Box Office: Top Gun Maverick Tops All But Avatar In The 4th Weekend
Los Angeles, June 19 - Tom Cruise's Top Gun Maverick is putting up a very special show at the domestic (North America) box office. The Paramount Pictures/Skydance flick scored the second biggest 4th weekend in North America, behind only James Cameron's "Avatar".
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, "Top Gun 2" came above estimates in the 4th weekend for $44 million, pushing the total North America box office collection to $466 million. The 4th-weekend cume is behind only "Avatar" which grossed $50 million in January 2010.
The weekend-to-weekend hold of the Top Gun sequel is remarkable as the movie dropped a ridiculously low 15% in the 4th weekend. It beats a Marvel and Star Wars movie to claim the second biggest 4th weekend, which is extraordinary, isn't it?
Meanwhile, the movie has reached $885 million worldwide box office and might top the $1 billion mark in the 6th weekend. It will be (look inevitable) the first billion-grosser title of Tom Cruise's career, and this at the age of 59.
