Mumbai, May 22 - Warner Bros. Pictures' much-anticipated post-apocalyptic action adventure film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is hitting theatres on May 23 and it will be looking to bring in some joy at the box office, not just domestically but also worldwide.
The Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth-starrer is both a reboot of the Mad Max franchise and a prequel. According to Deadline, Furiosa is tracking to earn $80 million - $85 million in its worldwide opening weekend, starting on Wednesday (May 22).
As reported previously is projected to earn $40+ million in its 4-day domestic (North America) opening weekend while overseas, it is tracking $40 million - $45 million. The movie is carrying a budget of $160 million and is certified fresh at Rotten Tomatoes with an 85% critics' score.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), starring Charlize Theron, opened at $45.4 million domestically so the projection of Furiosa is very much on the lines of the original movie.
In India, Furiosa is expected to have a much better outcome than the original movie which grossed approximately 15 crores in its lifetime run. In recent times, Hollywood movies have done well in India and with Chris Hemsworth, who has a genuine fan following among the Indian audiences, Furiosa could start well.
