Box Office: Dune Part 1 Re-Release Scores Big Worldwide
Mumbai, February 20 - Warner Bros. Pictures' sci-fi epic Dune: Part 1 re-release has made an impressive punch at the global box office in a smart move by the studio to create further buzz for its hugely-awaited sequel's release on March 1st.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune Part 1, which was originally released in 2021, recently returned to cinemas worldwide and in just a week, the movie has grossed an impressive $30 million (250 crores) at the worldwide box office.
The movie grossed $403.5 million in its original run in 2021 and with a re-release gross collection of $30 million, its cumulative global haul is now $433.7 million of which, around $109 million has come from the domestic (North America) market and remaining $325 million from international markets.
Dune 2 is among the hottest upcoming Hollywood movies and the super response to its predecessor has further boosted its box office prospects from its current $65+ million opening weekend projection in North America. The initial critics' reception also projects highly promising signs.
The two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel Dune by Frank Herbert, the movie follows Paul Atreides as he unites with the Fremen people of the desert planet Arrakis to wage war against House Harkonnen. It stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh, among others.
