Disney's 'Elemental' Draws Impressive Viewership On Disney Plus After Box Office Rebound
Los Angeles, September 19 - Disney and Pixar's computer-animated romantic comedy-drama film Elemental, which witnessed a box office rebound earlier this year, has made an impressive post-theatrical streaming debut on Disney Plus.
According to Variety, the movie, directed by Peter Sohn, took a strong start on Disney+ with 26.4 million views in its first five days. This makes "Elemental" the most-watched movie premiere of the year on the streamer and among the top 10 movie premieres Disney has ever had.
Disney defines a view as total stream time divided by runtime, which means "Elemental" scored approximately 2.87 billion viewing minutes in its first five days of availability on Disney+. It has also become the most-viewed animated movie premiere since Disney and Pixar's "Turning Red" was released in March 2022.
Earlier, "Elemental" witnessed a box office rebound after the low opening at the domestic (North America) as well as the worldwide box office. Released in June, the movie scored $29.5 million domestically and $44.5 million globally, by far the worst opening weekend in Pixar's 28-year history.
The movie was written off as a flop after the low opening, but it somehow managed to rebound at the box office. As things stand today, "Elemental" has grossed an impressive $154.3 million domestically and $332.4 million overseas for $486.7 million worldwide cume, per Box Office Mojo.
