Box Office: R Madhavan's 'Rocketry' Becomes A Success Story In Hindi
Mumbai, July 31 - Actor and filmmaker R Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, based on the life of former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, has been a silent success story at the box office in Hindi. It has been one of the films which went unnoticed in media headlines but found appreciation among its target audiences.
When the movie was released on July 1st, it had a huge task in hand to deliver at the box office. The opening of the film in Hindi was approx. 95 lakh, and at that time, it looked like the film will also meet the other box office failures. However, with strong positive audiences' word of mouth and constant push by Madhavan through social media, the film started getting recognition and carried a consistent run at the box office on a lower level.
The film managed to touch the hearts of the audience who respect the film as their own, which clearly reflected at the box office. The film has been 30 days since the movie was released in theaters and still running on a good number of screens. From the opening of 95 lakh, it has managed to collect more than 23 times till now for approx. 22.10 crores net (4 weeks), which is indeed a very big achievement.
"Rocketry" is available on Voot but still getting footfalls in theaters. The movie has at least 10 more days before the big guns - Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha on August 11. The lifetime collection of this inspiring biographical drama is looking to finish around 24 crores net, which is a good result for the makers. Overall, "Rocketry" has scored over 45 crores gross at the worldwide box office.
The film is based on the life of Nambi Narayanan, played by Madhavan, a scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation, who was accused in the ISRO espionage case and later exonerated. The story spans across Narayanan's days as a graduate student at Princeton University, before exploring his work as a scientist and the false espionage charges placed upon him.
Produced by Tricolour Films, Varghese Moolan Pictures, and 27th Entertainment, the movie also stars Simran, and Rajit Kapur while Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya feature in cameo roles.
