Box Office: Avatar 2 Opening Day Early Estimates (India)
Mumbai, December 16 - One of the biggest and most anticipated Hollywood biggies, James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water heads for a huge opening day at the Indian box office.
The sci-fi epic, the sequel to Cameron's "Avatar" (2009), opened to very good occupancies across the country with Telugu states leading the charge. The premium formats were the best performers on opening day as the movie scored an estimated 38 crores net in all languages.
The English version, led by 3D and IMAX formats, was the top contributor with an estimated 18-20 crores net, followed by Hindi with a 9-10 crores net collection. The South Indian languages, including Telugu and Tamil, scored an estimated 8-10 crores.
Although the opening of over 40 crores (still possible and higher) would have been great given the huge hype, the openings in all versions are still excellent. The advances for the rest of the weekend are very good and the opening weekend is looking to reach 100-115 crores net.
The opening of "Avatar 2" is the second biggest ever for a Hollywood movie in India after "Avengers: Endgame", which scored a mighty 53.60 crores net in 2019. Going by the estimates, the latest Disney tentpole easily beats "Spider-Man: No Way Home", which scored approx. 32.50 crores net in December last year.
