Box Office: Dune 2 Storms Past $500 Million Worldwide
Los Angeles, March 19 - Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures' sci-fi epic Dune: Part 2 has stormed past $500 million at the worldwide box office, surpassing the entire run of its predecessor which grossed $433 million, within three weeks.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the blockbuster has so far grossed $210+ million (1740 crores) in North America and $290+ million (2410 crores) internationally for $500+ million (4150 crores) worldwide through the third Monday. It is currently the highest-grossing film of 2024 at the domestic and worldwide box office.
Domestically, the movie is having similar legs to that of Christopher Nolan's mega-hit Oppenhermier which grossed $329 million. Outside North America, China is the biggest market for Dune 2 with $36 million, followed by the UK with $33 million, Germany with $25 million, France with $25 million, and Australia with $16 million.
India, the movie has had a decent response so far with a gross collection of close to 30 crores ($3.60 million in 18 days. It is currently the highest-grossing Hollywood movie of 2024 at the Indian box office. The glowing word of mouth hasn't translated into big numbers in India, however, the movie is going great guns in most of the other markets.
Made on a budget of around $185 million, Dune 2 needed around $500 million to break even and it did that within just three weeks.
