Box Office: Dune Franchise Crosses $1 Billion Worldwide Gross
Los Angeles, March 26 - Director Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic Dune film series has crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The second of a two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel Dune by Frank Herbert is currently playing in theatres, nearing $600 million globally.
The first film was released in 2021 and grossed $435 million worldwide, including $109 million domestically (North America) despite opening day and date on HBO Max. The highly-anticipated sequel hit big screens on March 1st this year and stormed the box office.
Starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, Dune 2 scored the biggest opening of 2024 and currently stands at $575 million worldwide, including $233 million domestically. Combined with the first film, the total worldwide gross of the franchise is around $1.01 billion (8425 crores).
Out of the $1 billion worldwide gross collection of the franchise, the domestic box office has generated $342 million while the international gross is $667+ million so far. Dune 2 is projected to finish its box office run between $700 million and $720 million globally.
