Box Office: Blockbuster 'Jailer' Becomes The Highest-Grossing Tamil Movie of 2023

Chennai, August 15 - Superstar Rajinikanth's action drama Jailer is in beast mode at the box office, and in just 6 days, it has become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of the year. The Nelson Dilipkumar's directorial has surpassed the lifetime biz of Ponniyin Selva - 2 to emerge the number 1 Kollywood grosser of 2023.

Produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer grossed approximately 392 crores at the worldwide box office in the first 6 days and it crossed PS-2. The Mani Ratnam-directed PS-2 grossed approximately 344.50 crores in its full run earlier this year and this record is now shattered.



Jailer, on its 5th day, also crossed 200 crores domestically. Overseas, the movie has performed exceptionally well, minting around 145 crores in the first six days. The movie has crossed 400 crores at the worldwide box office on its 7th day.

By crossing PS-2, the Rajini-led blockbuster has become the 4th highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time, and at the end of the extended first week or by the second Friday, it will reach 3rd spot by surpassing Kamal Haasan's last year's blockbuster Vikram which grossed around 415 crores worldwide.
