Box Office: Vijay Sethupathi's 'Maharaja' Tops 100 Crore Gross Worldwide
Chennai, July 2 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has become the first Tamil movie of 2024 to top 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office. It has surpassed horror-comedy, Aranmanai 4 which fell a little short of the 100 crores mark at an estimated around 99 crores.
Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, Maharaja cleared the 100 crores worldwide gross in its third weekend in which it grossed approximately 4.50 crores, despite Kalki 2898 AD having a strong debut in Tamil Nadu with over 20 crores gross.
After 17 days, the total domestic collection of Maharaja is an estimated 76+ crores gross while the overseas total is around 24 crores, for 100+ crores worldwide cume. The movie is expected to finish its box office run around 105 crores worldwide.
The Tamil film industry has struggled in the first half of 2024 with a couple of box office hits which also include Aranmanai 4 and Garudan along with Thalapathy Vijay's re-released Ghilli in the last few weeks. However, the second half of the year is looking highly promising with multiple potential blockbusters featuring some of the biggest stars.
