WWE Monday Night Raw, October 16, 2023: Live Coverage
Sami Zayn enters the ring on Raw's season premiere, acknowledging the departure of Kevin to Smackdown. He's torn between sadness over their partnership ending and excitement for Kevin's prospects. Sami sees this as an opportunity to prove himself as a World Championship-level superstar.##
Jey Uso's arrival on Raw led to Kevin's departure, and while Sami is happy for Jey, he mentions the challenges they face. Sami reflects on their past success, feeling it was tainted by "THE Judgment Day." They are now headed for a tag title match.##
As Sami begins to speak about his recent career highs, "THE Judgment Day" interrupts. Finn, Priest, Rhea, and Dom confront Sami and express their intentions to remove him.##
Jey enters the ring with steel chairs, but Sami eventually leaves, expressing mixed feelings about Jey replacing Kevin. They part ways. ##
The broadcast shifts to a recap of Nakamura and Ricochet's recent encounter. ##
Backstage, Jey approaches Sami to check on him. Sami initially shares his mixed emotions but eventually offers reconciliation, and they share a brief hug. ##
Falls Count Anywhere Match: Ricochet vs. Shinsuke Nakamura ##
Nakamura enters, and Ricochet swiftly attacks with a baseball slide, punches, and chops. Nakamura counters with a kick and a running knee on the turnbuckles. A reverse exploder by Nakamura nearly seals the deal. Ricochet fights back with his Recoil but only gets a near fall. He attempts a springboard dropkick, a Fosbury Flop, and they exchange forearms on the stage. ##
The brawl goes backstage, Nakamura slamming Ricochet into LED screens. In the Gorilla position, Nakamura delivers knee strikes, and Ricochet responds with punches. Nakamura shoves a ref into Ricochet, but Ricochet leaps over for a running knee and a near fall. Punches continue on the stage. Nakamura tries to whip Ricochet into the Tron, but Ricochet flips off it. Nakamura uses knee strikes, Ricochet blocks a GTS, and they exchange kicks and a shooting star press. ##
After a commercial break, they're in the seating area. Ricochet executes a shooting star press onto Nakamura and security. Nakamura falls down the aisle, and Ricochet follows with more punches. Nakamura uses popcorn and hurls Ricochet into the ringside barrier, delivering a running kick. Nakamura fetches a table and nunchuks from under the ring, striking Ricochet with them. He sets up the table and exposes the announce table. Ricochet counters with a knee and a series of forearms, placing Nakamura on the announce table. ##
Ricochet climbs the turnbuckles for a high-risk move, but Nakamura escapes. Ricochet drops Nakamura on the top rope, and Nakamura retrieves the table. Nakamura removes the hood from the announce table but gets hit by Ricochet's knee and a barrage of forearms. Ricochet attempts to suplex Nakamura through the table, but Nakamura returns to the ring. Nakamura lands a GTS for a near fall. ##
Ricochet counters a Kinshasa with a kick and ends up on the apron. He follows up with a springboard 450 splash, coming close to victory. Ricochet sets up for a 630, but Nakamura stops him with a forearm. Ricochet knocks Nakamura off the turnbuckles, sending him to the floor. Ricochet kicks Nakamura on the apron and sets up for a superplex through the table. Nakamura grabs Ricochet's hand, pushing him off the turnbuckles and through the table. Nakamura lines up for Kinshasa and lands it, securing the three-count victory. ##

Singles Match: Piper Niven (with Chelsea Green) vs. Natayla ##
Natalya and Piper lock up, leading to a punch exchange. Piper counters a cross body attempt but can't pin Natalya. Head scissors by Natalya, blocked Sharpshooter, and a dropkick. Piper counters Natalya's moves with a knee and headbutt. ##
After a break, Piper avoids a clothesline and trips Natalya but misses a back senton. Natalya nearly pins Piper with a roll-up and a dropkick. Piper's cross body misses. Natalya goes for the Sharpshooter, but Green's distraction on the apron causes chaos. Niven takes advantage, landing a cross body for the win. ##

Seth welcomed everyone to Raw, discussing last week's events, including Drew McIntyre becoming the number one contender. Drew challenged Seth, but Damian Priest attacked Drew. Dominic appeared with the Money in the Bank briefcase, and Drew supported him. Seth had questions and invited Drew to the ring.##
Drew entered the ring and questioned Seth's claim of being at 100% when he got jumped. Seth showed footage of Drew talking to Rhea Ripley. Drew explained it was private, and they should focus on their upcoming match. Seth dismissed past interference issues and accused Drew of making excuses.##
Seth dropped the mic and left the ring. The show included Bronson Reed discussing fear driving his career and warning against disrespect. ##
Later, a clip featured Logan Paul calling out Rey Mysterio, followed by an interview of Rey by Peter Rosenberg regarding Logan Paul. ##
Ludwig Kaiser (with Giovanni Vinci) vs. Johnny Gargano ##
The match starts with Gargano taking the initiative with a Thesz Press and a barrage of punches. He follows up with a head scissors takedown and a daring suicide dive. A brief exchange of words with Vinci allows Kaiser to re-enter the ring, where he punishes Gargano's knee and sends him shoulder-first into the ring post, finishing with a back-dropping kick to Gargano's spine. ##
Following a commercial break, Kaiser applies a Million Dollar Dream on Gargano, who counters with punches, a headbutt, and a flurry of forearms. After some back-and-forth, Gargano executes a sunset flip powerbomb but is interrupted by Vinci. Gargano takes care of Vinci and re-enters the ring, but Kaiser lands a round kick and a DDT for the three-count victory. ##

Becky Lynch is approached by Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae backstage, asking for a title shot for the woman who never lost the title. Becky agrees to consider it and discuss it with Adam Pearce.##
Rhea Ripley briefly appears, and after a commercial break, Drew McIntyre talks to Sami Zayn. Drew praises Sami's leadership during the Bloodline situation, and Sami mentions forgiving Jey Uso, which surprises Drew. Sami advises Drew to move past the Bloodline drama and challenges him to a match next week, which Drew accepts. ##
Rhea Ripley declares her dominance in the women's division. ##
Non-Title Match: Rhea Ripley vs. Shayna Baszler ##
They start with a lock-up, Shayna targets Rhea's arm, and Rhea counters a few times. Rhea hits a facebuster, and they trade punches. Shayna manages a knee strike and a German suplex for a near fall.##
Shayna attempts a submission, but Rhea breaks free with a roll-up and a one-arm powerbomb. Nia Jax and Raquel Rodriguez get involved, leading to a disqualification. Zoey Stark attacks Rhea, and the match ends. ##
WINNER: Shayna Baszler by DQ. ##
After the match, Rhea throws Zoey onto Shayna and confronts Nia. Nia misses a clothesline, and Zoey hits a superkick while Rhea delivers a headbutt. Rhea attempts to slam Nia, but Zoey dropkicks Nia, sending her onto Rhea before sending Nia to the floor. ##
Becky is in Adam's office, where he announces the NXT Women's Title Match for next week against Indi Hartwell. Xia Li insists it should be Tegan instead, but Jade Cargill enters and Becky asks her to wait her turn before she leaves, and Jade finds it amusing. ##
WWE Intercontinental Championship: Gunther vs. Bronson Reed ##
They lock up, and Reed backs Gunther into the corner. Gunther breaks free and applies a side headlock, following it with a shoulder tackle. Reed remains standing after Gunther's attempt at a shoulder tackle. Gunther uses a forearm to back Reed into the corner and delivers a series of chops, but Reed somehow stays on his feet. Another chop from Gunther follows. Reed answers with a running body block and a corner splash, causing Gunther to roll to the floor. Reed pursues him and attempts a move off the apron, but Gunther counters with a chop. ##
After a commercial break, Gunther and Reed trade chops and forearms. Reed surprises Gunther with a superkick and a slam for a near fall. Reed goes for a back senton, but Gunther gets his knees up to block it. Gunther follows up with a clothesline for another near fall. Gunther sets up for a powerbomb and successfully executes it for the three-count victory. ##
WINNER: Gunther ##
Miz questions the late timing of his appearance, suggesting that Raw should start with a star like him, not a "Sami Zayn pity party." He mocks Sami's history with Kevin Owens and calls for Adam's removal, possibly advocating for Nick Aldis to oversee both shows. ##
Nia Jax interrupts, asserting her dominance and her unreleased potential. She claims she's the one doing the squashing on Raw. ##
Rhea Ripley challenges Adam Pearce to keep her division under control. ##
Adam books a five-way match for Rhea's title involving Shayna, Nia, Zoey, and Raquel. ##

WWE Men's Tag Team Championship: Damian Priest and Finn Balor vs. Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso ##
Cody and Finn kick things off. Finn applies a wrist lock, but Cody counters with a back-breaking drop-down. Jey tags in and Damian Priest knocks Jey to the floor. Inside the ring, Cody and Finn tag in, with Cody landing a Pedigree but both are down.##
Finn regains control with a sling blade, and Priest delivers a low blow to Cody before being sent into the crowd. Jey almost pins Finn with a rollup. Finn then hits Coup de Grace for the win. ##
