with child trafficking and the second highlighted the menace of cybercrime, the plot of the third instalment is still under wraps. However, fans can expect another socially relevant theme tackled with raw intensity. Rani Mukerji's portrayal of Shivani Shivaji Roy, a fearless and sharp-minded cop, has earned her wide acclaim since the franchise began in 2014 Given the success of the first two films and the strong recall value of the franchise, Mardaani 3 is already being touted as one of the most awaited Bollywood releases of 2026. With YRF backing the project, the scale and storytelling promise to be bigger and bolder. As the countdown begins for its February release, all eyes are now on the makers to drop the teaser or trailer in the coming months. One thing is certain — Rani Mukerji is all set to deliver yet another power-packed performance that will keep audiences hooked. From Dangal To Lokah: The Highest-Grossing Films Across Six Major Indian Film Industries

Mumbai, September 20 - The Indian cinema is the most diverse in the world with its vast landscape of languages and cultures, each with its own set of superstars, styles, and record-breaking blockbusters. Over the years, the country has delivered rich results at the box office, not just with the mainstream Hindi cinema, but also with regional cinema, where films across different genres unlocked new potential. As the Indian cinema continues to evolve and come closer than ever, there have been certain films which have not only ruled their regional box office but also established themselves as benchmarks for their respective industries. Here's a look at the current all-time biggest hits from six major Indian film industries, which have set benchmarks for their other films to achieve. Hindi Cinema – Dangal (2016) Aamir Khan's sports drama Dangal (2016) remains the undisputed king of not just Bollywood, but of Indian cinema. With a staggering 2070 crore worldwide gross, the wrestling drama became a global sensation, largely due to its phenomenal run in China, which contributed over 60% to its total collection. Years later, no Indian film has managed to surpass its worldwide record. Telugu Cinema – Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) While Dangal remains the biggest Indian blockbuster, it was director S.S. Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) that changed the game for Indian cinema. Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Anushka Shetty, the epic fantasy collected 1788 crore worldwide and showcased the true potential of Telugu films and also broke the language barrier to emerge as a pan-India spectacle, with a large contribution from the Hindi language. Kannada Cinema – KGF Chapter 2 (2022) Kannada cinema was largely limited to its home state before the Yash-fronted KGF franchise changed the game for it. And it was KGF Chapter 2 (2022) that proved that Kannada cinema could dominate globally. With its raw action, style, and storytelling, the film amassed an extraordinary 1230 crore worldwide, cementing itself as the industry's biggest blockbuster to date. Tamil Cinema – 2.0 (2018) The Tamil film industry has failed to match its fellow Southern industries in terms of potential, but it has seen a continuous rise over the last few years. However, despite multiple 500 crores blockbusters, it is Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's sci-fi extravaganza 2.0 (2018), directed by Shankar, which is still the biggest Tamil grosser to date. The film, packed with cutting-edge VFX, grossed ₹691 crore worldwide. Malayalam Cinema – Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra (2025) The Malayalam cinema has been on an unreal rise for the last few years. From being limited to the regional barrier to breaking into the Pan-India market, the industry has made sure that it competes with the giants of Indian cinema. And it can't be a prouder moment for the industry that a female-led film is leading the charge. Kalyani Priyadarshan's superhero saga Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, with a 267+ crore worldwide gross, has become the industry's highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing big names like Mohanlal's Empuraan. Punjabi Cinema – Jatt & Juliet 3 (2024) The Punjabi film industry has been struggling to deliver results at the box office due to various reasons. It has scored only two 100 crores grossers, with Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa's romantic comedy Jatt & Juliet 3 (2024) being the biggest of them. It became the second-ever Punjabi movie, after Carry On Jatta 3 (2023), to cross the 100 crore milestone, grossing 102.60 crore worldwide. Stay tuned...

Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi's Jolly LLB 3 Day 1 Early Estimates: Takes A Double-Digit Opening

Mumbai, September 19 - Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi's much-awaited courtroom comedy drama Jolly LLB 3 has taken a promising start at the domestic box office. The film, which marks the return of the popular franchise, started on a decent note in the morning shows, but quickly picked up pace as the day progressed. By afternoon, the film showed positive trends, and the momentum truly kicked in towards the evening and night shows, resulting in a better-than-expected first-day figure. What initially seemed like a 9-10 crore start has now shaped up into a good 12+ crore opening. According to early estimates, the film has collected 12-13 crore net on Day 1, and if the single-screen contribution comes out equally good, the movie even stands a chance to surpass Jolly LLB 2's opening day figure of 13.20 crore. That would be a significant feat, considering the gap between instalments and the current box office scenario. The initial word of mouth for Jolly LLB 3 seems to be positive, with audiences appreciating the mix of humour, drama, and courtroom sequences. If this reception sustains, the movie is well-positioned to score big over its first weekend. The opening day trend and advance booking for Saturday and Sunday suggest that the film could race towards a 50 crore opening weekend, which will be a good result. Stay tuned...

Jolly LLB 3 Box Office Preview/Day 1 Expectations: Double-Digit Opening On The Cards

Mumbai, September 18 - Superstar Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi's much-awaited courtroom comedy-drama Jolly LLB 3 is all set to hit the big screens tomorrow, amid decent expectations. Directed by Subhash Kapoor, the film brings both the Jollys together for the first time, which has increased the stakes and expectations. The film's advance booking has progressed slowly but with a steady pace, as it has so far collected around 2.15 crores gross (without block seats) for the opening day. With the last few hours left for the release, the momentum in the sales is picking up, and it is expected to surpass or come near the advance of Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par (3.31 crores for Day 1). To put things into perspective, Sitaare Zameen Par had collected 10.70 crores net on its opening day with 3.31 crores gross in advance sales on around 3300 screens. Jolly LLB 3 is reportedly releasing in around 3500 screens, and with minimal competition from Bollywood films, it is expected to fare better than SZP. As said, the pre-sales of Jolly LLB 3 are likely to be around the Aamir Khan-starrer, which puts it on course to take the opening in the range of 11-12 crores net. The franchise value is expected to boost the spot booking, and if the reports are positive, it might even challenge Jolly LLB 2's opening of 13.20 crores net, but it is something which depends on how things go on the release day. Early trends suggest that Jolly LLB 3 is poised to score Akshay Kumar one of his better openings in recent times. A double-digit debut looks assured, with the possibility of scaling higher depending on spot bookings and word of mouth. If the content delivers, the weekend collections could see a healthy surge, setting the stage for another successful outing for the popular legal comedy franchise. Stay tuned...

Sunny Kaushal and Yami Gautam's Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga Sequel In Works For Theatrical Release; Details Revealed

Mumbai, September 18 - In 2023, Yami Gautam and Sunny Kaushal teamed up for Maddock Films' heist thriller Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga. The movie was directly premiered on Netflix, and went on to become one of the most-watched Indian films on the streamer. Directed by Ajay Singh, Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga received praise for being a one-of-a-kind heist thriller, and struck a chord with the audiences. Now, according to the report by Pinkvilla, the sequel to CNKB is in development at Maddock with Sunny Kaushal and Yami Gautam returning to lead once again. The report says that the script for Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga 2 is already locked, and the makers are expected to take it on floors by the end of this year. The bigger picture is that the makers are aiming to make it s theatrical film, unlike the first movie, which was made as a streaming product. The entire plot of Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga 2 is set on a cruise, where all the madness unfolds. Much like the original, this one too will be an edge-of-the-seat thriller with comic elements", says the report. After Box Office History, Ahaan Pandey, Aneet Padda's Saiyaara Storms To Number 1 On Netflix

Mumbai, September 17 - After scripting history at the box office, debutante Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda's romantic drama Saiyaara continues to wave its magic as it has taken Netflix by storm by emerging as the number 1 non-English movie worldwide this past week. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara started streaming on Netflix from 12 September after completing the mandatory 8-week theatrical run. Despite the majority of its target audience having already watched it in theatres, the film has soared to number 1 on the streamer with 3.7 million (37 lakh) views in the first 3 days. With 3.7 million views or 9.3 million viewing hours, Saiyaara is among the most-watched Indian films in the first weekend on Netflix this year. It is also trending at the number 1 in 9 countries this week, including India, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Mauritius, while trending in the top 10 in 15 countries. It has been observed in the past that those films have fared better on Netflix, which did better at the box office, than those which began streaming directly, and Saiyaara, with a solid start, has proved that again. This is probably one of the main reasons why streamers have started refusing to take most of the films directly and wait for the box office validation to acquire them. Saiyaara, meanwhile, has been a box office breakout of the year. Made on a medium-range budget of around 50 crores, this Yash Raj Films production stunned the trade with its phenomenal box office run. The movie finished its theatrical journey with over 570 crores worldwide as the highest-grossing romantic Indian film of all-time and one of the highest-grosser of the year. Stay tuned...

Jolly LLB 2 (2017) – Star Power Takes The Franchise To New Highs - The sequel arrived in 2017 with Akshay Kumar stepping into the role of the quirky lawyer, replacing Arshad. The results were phenomenal as Jolly LLB 2 collected superb around 197 crore worldwide gross, out of which 162.50 crore came from India, while footfalls rose more than 3x to nearly 1.20 crore. This massive jump in both revenue and audience turnout showed the difference that star power could make, transforming the series from a small hit into a full-fledged blockbuster franchise. It also won multiple awards at different awards shows. Can Both Jollys Take Jolly LLB 3 Past Its Predecessor - As said, the stakes are higher than before, and with both Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar coming together for the first time in the series, expectations are running high for Jolly LLB 3. The first two films combined have already amassed around 250 crore worldwide with over 1.50 crore footfalls, proving the franchise's strong box office pull. If the third instalment successfully blends its signature mix of satire, courtroom drama, and entertainment, it has every chance to surpass the benchmark set by Jolly LLB 2 and solidify Jolly LLB as one of Bollywood's most enduring courtroom sagas. The franchise films have seen a higher ratio of failure than success this year, but the trade is optimistic about Jolly LLB 3. Stay tuned...

Aamir Khan's Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic With Rajkumar Hirani In Jeopardy

Mumbai, September 17 - Earlier this year, superstar Aamir Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani announced their reunion for the biopic of legendary Dadasaheb Phalke. The news created a stir among the fans as the blockbuster duo, who delivered two iconic films in 3 Idiots and PK, came together after more than a decade for their third collaboration. The movie was expected to be a landmark film for both Aamir and Hirani, but cut to a few months later, the much-awaited collab has hit a roadblock. According to the latest report by Bollywood Hungama, the Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic has been put on hold, and the reason is the script. It is said that Aamir Khan heard the script from Hirani and felt that it didn't have enough elements to make for a theatrical watch. The perfectionist wanted Hirani to have a typical approach of mixing laughter with emotion and drama. But the script was devoid of comedy, which raised a doubt in the mind of Aamir, and he requested Raju to rewrite the script and come back. The report further stated that Rajkumar Hirani and co-writer Abhijat Joshi were shocked by Aamir's reaction and are now figuring out what to do next. The movie, which was supposed to go on floors by October this year, has now been delayed indefinitly, as per Bollywood Hungama. The Dangal star is now reportedly hearing other scripts for his next. The box office dynamics in this age and era have changed drastically, where the brand value doesn't guarantee success. However, in the post-pandemic world, Bollywood has reached new highs, not just once, but on many occasions, with record collections, and those films have managed to pull massive footfalls, reaffirming the enduring charm of the big screen. According to the estimates, six Bollywood blockbusters have managed to breach the coveted 3 crore footfalls mark since cinemas reopened in late 2021, proving that audiences are still willing to flock to theatres when offered the right blend of entertainment, star power, and emotion. Topping the list is Shah Rukh Khan's action phenomenon Jawan, which stands tall with 3.80 crore admissions, making it the most-watched Bollywood film of the post-pandemic period. The film's pan-India appeal, coupled with Atlee's mass entertainer packaging, made it a cultural event across the country. Not far behind is SRK's comeback film Pathaan, which kick-started the revival wave for Hindi cinema in early 2023. Sunny Deol's Gadar 2, fueled by nostalgia and patriotic fervour, follows closely with over 3.40 crore admissions, proving that emotional connect remains as powerful as ever. Mumbai, September 14 – Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday's much-awaited romantic comedy drama Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has undergone a major release date shift after backing out of Valentine's Day debut. The film, which was earlier locked for February 13, 2026, will now arrive much earlier, hitting the big screens on January 31, 2025, coinciding with the New Year's weekend. The decision to prepone the release has surprised many, but the industry insider believes that it is to avoid the Valentine's Day rush as well as the film's early availability.
