'Animal' Takes Number One Weekend Opening In The World, Beating Hollywood Biggies
Mumbai, December 4 - It was a blockbuster weekend for Bollywood in the form of Ranbir Kapoor-led Animal which took the number one opening in the world during the weekend of December 1-3. It has become the 4th Indian and 2nd Bollywood movie to top the box office chart in the world.
Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal grossed an astonishing approximately 356 crores ($42.25 million) worldwide in its 3-day opening weekend, beating Hollywood biggies like "Napoleon" which collected $35.7 million worldwide for number 2, followed by "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" at number 3.
"Animal" scored solid approx. 240 crores gross in India and approx. 116 crores overseas in its launch weekend. It scored the second biggest weekend at the domestic box office ever, behind only Shah Rukh Khan's "Jawan".
As said above, "Animal" is the second Bollywood movie to top the global chart, after "Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva" which also starred Ranbir Kapoor in the title role alongside Alia Bhatt. Among the Indian films, SS Rajamouli's "RRR" and Thalapathy Vijay's "Master" claimed the top spot in the world at the global box office.
