Los Angeles, December 19 - Marvel/Sony's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" has shattered box office records. The biggest box office hope of the covid-19 pandemic era, "No Way Home" debuted in 61 markets across the globe, including North America over the weekend, and grossed an earthshattering $600.8 million, without China.

At the domestic box office (North America), the Tom Holland-fronted closed the opening weekend to a gargantuan $260 million, above from Sunday estimated $253M - securing the second-biggest domestic opening of all-time at the box office, behind only "Avengers: Endgame" ($357.1M). At overseas, "No Way Home" grossed a huge $340.8 million.

"This weekend's historic results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve", says Sony Motion Picture Group chair-CEO Tom Rothman, who has remained a huge proponent of an exclusive theatrical release (via THR).

Among the top contributors to "No Way Home" apart from North America" - the United Kingdom proved itself the leader of the international market with $41.4M, followed by Mexico with $32.4M over 5 days each. The most satisfying box office outcome for "No Way Home" came through India, which contributed an estimated $18.2 million over 4 days (Thu-Sun). The movie particularly brings joy to Indian theaters.

"No Way Home" is also the first film in the COVID-19 era to zoom past $100 million in its domestic launch. There's more: The tentpole has already grossed more than any pandemic-era release has earned in its entire run domestically, a list topped by Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" ($224.5 million).

Directed by Jon Watts, the 3rd MCU Spider-Man flick stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire in prominent roles.
